THe Watchtower is losing members, and thinks that most of the members are lost due to fornication (i.e. a sin) (as opposed to pure apostacy). And, losing the people is causing harm to the Watchtower's pocketbook. So, rather then outcast the members (and their wallets), get rid of disfellowshipping and consider them still "in." This helps with the overall count of Jehovah's Witness and attrition rate amongst the youth (probably more likely to commit fornication and internet browsing to find apostate information).
What's mind boggeling is that this is what the Catholics and other "False Religions" do, isn't it? Keep the sinners in the group! How many times have I heard JWs proudly say, "We treat sin very seriously. We live by Bible standards very clearly. We disfellowship those who sin. We don't allow them to go on inside the congregation without repurcussions. We're not like the Catholics and othef "False Religions. Faith without works is dead." . . . .
Now, how many families have been torn apart? Years missed of relationships? All because of the shunning policy? Now, it's suddenly reversed. And the JWs "should be" thankful.
Rememer, Brazil is where those billboards were that exposed Watchtower shunning and breaking apart of families.

Why you love America
by jamesmahon init struck me, as i guess it has a lot of people, that there are so many threads from both americans and the rest of us that seem to descend into america bashing.
i thought it might be quite nice to have a thread solely (and i mean solely - if this just turns negative i will call foul) on what we think is great about america.
as a brit who has lived and been over a number of times there are many parts about america that i think are great and thought is would be healthy to have a positive thread for a change.. so a starter for ten (with a few gross generalisations thrown in):.

No Almighty King or Queen, the right to vote out the current politicians, and the right to say/do almost anything you want.
Whale Wars. Yes, Whale Wars says alot about Americans (and others too). Brave, brash, and standing up for injustice. That's what I love.
Oh, and Sam Adams Lager. That's what I love about America.

Anyone in Miami?
by sseveninches inwhere you're an ex-jw or still a jw, if you live in miami, florida (broward/palm beach county is cool too), i want to hear your story.
i've already given mine, but i'll tell it again just for the purpose of this thread.. i was researching masturbation because of the fact that the wt makes it out to be such a bad thing despite admitting that it isn't even mentioned in the bible.
along with that, i was researching "porneia" in general, and then i discovered this site.

Who On This Site Would You Like To Meet?
by minimus inthere are a lot of interesting people that frequent this site.. sometimes, we get an idea of what the posters are really like in "real life".
and i'm sure i could be easily surprised by some that you think might be strong personalities because of their board presence, and in reality, they might be shy in a face to face setting.. i would enjoy meeting simon.
simon used to be terribly annoyed by my posting and now i think he's accepted with tolerance my being here.. farkel seems like a grouchy cantankerous fellow but i think he'd be very interesting company!.

Brazil was the sight for the shunning billboards. I think it ciould be something to do with shunning. But, I think that MOST jws would welcome a change from the "no shunning" rule. I don't see that as a negative change that could cause a backlash. Sort of like when they allowed college - everyone applauded it.
So, what "change" could cause people to falter or stumble? A change in the year of prediction could do it. 1975, Generation of 1914, etc. But, those who are left have gone through alot of these "date" changes and bought the Society's "blame the flock" gambit.
So, what "chane" could cause people to falter? Could it be blood?
Gayle, tithing is brilliant! You may be onto something. "We gave you family study night, now in return give us 10%"
