And in typical JW fashion they take away but don't provide anything to replace what's now forbidden. It sucked growing up as a jw -- I feel for the kids that are currently stuck in that miserable hell hole. When I see parents marching their small children up and down my street while witnessing it's all I can do not to call family services on them.

SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS A BIG NO-NO
by Mary ini guess i shouldn't be surprised at this, but my dub sister told me this morning that at the meeting last night, they had a "local needs" about whether or not "christian" parents should enroll their kids in any summer camps, or recreational activities that colleges and universities offer each year.
the list of activities the kids can do are numerous and to me, they are an excellent source that could really help develop a child's talents, expose them to the wonders of science, art, engineering, etc., develop skills that would obviously be of benefit to them both now and in later life, and give them a chance to meet new friends from other schools in the area.
anyway, while not out and out forbidding it, these activities are being very much frowned upon.

I was never happy as a jw. My parents divorced and my elder dad became an apostate. Mom in turn became Super-Dub. I didn't fit in at the KH, had nothing in common with my jw peers -- wasn't allowed to develop non-jw friendships so didn't fit in that well at school. felt old for my years. Was shunned by jw's when out with my dad and then had to turn around the next day and be miss goody two shoes jw at the hall. sorry for the ramble...believe me I could go on....Short answer to your question: was never happy as a jw.

so whoop whoop for gambling.. i was in miami florida last week for the photoshop world conference, but i also got to tour the everglades, where i took some beautiful pictures.

I was incredulous and said, "what are you doing?" ---- she gave me this smirk and says, "don't worry, I'll pick it up in the new system." Anyone else encounter this kind of attitude on the part of jw's toward responsibility for the environment? Apparently, some don't feel any responsibility as everything will be taken care of in the "new system"!!

something about catching my bigger brother puffing on a cigarette lol.
i had to practice the part for months in a dogey american accents.

I was probably 9 and my pioneer mom and I did an interview in a part at the CA. I still remember that I wore a pink dress and was very nervous. I was asked what I did to help our family while my mother pioneered and I squeaked out something about folding laundry and getting along with my younger brother.
Speaking of parts at the CA -- best one I ever saw was a skit about some jw kids misbehaving at the local hotel that they were staying at during the DA. Apparently this was a local needs issue. Anyway, the kids in the part were completely convincing as hooligans and the audience roared as they pretended to cause mayhem at the hotel bringing bigtime reproach to jehovie's name. People were actually paying attention and GASP...laughing! The CO gets up after the skit and stands there just glaring at the audience and then ripped into everyone for laughing. Everyone was hanging their heads in shame.

Stepdaughter wants B-Day

their mom is a dub, her dad is an elder, my man is d'fd.
anyway, i was just sitting in my room feeding the baby when girl comes in and asks if im gonna start throwing her birthday parties.

I don't know that I have much wisdom to impart on this....the scenario brings up a lot of memories for me. My jw parents divorced when I was eleven and my brother was eight. Former elder-dad remarried a "wordly" person and mom married a jw. I was so conflicted growing up in that situation about birthdays, holidays, etc. Although your step-daughter may say that she wants a birthday party this will undoubtedly inflict feelings of guilt and confusion -- right now at age nine she's thinking about presents and a party but is she really prepared for the feelings of guilt when hiding this from her mother and grandfather and other jw's? If her belief system in jw teachings is strongly ingrained and all she knows she might feel worse for having a birthday party.
Ultimately, it's not about the adults but about the children and she's not really of age yet to deal with some of the push/pull that will occur as she grows up trying to please a jw parent and a non-jw parent. That is the sad part...her feelings and desires possibly will be lost between the two. The situation you describe is going to be a difficult one for years to come.
My father and step-mother had two other children and I grew up watching them celebrate holidays, christmas tree in their house, birthdays while I didn't participate.
Again, I don't know the answer to how to make this better but it's a pretty intense situation and while you don't want to encourage her to be a jw you probably also want to take it slowly and gently introduce her to other ideas about life.
Sorry for the ramble...your email reminded me of myself at a young age torn between two very different ideals and worlds. It's a lot for a young child to deal with.

ABSOLUTELY I will boycott this movie and anything else that Tom Cruise appears in or is part of -- not only for the Scientology/South Park issue but mainly for his comments about Brooke Shields and post partum depression. argh! My blood pressure is rising just typing this -- that's how much the man pisses me off!!

I interviewed a woman for a job a couple of years ago...during the interview I asked her the standard "what is your strength/weakness" question. In answer to "what do you consider to be your greatest weakness in the context of work" she replied: "well.....I'm not very smart." Needless to say she didn't get the job.

Would be interesting to delve into the WTS records of preaching and do some major analysis -- number of publications placed relative to the number of new bible studies or converts. Also, would be interesting to come up with a methodology that took into account all of the people falsifying the reports and then applying an adjustment to the overall numbers. And, of course, an annual audit of records to ensure legitimacy of numbers stated. Why sign up for a religion that requires you to be a salesperson when you can't even verify how effective the product is...this is one multi level marketing scheme that truly won't make you rich...spiritually or physically.
