Case 1.If I'm totally against the seal fur trade and cosmetic testing on
animals but wear leather and accept drugs for ill health am I a
hypocrite?
Case 2.If I was just against seal fur trade but not worried about testing on
animals does that make me less contradictory hence less hypocritical
than case 1?
Case 3. If I'm vehemently against animal testing and the fur trade and never
knowingly use these kinds of products but never get off my ar*se to
do anything about animal cruelty am I still a hypocrite?

We're all hypocrites!
by free2beme ini firmly believe that if you talk to someone long enough and know someone long enough, you will learn they are a hypocrite.
i don't think anyone can remain on one theme in their life forever and stick with it, as life is just to much about change to allow this and the human experience is about learning and changing.
when i see people quote others and yell the inevitable "hypocrite" comment in their direction.

Why did Jesus have to die?
by ghostbuster ini disassociated myself from jws about 20 years ago so i'm a bit rusty on christian teaching.
the intersting thing though is i hadn't completely disassociated my mind from their teachings and it's only been recently that i've had true independent thought.
it's scary if you think about it.

Rex,
I couldn't understand if you accept that Jesus had to die or like me, see it as unnecessary hocus pocus.
The premise that someone perfect had to carry sin on his shoulders, be the ransom, the lamb and so on is steeped in jewish mysticism. -

WTBTS's Use of "Illustrations"
by Tashawaa inremember "illustrations"... the wtbts uses them to drive-home their points.
for example, i can't get the illustration of "good parents who allow their child to undergo a painful operation for its own good" (with picture of parents heartbroken, and crying, reaching child being wheeled into operating room).
this was suppose to help us "understand" why god allows the suffering today - for our future wellbeing.. well, what if the parents had the power to heal the child without surgery.

I remember the one about the parents putting their child through surgery for it's long term well being and like you I often thought this analogy just doesn't wash but still I overlooked it's flaw.
How about the child or was it sheep sitting next to a lion.
I find it odd when they put good looking women with white gleaming teeth on the front cover of their magazines. It's obviously for sales purposes. -

Do Jehovah's Witnesses need Jesus as their Savior?
by Honesty ini have been thinking a lot about how the wtbts downplays jesus in their publications, public talks and general conversation.
i believe they have been conditioned by the organisation to disregard his role in their salvation due, in part to the twisting of the following scripture: romans 6:7 for he who has died has been acquitted from [his] sin.. according to current wt doctrine, if a jw dies faithful to the wtbts before armageddon he/she will have a free ticket into paradise so they really don't need jesus before they die.
also, the wt claims that the jw's can pass unscathed through the destruction of 99.9% of the world's population at armageddon as long as he/she remains loyal to the whims of the watchtower and its ever changing doctrines.

So basically you don't have to belong to any church to be saved but you must be baptised. But to be baptised you must belong to a church.
It's a strange notion that you can only be saved through an money spinning organisation.
It has just occured to me that baptism is just a symbolic action like taking an oath. It seems a very human minded method to get members to your cause.
When jesus did it the holy spirit supposedly came down on him. What about the rest of us? -

Esther as evil as Haman.
by ghostbuster inthis whole ot book - esther - is a contradiction in terms.
the whole situation is set up because the arrogant mordicia won't bow to haman, the second in command of the persia and mede empire.
however, prior to this mordicia offers his niece to the harem of king xerxes where she is likely to whore herself for the chance of becoming queen.

Satanus,
If Haman was a traditional enemy to Mordicia then where does that leave Xerxes who signed the edict to massacre all the jews. Mordicia he later worked for him as Xerxes number two man. It's hypocritical to the core.
Digression.
I've uploaded my jpg logo but it is not visible any hints. -

This whole OT book - Esther - is a contradiction in terms.
The whole situation is set up because the arrogant Mordicia won't bow to Haman, the second in command of the Persia and Mede Empire. However, prior to this Mordicia offers his niece to the harem of King Xerxes where she is likely to whore herself for the chance of becoming queen.
The results of this is that Haman decideds to kill all the jews within the Persian Empire but the tables turn on him and he is executed himself as are thousands of others.
If he would not bow to Haman why would he want his niece married to a pagan? This is hypocritical and goes against the grain of everything the OT teaches regarding garding oneself from heathens.
Esther had unjustly summoned the execution of Haman's ten sons. This is typical OT butchery of innocents. This makes Esther as evil a Haman. She was obviously expecting pay back so nipped it in the bud by doing away with the sons.
Justice in the OT is very arbitrary and therefore cannot come from a just God -

JESUS B-day
by I-CH-TH-U-S indec 25?.
oct 1?.
i have even heard some recent speculation on jesus possibly being born in march which is interesting.. october seems reasonable with the rational of "shepherds watched their flocks by night" and in the december months it would be too cold for them to be out?

Jeffro,
"That doesn't actually make sense. "Christ" means "Messiah""
Ok, I meant Christ as in Jesus the man
I believe that Jesus was a real man well versed in the scripture. He calculated that the Messiah was about due according to the scripture and cleverly appointed himself that role.
You'ed have to be bloody good to pull it off though. And he did, because we are talking about him today. -

Nate Merit,
you hit the nail on the head,
My sentiments exactly. Bloodshed for more bloodshed. Sounds like the Gods of Olympus, rather than JW's perception of God ie loving, caring etc. I really believe the Greeks had the nature of God/s down to a tee.
It makes sense that this Jewish God was so bloodthirsty because the jews needed an excuse to kill off the canaanites and take their land over a bogus divine claim.
Like I said earlier, in this scheme the only person that needed dieing was Satan. End of story.
And another thing. God said to Adam he would die if he took fruit of the tree. How does that translate into everybody thereafter must die too? Even normal human justice isn't that depraved.

Is what we believe to be real.....really real?
by gumby inif your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink.
if you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green.
now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture.

Our mind tries to make sense of the environment it find's itself in. Who's to say the brain as a cognitive tool is doing a good job. It's an amazing tool but how good is it really at percepting reality. The idea of reality itself is the brains own creation. I think it's the case of heisenberg's uncertainty principle.
