i had to take my dad to the va hospital for a doctor's appointment and in almost every waiting room there was magazines not even recent issues.
you have to wait for freaking ever at the va hospital so i decided to do my civic duty and i went around this huge hospital collecting magazines and would throw them in the nearest trash can.
nobody cared until i got on the 4th floor.

If her husband is a JW also, he certainly has no problem taking advantage of a service provided for him because of his service in an instiution that is supposedly evil. well, the upcoming nfl season is about to start in two days, with my team the new york jets being involved in the opening game.
now i was a little discouraged when our starting qb chad pennington (the best in the nfl) went down earlier in the preseason with an injury that will keep him out for more than half the season, but fortunately for the jets, they're one of the few nfl teams with a backup qb that can be a quality starter, so i don't expect that we will have much of a drop off with vinny testaverde taking the reigns temporarily.
he'll surpass 40,000 career passing yards this year, and he also has a stronger arm than does pennington, so look for deep plays to the wide receivers.
dubla, just feel happy that the referee was too blind to notice that Anthony Becht's 2 point conversion did not take a "short hop". Pennington's numbers were very good, and considering the lack of help by the offensive line, I think (CBS announcer) Randy Cross' assessment that Pennington is a top 5 QB in this league is more than warranted.
Yeah, getting swept is a little hard to take, but at least the Jets isn't the worst football team in NY (a team we both wrongfully picked for the playoffs). Savour your bragging rights for now, because next season when the Jets are hoisting the Lombardi trophy, you'll be feeling quite different .

they can be so dense and hypocritical!
when i pointed out to him that his ultimate fighting dvds are un-rated but in my opinion it is far worse to watch people fighting for pure entertainment purposes than it is to see a rated r movie that teaches a great life lesson.
He said he saw it and it was the most shocking movie he had ever seen.
Well, he's either lieing, or he hasn't watched any movies since "talkies" started being made. There are episodes of The Simpsons (a favourite show of mine ) that are way more shocking. Was he offended by a few curse words?
When I was young, my parents wouldn't let me see R rated movies that contained nudity, but they didn't seem to have much problems with violence. Witnesses go way overboard with the R rated stuff, but I found their dislike for Scooby Doo to be far more strange. My parents had no problem with me watching it.

But I did feel exactly the way you did (aged 12); I figured that it was simply what any good person would do, and obviously I had no real concept of what I was giving up. I don't recall having a "dedicate your life to God" prayer either.
there are generally two types of arguments against theism whether we are talking about the judeo-christian-islamic god, the god of deism, the hindu pantheon....whatever.
the "rational" arguments include all scientific, logical and historical problems with a supreme and all-loving being and include such fields as evolutionary biology, deconstruction of "holy" texts, archaeology, formal logic, etc.
science in particular has been eliminating the "explanatory" aspect of theism for hundreds of years now -- from copernicus to newton to darwin to einstein -- all, knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, have had a share in shattering faith.

Well, I wasn't born for 14 years after the movie's release, but I've had the joy of seeing it in my childhood. I instantly remembered the song from the movie as I read the title of the thread (and for that matter now I've got Mary Poppins songs going thru my head. Damn this thread ). I thought the child catcher was more funny than scary ("lolipops!").
