Did you attend KH meetings under difficult conditions?
by greendawn inas jws were you willing to attend meetings even in cases of difficulty such as bad weather, if it was really cold, rainy, snowy, or if you didn't feel really well, or if you had to spend a lot of time to get there by car or public transport?
.
any interesting experiences?

Marriage - Why bother?
by Spectrum inyet another friend's marriage has broken down(5th), this one i did not predict at all.
it came as a shock to me.
they got married after 10 years of living together so it's not like they didn't know each other.

I agree with you Manic. Respect is key, that with communication, and FUN!! I once read that people are drawn romantically to people who they tend to have good times with. I also read that marriages where the man openly admires his wife tend to be stronger, happier, longer lasting marriages. Hmmm I may spend too much time reading.........

A lot of people are fooled into believing that they can make the other person happy but end up being the crotch of the other person who themselves are also deluded from the start.
How much action does that crotch see? Maybe it's a good thing.

Responsible (ie NIL) Childbearing in the Time of the End
by billyboy ini'm a bit out of the loop - what is the latest take on this?
i know that some fervent jws have in the past decided not to have children (which i always thought was a bit dumb) on the basis that they could have perfect ones in the new system but from my perspective , jws (strong & weak) are breeding like rabbits , without any censure or disapproval.. is it still a mark of spirituality not to have kids & is it still encouraged?
and excuse my ignorance (**blushes**)- how do you guarantee not to have children (eg for married bethelites)?

I only know, that my mother was a young girl at the convention in St Louis in 194? when they had all the kids of that age come down and sit in a special section for that talk. I believe Ray Franz was also there. They told them not to have children, and how irresponsible a thing it would be to do so, because armageddon was just around the corner. My mother is 77 years old. How horrible to imagine being at the end of life, with no family to comfort you because you were doing what the bOrg told you was righteous. Thank goodness my mom was hot blooded!!!

JWs Treatment of Women "Characteristically Fundamentalist"
by Seeker4 inbelow is a section from the essay, why the fundamentlaist approach to religion must be wrong by scott bidstrup.
i've long struggled with the jw view of women, and how they are treated in the congregations, and this part of the essay was particularly revealing to me.. .
see how many parallels with jws you can come up with from this list.. .

Durnit, you guys are makin' me cry again!
Dave, you are DA bomb dude!
Being a woman, I have to tell you folks, we are human too. Our brains and feelings run as deep as yours. Rex, you say "only" as if that makes it ok. Can you imagine life, where there was one thing you were not allowed to do/be/think, only because you were a man. It doesn't matter what that one thing was, the fact that you were being barred from it strictly on the basis of you being a man makes it unacceptable. It says you have some shortfall, because GOD made you a man.

You seem like a smart lad Richie! But it's much harder to be "more" of a person when you are a woman. I've never seen a bumper sticker that said No Fat Guys.
Anyway, as far as the water goes, I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I lost 45lbs about 5 years ago, and have managed to keep it off, with a periodical small slip up (holidays hurt, I love to cook and bake!). One of the things I changed drastically, was my water intake. I try to get 8-10 glasses a day. It's pretty easy if you get a couple of the larger water bottles, 1liter size, and every morning, you fill them. That is your goal for the day. That's 8 glasses. I usually have another glass that I take to bed with me and drink through the night. Just keep them with you at all times, and then at say 2 oclock, you know you should have at least one bottle down.

This reminds me of how my grandmother used to shake her head when she saw me reading. "If you're going to read hon, why don't you read some of the literature?" Or the time some zealot handed me a pamphlet before I had time to refuse, and she ripped it away from me in horror, as though it were the devils own hand

well technically anyone in a religion other than our own is an apostate.

I think it's a real shame that these kids have obviously been so brainwashed by the org, that they were unable to concentrate on spelling and vocabulary lessons.
