Holidays

now that you have left the org., do you celebrate holidays?

if you do, does it feel wierd or is it liberating?

and also, how do you explain it to your kids?

I love the holidays, although I feel that christmas has a lot of pressure/commercialism in the build up to the "big day"

My children were born after I left the org, so they have always had these special celebrations. When they became old enough to understand that their grandparents and aunt/cousins, are never around at those times I explained that different churches have different ways of doing things, and those relatives don't celebrate Christmas. They do give them presents at other times of the year though.

My kids just accepted that as the way it is, without much questioning. It wasn't a big deal for them.

Don't drink much beer, prefer a "cardonnay"

but on a really hot day like a crown lager, (australian),

and last year after i walked up to the top of mount kosiusko (highest mountain in australia,) I sunk a guinness, and it tasted like nectar from the gods!

What's your favourite movie of all time?

we had a weekend away a couple of weeks ago.

i took a few classic dvd's along in case the weather turned sour.. so i watched ghost with demi moore, that pottery scene has to be one of my favourite ever..........gives me goosebumps!

but it's not my favourite movie of all time/ i'm embarrassed to admit it, but ok i will, cause i'm with friends!

So I watched ghost with Demi Moore, that pottery scene has to be one of my favourite ever..........gives me goosebumps! but it's not my favourite movie of all time/ I'm embarrassed to admit it, but ok I will, cause I'm with friends! my favourite movie of all time is............the sound of music. I've lost count of the number of times i've seen it. I was up to about fifteen times before it left the cinemas. now that it's replayed on tv and videos it's countless. i virtually know the whole movie script word for word. drives my family mad!! my favourite scene is the greenhouse scene...........I am 16 going on 17. On our honeymoon we had a stopover in Salsburg, Austria, and visited where that was filmed. I re-enacted that scene!! I know..........I'm a sop.!

anyway my husband's favourite movie is Alien (1979), favourite scene where the alien bursts out of John Hurt's belly. Yep, men are from mars.........women from venus!

my jw sil doesn't approve of me being on this site.

she has compared it to a black person having a friend that is a member of a anti-black community.

where else can you get so many varied opinions about a religion that i grew up in, would have died for, have family members that are members of, have questions about myself and find answers to some tough questions i have?

I am hurt, my wife had a miscarriage and still my family didn't contact me

two weeks ago my wife had a miscarriage at 11 weeks.

it is very sad as it was to be my first child and my wife is already 39. what hurt the most though is that none of my immediate family contacted me.

i was d/f in january and did not expect to hear regularly from my parents and sister.

Sorry you're hurting ((((Paul)))). I remember you said your mother told you that she would not shun you, has your wife told them how you are feeling? Maybe they feel that in speaking to her, they are actually speaking to you as well, not realising how they are hurting you.

Then again I do believe that when the witnesses shun, many actually believe it is out of love. That this tough love approach will bring their loved one to their senses. I know when my parents shunned me and my sisters for a couple of years they were hurting too, but felt that they had to do it

stay strong, and know that you are not alone in how you are feeling. Best wishes to you and your wife.

basic questions

i am not a member of your church nor am i seeking to become one.

i do have questions from time to time as to your basic beliefs and practices.

Hi Brian I was born and raised a witness for 21 years. My active JW sister and her husband did not attend my wedding in a church due to their witness convictions, (and due to the fact that other members of their congregation might think badly of them, or be stumbled), they did however come to the wedding reception after the church service. Some witness's would not even do that.

To not do so would be like asking an Evangelical Baptist to explain Mormoiism to me.

actually it would be like asking an ex-mormon to explain mormonism, completely free of the hangups that the relgion imposes.

true most posters here are ex-witnesses, although there are a number who still associate. those who have a full understanding of the religion.....and who have seen it's faults, inconsistencies and hypocricies.

our blinkers are off!

Do you feel old?

now, that i'm in my forties...heading toward fifty, fast; i feel old.

i feel like i've wasted a good part of my life with religious hang-ups!

i think that i would have done a lot of things differently had i not been raised the way i was.

((((DF)))), hope you're feeling better, and your batteries recharged when you're spending more time with your boy.

I sometimes feel old, "stop the world I want to get off", and first thing in the morning my knees and ankles feel old!

but usually I feel the same as I felt mid twenties. (only the reflection in the mirror has aged!) When I'm out doing something I love, like singing I feel ageless.

while lurking, fading, or like me, a disgruntled dud who wishes to remain anonymous, found out that a fellow poster was a relative, friend, or just someone you knew?

i found out about one when i first registered and eventually revealed myself because i trust this person.

i just found another one that i dont trust at all!
