holiday cheer/hypocrisy/dilemma

ok, how is everyone handling the upcoming holidays?

i was raised a jw so never celebrated at all.

over the years as a married but no kids couple, i have just done whatever my hubby wanted which usually consists of just having dinner at his parents' house.

The first time I put decorations on a christmas I tree I ran to the bathroom and barffed!! That is how screwed up the ORG left me.My girlfriend who is my Wife now had to show me how to properly apply Christmas tree decorations while I loudly sobed like a 4 year old!!

This is officialy my 5th Christmas and I still get very emotional, but the emotion I feel is Joy. When I see the smiles on my kids faces when the first see the tree and the presents under it, I savor every second of it.Can I relive the past? You bet your ass I can, My family makes a point to make it extra special for me, when I come down the stairs on Christmas morning they all say"merry Christmas Daddy.Damn I'm sobing now!! Sorry. Anyway my point is this, its not about the money or getting the perfect gift, its all about family and how you make each other feel!! I don't think God has any objections to that?

Nowhere else to go

there is really nowhere else for me to post about what goes on inside me.

i know that my problems aren't all because i was a witness.

the agony in my mind has led me to a psychiatrist.. he has diagnosed me with cyclothymic mood disorder, a milder form.

I hate to get personal in this forum, but everything you have dicribed in your post sounds very familiar? I have a brother named Joel that I have not seen or heard from in over 25 years. The last thing I heard was he had alot in common with what you listed in your origional post. He also was a JW for 20 years or so. Once again I am sorry if I'm making you uncomfortable! Your bio doesn't say much about you.Could you please at least tell me if you have a brother that you have not spoken to in 25 years, just yes or no please?

I got a visit this morning

for the first time in 4 or 5 years i got a visit by the jws this morning.

i wasnt prepared at all and so handled it not so well.

bear in mind the leaflet on display just made me feel physically ill.. the woman asked if i was interested in finding out god's purpose for the future.

My cruel plan when JW's or Mormons come to my door is as fallows. I pretend my 80lb german shepard chow mix dog is going to eat them if they don't promptly get the heck of my portch.I tug on his leash as he barks feverishly and lunges forward acting like his leash will snap at any moment.Man it is funny to watch their faces, they are in complete horror.It works on salesman too! The truth is my dog would probably lick them to death.

To Rebel or not to Rebel? that is the question!

i am truly looking for your honesty on this issue...not that i think any of you have been dishonest - i just don't want the sugar coated version of pollyanna lines.. i have spoken about this subject privately with one of you - ;) - and also with my hubby.

however, i'm wondering if i'm in the minority here when i bring this subject up.

Iv'e reviewed the scriptures concerning your "rebelious" ways and I can't seem to see the part were you arn't suposed to rebel against organized religion? Now if you are rebeling against God that one thing, and by reading your post I don't think that is what you are doing? I'm going to consider you a free thinker and there is nothing wrong with that in my book, in fact you can call me one as well.

ok long story short i was baptized at 17 (because i felt pressured into it), and i was df about 2yrs ago i believe (i'm 27 now).

i wasn't at the final meeting, or any meeting about my dfing.

i had an elder call me twice at work and tell me that there was meeting that night.

I just recently found this site myself and I love it.I applaud your courage to leave the JW's.There are many levels to your recovery and youv'e accomplished to most difficult one allready.I think you will find us "wordly" people arn't so bad! If being wordly means I'm a free thinking unconditional loving person, then call me WORDLY and proud of it!! Oh and by the way my relationship with God is better now than It ever was under the influance of the JW's!! Ive only posted a few messages on this chat room and I can tell you that there are some people here that are on a level that I aspire at one day.

I was tought that education was not as important than the work I did in Gods name.I still remember coming home from High School, and telling my drugged out Mom that I just dropped out. "Ah thats ok you don't need an education were your going"she slurred.

I'm 34 years old now and I'm currently studying for my G.E.D.

Its just a ploy by the borg.Just like the Mormons, they make you feel special.Its like bieng part of an exlusive club.Everyone wants to feel wanted,needed and special.How populated was the earth when the Bible was writen?They did not consider the future.

I have news for the borg,we are all God's children and we are all special to him.I don't waste my life working towards some goal that I won't know if I acheived it or not,I'll be dead! I spend my life doing what Jesus told us to do, not some man made Religion.I focus on what I can do in this life and not worry about the next.

i once talked to a jw about disfellowshipping and was curious to how can this be showing a christly love when you all out turn your back on them.

he gave me an answer about rightousness and unrightrousness having no fellowship (which is biblical) but it didnt make sense to me.

didnt seem applicable in many ways.

messed up from the dubs

does anyone think that the alot of x -dubs or even dubs still active have or end up having mental problems or mental illness,i think so personally.

i think its how i ended up with my anxiety problems.i just want to know what everyone thinks about this subject.

It sounds like we have alot in common.My sons 9th Birthday was on Saturday, and I tried my hardest not to breakdown.I went all day and then it was to much I went into the gerage to kick the heavy bag around.I try my Hardest to give my kids a life that was robbed from me.After 15 years of therapy,pills,prayer and everything thing else you can think of I still have issues,especially around the Hollidays.I found this forum just yesterday and I can honestllly say it makes me feal better knowing I'm not alone.I love my family more than life, but hey don't understand like some of you people do.
