Just then, Jehova exclaimed, in a LOUD authoritarian voice...
"These are NOT my witnesses, and I am NOT pleased!! Now kindly give these people their minds and lives back!!!!"

Let's write a short [or long] story....
by AK - Jeff inone line at a time.
no vulgarity please - take the story wherever you want to.. .
jane was a brilliant spokeswoman for the council, and as she prepared to step to the podium a surprising flash of light caught her left eye.

What she thought was Jehovah was simply a gleam from a passing car window. "oh well," she said to the members in the room,"a girl can dream can't she?"

One can still find freedom and happiness without following a deity's commands. After all, you still have to adhere to a set of rules that govern over the belief system. They constantly talk of freedom, but there are always religious dues that one has to pay in the long run, IE: "don't do this, don't do that, abstain from this/that," etc.You have to please a deity before you please yourself. You constantly have to please the deity no matter how victimized to you may feel. But, like I said before, we were always free from the get go,and it's never the case that we are not. It's what we do with this freedom that determines our circumstances and therefore our happiness.
Our happiness is our choice, not some deity's. -

But even if there was a greater purpose, say, eternal life, who says we have to blindly adhere to it? What if I just don't feel like pursuing eternal life? I don't want to live forever, it's my choice, and that's that. Even if there was an actual "igher" purpose, who's to say that we necessarily have to pursue it? You can lead a horse to water.....

I see. So you're not even in that league of true, hardcore nihilism. Forgive my errors.I guess you can say you exhibit a great deal of apathy. But then again, Zen Buddhists do so as well, or at least as a sort of "healthy" apathy.

Leaving JWs Has Made Me Intolerant of Stupid Thinking - How About U?

i am almost always a very tolerant, easygoing person, but there is this one aspect of my personality that has caused us a certain amount of tension.

Well, at least you weighed the two options, and you've made up your mind. You say "tom-ay-to" and i say to-mah-to" that's all.Have a good one.

I was using it in the context that tetrapod was using it in. The attempt to negate or annihilate everything.

Nate,thanks for the welcome
Sorry, but young is a relative term ot me. I'm 35, but to me old is say 90,100 years old. But what does age have to do with freewill?
If it takes you "back", you've just proved my point. You've chosen to disattach yourself from the "idealism" of your past.If you really planned to adhere to it, then what's stopping you from going back and affirming it now? it's certainly not me. It's actually you and your freedom. You made the decision to disconnect from it, but you still used freewill. It's inescapable.
And what is it exactly that I "don't know"? That one has to give up their "idealism?" (I call it realism myself) but that, again, is more like a decision, not so much knowledge. Getting odler doesn't necessarlity entail "getting real" or "settling down." There's rock stars bodering on 60 that are still touring. There's even eldery porn actors. Certain people don't always adhere to another's quality, becasue otherwise we'd all move around like a school of fish.
In Existential excitement from motion,
"Freedom is another word for human REALITY."
Nihislism is not the philisophical boogeyman, becasue it's an obvious delusion since s/he makes something out of "nothing." Read my posts above

Sillines, indeed...
Not trying to convince anybody,as there's plenty of that going in here, but it's merely something to think about. You may want to weigh both decisions before latching on to a belief.Give some room for error, or at least incompleteness...
