Sikhs - Is it degrading to for men to wear a turban?
by digderidoo inmerry's thread seems to be descending into debating the pros and cons of muslims.. but i want to pick up on one point that for some on this board they seem to feel that it is degrading for women to wear the hijab.. living in the midlands uk which is very multicultural there is a large indian sikh population.
some choose to wear the turban, some dont.
some of these may wear it due to social pressure, but i believe that for many it is an identity that they are proud of.. for those on hear who think that is demeaning for a muslim woman to wear the hijab, do they feel the same about a sikh man wearing a turban?

My father was 14 when he cut his hair and moved from India to Scotland to attend school, this was back in the '60s. He told me he still regrets making that decison. Thing is though, he never grew his hair or beard back.
My uncle in California is wears his turban with pride.
My opinion based on my family is that they are proud to wear the turban as it is attached to Sikh history and culture. They take much pride in that -

What Does A JW "Learn" At The Meetings?
by minimus incorrect me if you think i'm wrong but i don't think the meeting teach witnesses anything they don't already know.
"getting reminders".
i do not understand why anyone would want to leave the comfort of their homes to pretend that you're going to a "life-saving" meeting..

We learn that the meetings are a loving provision from Jehovah and we benefit by attending all 5 of them.

Special announcement last night just for our area
by seek2find inwell, the letter was read and it applied to our area.
it seems that a lot of people that attend the district convention in our area are not following the rooming arrangements.
so the letter was strong wording about using just the rooms on the list even if it means traveling 45 miles to do so.

Last night is was implied that the elders would be meeting with those whom they found out were making rooming arrangements outside the recommended list.
you've got to be kidding me, but then I wouldn't be surprised. I figure I'm sacrificing my vacation time from work, making travel arrangements on my dime... I would tell them to kiss my you know what....

Wish me luck!! Having surgery in the morning...
by babygirl75 ini'm having a minor outpatient surgery in the morning in charlotte.
the hospital just called me and asked me how i felt about blood transfusions and if i had any religious beliefs that would hinder my medical care.
they still had listed from years and years ago, that i was a jw.

I have shingles I think.

for those of you who don't know what it is.it's a form of the chicken pox virus.after you get chicken pox as a kid the virus goes dormant in your nerve endings.most people never have any problem again with this virus.some people like me get the shingles.the symptoms include pain in your nerves.a rash that looks like tiny blisters.aches and flu like symptoms.and many others.i am contagious to people who have never had the chicken pox before.especially small children and pregnant women.you can't get the shingles from me but you can get chicken pox from me.. i have this stabbing pain in my back which i thought was a pinched nerve.i also have a thing on my back in the spot where i thought i had the pinched nerve that i thought was a spider bite.the pain is radiating around my side to my right breast.my right breast has been burning for 3 days now,about the same amount of time as i've had this spider bite looking thing on my back.i chalked that up to time of the month.this "spider bite " looking thing is on my right side.i'm having aches and pains like i have the flu.i don't feel good.. i asked my boss's mom to look at this bite thing and see if that was what it was because i've never had a spider bite before but i know they can get infected really bad sometimes.i didn't put 3 and 3 together with the nerve pain and the burning breast and the spider bite thing.the other girl i work with was there and she said it looked to her like shingles.i freaked out because i've had them before but not since i was a kid i was 10 or 11.my boss has 3 little girls i thought might be able to get chicken pox from me through contact with him.
so i called a nurse answer line at the county hospital to see if that could happen.i told the nurse what was happening and what had been suggested to me might be shingles.she told me i needed to get my butt to the doctors in the next 24 hours for anti viral meds.that's the only way to clear this up quickly.otherwise i'll have this for months possibly.the nurse then proceeded to make an appointment for me tomorrow at the next available clinic in there system.she also made an appointment for me to get rated on a sliding scale to pay for this treatment.. stress brings them on so does weakened immune system from illness.i have both right now.i'm sick and i'm overly stressed at the moment.sigh..
