VG,
At some point, we who leave the Org, come to realise that the belief sold to us that we are not going to die but live in peace on earth forever is fake. I found that it was a painful realisation, hard to come to terms with the idea that I too would die like my neighbour and so on. Eventually though you accept it and start living, that's the only option and I take comfort in that. I went from being depressed by the realisation that I will die to oh well now I've got to live life to the full and enjoy what I have now.
Don't tell your friend anything for now. If he is out long enough and doesn't get sucked back in he will figure it out for himself. He'll have to figure it out though otherwise living outside the Org still believing in their false dogmas and predictions is very unhealthy, take it from me. Just be a friend to him now.

This just tears too deep into my gut...
by Van Gogh inas i am struggling with maintaining my own sanity and very fundaments of existence after recently swiftly cutting all ties with with whatever i held to be dear, sacred and true, for what will have been most of my life...; .
after learning about some disturbing developments in someone else's life, i reconnected with somebody from my past through the amazing internet again, telling i had left for ever and for good.
this is a former elder, somebody i considered to be very successful in life... despite the borg.

Is the onus on us to understand God or vice versa?
by Spectrum ini really feel at a disadvantage here because i don't really know this god.
with my limited brain power i can only understand what i can experience around me with my five senses.
that doesn't include the spiritual world as i have no biological/neurological receptors for this.

Thanks for those responses.
I think that for those that believe that drawing close to God, draws Him closer to us are actually just affirming their belief in a God so it's like an internal cause and effect that sometimes may or may not have real world effects. -

Why then should the onus be on me to understand/follow God? It is unfair and makes no sense.
I think this is a crucial question because it has far reaching implication about how humans perceive the meaning of life, religion and other stuff I can't even think right now.
I therefore propose that God should verifiably reveal himself to us then the ball will be in our court.
What good is a god that hides in heaven?
Children that grow up never having met one or either parents always have questions to ask, even having them answered by proxy gives little relief. -

What are the most insincere things JWs say?
by Spectrum init really makes me angry when they say i love jehovah.
they don't know what they are talking about.
if they read with an open mind the carry-ons of this cruel mesopotanian god they would feel ridiculous and embarrassed for putting this god before their family, their children.

If it was Christ I could understand, he is a likable fella, looking to help those in need but instead they part reject him.
My niece said it the other day, "I want to get baptised because I love Jehovah", it made me cringe. -

So I have a Question...And I would appreciate an answer...^_^
by NaruNaruChan inwow, it's been forever since i posted on here.
anyway, in the last three years i've managed to completely separate myself from the jw way of thinking.
at this point, i know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's crap, and their teachings mean nothing to me... but my best friend made a terrible mistake, so i need some advice regarding his situation.. .

If he loves her then he is gonna have to get creative and find a way to lure her back to him. If he just sits on his ass then nothing will happen.
Do cold hysterical JW women know how to love or are they too busy loving Jehovah? -

My sis calls & says,"Your dead"&"I wish you'd died in a car accident"(long)
by morwen inya know... i'm a bit amazed at times at how utterly out of touch with reality jw's can be.
here's a little bit of a background of what's been going on....
i've been having an on going issue with my jw family about my husband & i(and our 4 young children) no longer going to meetings and us having questions/problems with this religion.we are not df'd nor da'd (at this point) but have not been to a meeting in about 7 months and have been inactive for probably 3-4 years now.we haven't lived near my parents for several years so they have been a little "in the dark" so to speak as to us being inactive but we kinda were given a bit of "lee-way" since 5 yrs.

It must be horrible to sit there and study books that are leading people up the garden path.
What kind of grounding do they get compared to a BSc RE students in something like Revelations? -

how do guys ask you out on a date these days?
by Calliope inever feel like you've been sequestered from normal human interaction for too long?.
since my split (from hubby), i've been wondering what the rules are these days.
in my earlier days, i was a partying stoner (well, a closet one) and i didn't date guys as much as end up in a closet or in a parked car, hot tub... okay you got the picture.. so, i've been email bantering back and forth with this guy i used to work with and yesterday, got this email:.

Nosferatu,
" Don't worry about looking like a slut, because guys don't give a shit about that type of labelling."
I definitely don't agree with this. If a woman looks like a slut she will be treated like one. The men that don't give a damn are the ones that a woman should stay away from unless she wants to be treated like a slut. -

What's missing from this forum is ....
by Spectrum in... enough jws and non ex-jws to have a two sided debate that can give more depth than the current one sided debates that are typical of almost every thread apart from creation/evolution threads.
these manage to polarise us in informative albeit heated debates.
an argument should have a counter argument so that as much ground is covered as possible on both sides of the debate.

I think some of you have missed the point I was trying to make.
It isn't about the inability of some JWs to make convincing sensical arguments but the lack of them on this site which leads to one sided debate, everybody agreeing with everybody else and slapping each other on the back on a debate well done. To me this is like inbreeding, the end results aren't good, even freakish.
I noticed that the main point raised here is JWs can't argue cos they are brainwashed. Well this fact being exposed is good enough for me to want more of them on this site. The brainwashed arguments they come up with need to be refuted and exposed as such, it's a better debate than:
John, you know JWs are brainwashed?
I believe you are right Pete.
In my opening post I also included non ex-JWs ( never have been JWs) who can lend themselves to good debate. Shazard is a good example. -

That my friends baby brother and sister were actually his half siblings cos his horny mother had an affair with a JW stud that didn't know what condoms were. The mother left the org or was dfed and the stud got away with it but I think he is out now.
Yes the revelation was quite shocking.
