We all live in a context and cannot help but be influenced by other's active or passive efforts.
On this forum there is a context and within context more than one trend of thought, that is the battleground. Pulling and pushing trying to gain ground one on the other.
Why am I saying all this? Because if we are not careful we could be missing the point. The chances are we are all wrong. Who knows the third way?

Who is Your Mediator? ---- proof readers required
by jwfacts ina number of posters here have said that the watchtower doctrine that jesus is not our mediator is the one that they find most disturbing.
for this reason i have written a new article to post on my site.
the article is long, but i would appreciate if people could check it for doctrinal and historical accuaracy.

Are you saying that you believe the bible is god's word or you are just basing your hypothesis?

But weren't the first christians guilt of the same charlatanism as WTBS. They created a christ called jesus and said follow him if you want salvation. My understanding from reading on this board is that there never was to be a Christ that did what the Christians claim he was predestined to do. Paul has therefore done on the whole christian world what WTBS has done on JWs.

If it's a boy he will want a father to do things with and look up to. If it is girl she will want a father as the man in her life that will love her unconditionally.
Two female cousins of mine came from not broken marriages but their fathers were always abroad or out working all hours god sent. They adapted by becoming unhealthily attached to guys and usually the wrong guys. One of them went from one man to another looking for that love that illuded her as a child and eventually lost her direction in life. She used sex to get guys to love her, eventually she gave up and just maintained a promiscous life style. -

Do you think that the Book of "Genesis" is a fairytale?
by booker-t ini mentioned before on another post that i am in college working on my ba degree and i am having such a "hard" time with believing in the bible since taking my science class.
the information that i am learning is totally destroying my faith in the bible.
i still believe in jehovah and jesus and would never chose the "atheist" way but i am wondering if maybe the bible is just a book of fairytales to teach us a lesson.

I'm watching a program on wolves hunting down, killing and eating caribou. They are engineered to be this way. What kind of god would engineer this? That is the question that at least needs to be asked if not answered.
Killing for survival is part of life on earth. -

Does my Dad really believe? Carbon Dating?
by Crumpet inlast night i watched a documentary about climate change on bbc1 by our own beloved david attenborough and for the first time with a little ad-lib commentary from mr crumpet i finally grasped how carbon dating works.
it showed a coal mine - open cast in china and explaiened how the coal comes from trees but that it takes hundreds of thousands of years to become coal.
my dad was a miner - a coal miner - travelling miles underground to get coal.

Airplanes that crash landed on an icesheet in Greenland in the 1940s were found about 50/60 years later embedded 200 feet down in compressed solid ice.
I don't know what this means exactly but it seems that things can move rapidly. If you wanted to take ice core samples to measure the composition of the atmosphere, how far back in time would 200 feet represent? I did a very quick unscientific calculation using antartic dated ice cores and I work it out to very approximately 4600 years for 200 feet. But the planes moved that distance in 50 years. If we didn't know those planes were 50 years old we would date them 4600 years old clearly absurd but scientists need to stick faithfully to their science. There is a major discrepancy. Is it my simplistic calculation or can things move faster than expected hence things seem older than they are in reality?

How It Was Collected
The Vostok Ice-Core was collected in East Antarctica by the Russian Antarctic expedition. The Vostok Ice-Core is 2,083 meters long and was collected in two portions: 1) 0 - 950 m in 1970-1974, 2) 950 - 2083 m in 1982-1983. The total depth of the ice sheet from which the core was collected is approximately 3,700 meters.
Results
While unable to provide specific dates (within a millenia), the analysis show definate evidence of the the last two ice ages. Using the methods listed above the bottom of the ice-core was laid down 160,000 +- 15,000 years ago. It should be noted that all of the methods listed above were consistent with the above results.

PrimateDave,
"Is there a god or gods? Is there a Devil, and are there really demons?
If demons exist, why do they insist on scaring people instead of carrying on
meaningful conversations with humans?
keep living so we at least know it's possible?"
These very good points. Simple but can trip up a die hard christian or moslem -

Lyli,
That was a nice piece and an anathem for JWs. They could never think the way you suggest.
Though your words try to say otherwise, still the essence of your post fulfills the title of this thread.
The point I'm trying to make is, we cannot get away from it, especially when discussing these matters. You convinced me of how christians should behave. But now I have to take a step back and think what has Lyli done to me? And the never ending cycle continues. -

If you think about it, it's true.
We tell each other don't believe that, believe this. What's the difference? Constant shifting sands, one minute the grains are over here then we seek to blow them over there. Where are we running to who are we pushing where?
How can we not be like JWs when we seek to change the aspect of a person that they seek to change?
Have we become like them?
