at the bookstore where i work free coffee has been provided for at least 6 years now.. the customers (and non-customers who just come in and mooch) go through a dozen or so pots a day!.
our store manager decided we could ill afford to provide both caffeine free and regular coffee because of 2 reasons.. 1.we are always running out of regular and not that many people drink caffeine free.. 2.when we do run out of regular the customers get really pissed off and hunt employees down to complain!.

i am not gonna lie, i know i did somewhat, and here's my story of it.. .
i remember my mom and her girl-friend (yes, she was bi-sexual, her gf was a lesbian.
) and my mom's gf..um..let's call her jill (not her real name) was very..well, not very but was somewhat strict almost over everything, i remember i couldn't evfen watch that 70's show!
Being brought up in a dyed-in-the-wool cult, JWs, I now look back at the isolation from my school mates and the community as a negative in my upbringing. The most important and long lasting loss was my education. Not just the attitude of unimportance during my 1-10 grades (yes, I dropped out with total family encouragement to do so) but the entire outlook towards a future in "this system of things".
This a bad organization. It is basically a parasite on its members and has created an atmosphere of isolation which it enforces for the protection of its own ends.

You don't say how this coffee is served. Does a customer ask an employee for a coffee or is the coffee set out for self service? Another question, Does the volume of cups of coffee being served seem to match the customer volume or are there individual customers who are tanking up, cup after cup?
Sounds like a nice promotional thing to do but I think there is a lack of a control plan by the store.

While this attitude may comfort you that you are morally superior to the great unwashed masses it also makes you fodder for those of low character who have come to desparation. There is a balance to the self preservation instinct that leads to a better quality of life for all, the young, old and feeble and for Tammy too.

That's a pejorative way of putting it. Why not simply acknowledge that humans, like all the rest of natural life, are instinctive survivors. Rather than being surprised or dissapointed I think you should reflect on the lesson that Ayn Rand and many others have pointed out, that pursuit of self interest is the key to the success of the human race. It is a big subject, but your free coffee observation is a basic truth of nature.
anyone who deeply believes in a "free press" is very naive in my opinion.
for example, consider how stories about scandal suddenly appear out of nowhere after candidates actually start running.
i am also aware of how surprizing revelations appear in european newspapers about figures in the us - while little or nothing is reported in the american press.
Man will have a short reign as the top banana of this earth- maybe 50,000 more years before our civilization goes back to the pre-industrial age for most of humankind. This is just a blink of an eye, so what are the odds that an alien civilization and us, would be advanced enough at the same time to be able to communicate ?

Soft boiled in the shell, the top removed and then served in an egg cup with toast fingers. Now that is first class but too much trouble for the cook and the maid in our house. I think Cary Grant liked his egg served in that way.
