My Story
by XJW4EVR ini was adopted into a jw family in southern california.
my birth mother gave me up after 6 months (the terms mom & dad refer to my adoptive/real parents).
she gave me up due to the fact that she already had a three year old boy, and back in the late sixties it was not as socially acceptable to be a single mother.

Hey ryry_
Welcome, so glad to have you. Everyone else has said it best...spend some time here, it's very cathartic!
What has helped me deal with being a "leper" is to jump into, with both feet, things that I never would have been able to do as a dub. And no, I'm not talking about becoming a crack whore or serial killer (though isn't that what many believe will happen to you if you abandon the borg ). There is a bunch of us here who are going to college. At our age, there is no better time spent, investing in ourselves! Also, reconnecting with old friends from school or workmates that you lost touch with, because they were so-called unacceptable associates. Some of those folks (after graciously accepting my apology for not staying in touch) have become true and wonderful friends.
Listen and learn to the old souls on this board, inluding Auld Soul, Blondie, Willylohman, and all the other wonderful spiritual giants who offer us newbies great support! Best of Luck to you!

Dear Nevada girl~
Embrace growing up with the ability to communicate above and beyond the skill of most seven year olds! Embrace that your father was very wise and was genuine in his efforts to raise you within the "safety" of the witnesses. Also embrace the wise decision that you made for yoursef, despite obstacles to stand for what you believe, to educate yourself, to satisfy the "spiritual need" you have created for yourself.
I read this forum for years prior to posting. It was very hard to hear of the witnesses as a cult. In time, you will come to your own conclusions on that matter. You are a wise young women who has come to appreciate what genuinley works and doesn't work for you. Keep listening to that little voice. Toss off the guilt (it never does us any good) and be proud of the journey that you are on. I was raised a dub too, gained a lot, lost a lot to leave, and have never regretted my decision, because it's sits comfortably with me to have left what wasn't working. Guilt, regret, fear...does us no good. Move on! Life just gets better and better! Good luck, little wolfpack! You'll love Reno!

What Things Irritated You While A Witness?
by minimus ini used to hate it when i'd listen to brother blow give his long winded comment about how we're all supposed to do this or that----and he was barely considered a witness......we had a few elders, and especially the po who would go overtime just because they could.
the po's bookstudy always went overtime.
45 minutes into the meeting he was still on paragraph 3. and he would read every scripture including the ones quoted!!!

I agree with fullofdoubt...nothing was more irritating than my bookstudy "overseer" ragging about the Catholic church and how devious and polluted they were. It must have been a deeply personal issue for him for some reason, because he managed to weave it into study. Even if the study was about brotherly love or from the Daniel book ( which was my personal torment!), this guy would not hesitate to bash the Catholics!
My other enormous peeve was how the funeral talk of a dearly departed always sounded like a public relations commercial. The PO in our hall gave most of them, and in a sing songy voice, he touted the "truth" as being the source of refreshment for the deceased, and encouraged all those not associated to ask questions. All I could think was, "My mother (brother, uncle...) died and this jack ass is giving his door-to-door shpeel to a captive audience!" I'll bet the "worldly" relatives were less than amused! Made me sad. Couldn't dwell on their positive qualities, or comfort the bereaved, always had to be the song and dance...

April 15, WT: Education, personal fulfillment leads to spiritual death
by truthseeker inthe 2nd study article, "let your hands be strong", is very pointed to say the least.
it seems that many dubs are finding personal fulfillment outside the kingdom hall, and this is clearly a sin leading to spiritual death.. i leave blondie to do the full review, just some interesting comments... .
pg 27, paragraph 11 .

Hey Becka~ We library geeks have to stick together! The only reason the gpa is high is that i have no social life (unless you count my puppy, which you cannot). I went from being the social butterfly ( you know, holds all the showers and parties, organizes the meals...) to being a social pariah. Which is quite a lovely change. I'm definitely working on meeting new people. Especially now that I know longer feel the need to be a judgmental creep, it's certainly an easier process! Thanks again for the encouragment!

Hi everyone- Newbie here, but have been reading this board for years! Also attending University, after having left an abusive husband and a very controlling hall. My entire family (all now former dubs, after being heavily entrenched for many, many years, yeah us!) is so supportive of the changes I've made. You all have been so amazing and insightful, i would never have made this journey without all of you....
Love these articles on higher education. Raised a dub, i never would have entertained heading to college (my high school transcripts are appalling, to say the least!) but now i'm 3rd year 4.0 library geek, and so happy. The articles are right. Higher education is terrible for a dub. It forces you to think rationally and critically, and for yourself, it offers you insight into the pyschology of manipulating entities (not that we would have any exposure to that ) and it opens up an entire new world. If your not interested in these "dead works", run for the hills and don't even think of enrolling!
