One of the most irritating things you can say to a Witness?
by free2beme inmy relatives that are still witnesses, always hate it when i say one thing to them, more then any others ... .
"are you going to church tonight?
"were you at church?".
-
riverofdeceit
Call them a Jehovah. As in: "Are you a Jehovah?" Not in a mean way either. Just ignorantly. The church thing though, I remember saying "It isn't a church, it's a kingdom hall". Though I eventually dropped that cuz nobody knew wtf I was talking about. Neither did I, CUZ IT WAS A GODDAMN CHURCH!!!

OMG I'm one of Satan's spears...
by TresHappy inaccording to the 2 jw sisters at my door this morning.
i told them they were deceived and had bad taste in door-to-door fashion!

Because I'm sure their evil "satan" would still be using spears nowadays. I'd tell Satan to call back for help when he needs a missile.

My Story..... Need advice on reinstatement Letter.
by jrjr4189 ini've been a member of the site for a month, but have been reading the posts for a lot longer, however this is my first post.
i was raised a j-dub by my mother (my father wasn't religious) with my sister and brother.
i was pretty much convinced by my dub friends, bible study conductor, and mother that i should get baptized when i was 15 and decided to go for it.

I pulled it off too. I was df'd for three years. No attendance at meetings at all during that time. I wrote a long "heartfelt" letter confessing some of the "naughty" things I'd done and how I'd stopped doing them. It wasn't all true, but I had learned a lot in those three years. While it was true that I was a completely different person than I was before I'd been disfellowshipped, it had nothing to do with religion or the bible. I actually had only gone to five meetings before I got the call that I would be reinstated at the next meeting. I attended that and then never returned there, though I did go to half of a day at a convention. Getting reinstated doesn't solve all of the issues however. Even though your relatives will talk to you, you can't stop remembering how conditional it all is.
I think that if you've been gone for a while as opposed to getting disfellowshipped and immediately trying to get reinstated, the process is a lot quicker. My cousin (a brainwashed believer who never missed a meeting after his df'ing) took over a year of letters and constant attendance.

What's this crap about "awaiting Jesus return" in the title? I thought he came invisibly already, or some crap like that. I like how they say that "politics and nationalism cause divisions". So do JW's. Cults usually follow a human leader...[we follow a group of human leaders so we aren't a cult].

I am New and I Am Being Discriminated At Work For NOT BEING A Catholic
by Zelaira inand also catholics and lutherans who hate on jws are harrasssing because they are blindsided and i am sick of it .... why do witnesses have such hate poured on them by catholics and lutheran groups?
also, how do you deal with not celebrating holidays?
is it wrong to wear crosses or can it be a gothic thing that a witness can possibly understand?
-

Exactly what do you mean by being discriminated [against]? Are you even one of the Jehovah's Witnesses, because the questions you ask make it sound like you know nothing about them? And no, you cannot be a "free spirit" if you are a Jehovah's Witness (at least, you won't be one for long). Being a Jehovah's Witness has very little to do with love for "God" and is more about following the rules set by the Watchtower Society. As with most groups that claim they are Christian, homosexuality is condemned. Oh, they will try the line "love the sinner hate the sin" thing, but really, is it possible to love a gay person and hate their gayness? Not in my opinion.(sorry bout the gayness term there, but it helps make my point, sort of.)

I miss the "free" food.
by Justice-One infree food.
it used to make the conventions almost bearable.
i rememeber telling the wife and kids to not put anything in any contribution box, because as the head of the family, i had taken care of it.

Wow I must've been from a rich district because we had Ice Cream every day of the convention. Not the bigger one in Providence but the smaller one in Natick we had ice cream. They had soft serve. Actually now you mention it I do miss the hoagies and danishes. The older danishes though, I remember they switched to small packaged Sarah Lee ones later on, give me generic or give me death LOL. Didn't they have like roast beef sandwiches and chicken patties too? Oh to have another meal there back in the day, actually now it's the kind of food I turn my nose up at, since it's way off my diet course.
Yeah, I went to the Natick one too. The damn sundae line over on the left side of the cafeteria. I remember we never got there very early and had to sit toward the back which meant we got our food last. People would be getting ice-cream before I even had my damn chicken patty and chocolate milk(I hated shasta). A lot of times all the good food would be gone. Last time I went to Natick (after the no food arrangement), I dozed during the first half, went out to get lunch and just never came back.

Sometimes I'll be thinking about something I'm going to say in the future and I'll end up vocalizing it with someone else around...that's plenty embarrassing....
Yeah, I do that too. Usually it is when I am driving.

ANYONE THAT BELIEVES JW'S HAVE THE RIGHT RELIGION ARE........
by minimus inafter realizing how wrong they are either stupid, braindead, or in denial.
you agree????
?
-
riverofdeceit
...wrong. Just like anybody else who believes they have the right religion. (...In my opinion, so that I dont sound like an angry atheist which I may or may not be)About as right as anyone else who thinks they have the right religion. It's all in your head, you can make about as many religions as you want from the bible.
Pretty much said my thoughts but sounded a little nicer. If it makes you happy then it's right for you.
