Freedom
by sweet pea inwhat a rollercoaster the last couple of days has been.
having been prompted gently and lovingly by husband 'besty' i have examined my faith, sorry the organisation, and finally realised that he has been right all along in his reservations.
i feel all sorts of emotions, mainly happiness at finally feeling free - no more meetings (i never could see why we had to attend 3 a week and always felt stressed about taking the babies along when they should be in bed!

Welcome to Helen Rose, SweetPea and lovebug from waaay downunder!
"a seemingly innoccuous and uncontroversial subject ..." - SweetPea.
I think that somewhere there is a trigger for everyone to make them think about what they believe. It often isn't the UN fiasco or 607bce or the protection of molesters.
It must be something personal and with which a great deal of emotion is involved.
With my wife it was not so much WHAT i said about the various scandals but how she saw it AFFECTED me emotionally. That, perhaps, is the secret. -

"...individual JWs that knew that what they were teaching and advocating was false but continued to do so for personal gain." - blondie.
This is food for thought for those that know the 'truth about the truth' and continue a teaching/preaching role. -

How'd you pick your Avatar and/or Username? (Share a little bio?)
by Open mind ineven though you might think it's painfully obvious, explain why you chose your avatar and/or username.
it could help us faceless "netizens" get to know each other a little better.

I love rock music. Bigmouth relates to The Smiths 'Bigmouth Strikes Again'. My avatar used to be of The Smiths outside the Salford Lads Club in Manchester. I changed the image to the cover of NZ band The Bats 'Fear of God' album because I liked the image better.
I can be quite extrovert but I don't really think I have a big mouth. I'm pretty tactful. -

Why are people so afraid to question the authenticity of the Bible...
by zeroday infor thousands of years people have taken the bible as the word of god.
what would you do if you found out that it was not.
how would your outlook on the world change.. .

"..well-founded and solidly established theory of life on earth.."
Mme. Q, I think your statement above might be a contradiction in terms! ;)
On another thread I said that I felt that both belief and non belief required a measure of faith.
If God exists he is not the sort of person I would recommend imitating. But if I have to believe in purposeful creation or evolution I will have to plump for a creator.
I don't know how he got there, but I don't know where inorganic matter came from either.

Counting Time
by Xena ini don't know about anyone else but this could be the source of major contention between dubs in my halls.
you had those who started their time as soon as you pulled out of the hall parking lot (me), those who counted from the first knock at the door or laundry mat visited, and the die hards who didn't start until they actually spoke to someone(my sister).
my sister and i would go round and round about this, i finally just pretended to start my time when she did just to shut her up.

We use it here too. It rates 4th on the very naughty words list. We may have to have a mass debate about this.

I think both ends of the spectrum require a certain measure of faith.
I am inclined to believe that God exists but that he has little interest in his creation.
If, as a father, I behaved as he has done my childrens therapists would recommend that they never speak to me again. -
