Any religion has the propensity to become a cult. Well put. And if I may elaborate, Any cult has the propensity to become a religion.

Seems to me that most of my friends who call themselves "new agers" are idealistic people who have done too many drugs.
LOL!! That should be in dictionary just as it's written.

Yates verdict
by sammielee24 inthe andrea yates verdict came down again and it was not guilty.
she will be sent to a mental facility instead of prison where in time, and after therapy, she may in all liklihood be reintegrated into society at some point.
what do you think of the verdict?

And as for you Gregor, let me be clear: It would have been WRONG to pick on and bully Andrea Yates further to make YOU and people like you feel better, to pander to your most base "instincts".
Well!, as for YOU, Sixofnine! harumphh!
As usual, my friend, you sound extremely sure of your wonderful self! "Pick on and Bully" are YOUR words. We have been refering to the implimentation of established legal punishment for the crime of murdering 5 small children. Apparently, by your way of thinking, murderers are only punished to satisfy the base instincts of us backward hillbillys who think that child murderers should be dealt with harshly by society. Who also feel that, in this case, the so-called insanity defense is hard to accept because of the very actions of Yates at the time before, during and after the planned, methodical drowning of her five children in a bathtub one at a time. Since when do we, especially on this site, accept the idea that egregious acts of religeous psychosis are automatically to be excused. Agreed, her attorneys won on their appeal. This does not mean it is RIGHT in the moral sensibilities of a lot of people. That's what is being aired out on this topic. Why not respect the feelings of people who honestly don't agree with you instead of caricaturing us as mean spirited, knuckle dragging rednecks. I respect you but disagree with you a lot. I really don't think your stance on this subject is correct. But the world will continue to turn no matter what the JWs say, right? Honest debate very gradually improves the lot of mankind but, like water dripping on a stone, it does take a lot of it see improvement.

I really appreciated your post. There are many of us who still have a natural sense of right and wrong. Many on this site, who I think are having a backlash experience after many years of WTS suffocation, don't seem to want to come right out and call anything right or wrong. We've got a few on here who fervently believe that there is no "good & evil".
It is easy to be intimidated by those who fall into the above way of thinking. For one thing, they all assume on air of intellectual superiority. Don't let them put you on the defensive. Many of them, I think, are good folks. I just don't feel that their pendulum has stopped swinging.
By the way, when I left the org. I also jettisoned a belief in a "god". But I did not shed my instinctive belief in right and wrong. Intellectuals believe that the more you resist your instincts the smarter you are.

Maybe, instead of focussing on punishment/retribution, we should try to see what can be salvaged from this point on. How many people are normal, totally free of screw ups, anyway? I have seen a lot of screwed up people, and the more i get to know people, the more i find out that they are all (almost all) screwed up somehow.
Satanus, I urge you to seek help. You are one confused dude.

We had an elder who decided that a 'real' JW wouldn't even own a TV set. He did a little skit on the platform where someone got down on all fours and pantomimed worshipping a TV set. (Looking down at the TV guide then reaching up to change channels and adjust the set.) Nobody took it seriously but he let it be known at every opportunity that TVs were from Satan.

Rationalizing someones heinous acts is the first step on the slippery slope that leads to blurring the lines of right and wrong. She methodically drowned the 5 (FIVE), little human beings she was responsible for. Her 'head up his ass' husband, in spite of her mental illness, continued to collect his "marital dues" without regard for the obvious fact she was not capable of caring for herself, let alone the 5 children he impregnated her with under the age of, what? 11? They might as well have been a sack of unwanted kittens tossed in the local canal. END OF STORY. NOW IT SHOULD BE TIME TO PAY THE PIPER. But no, now she's on her way to spend her life being coddled in a mental health institution. (I see a book deal in the near future) He will visit and talk about the time little Mary said her first word or Bobby took his first step. Gag me with a spoon.

Did he think he would not be tested? I just don't believe it. Especially since the French just booted their top cyclists for steroids?
Something smells fishy. They tried to get Armstrong disqualified a couple of wins back and it was chalked up to sour grapes by the French.
If he did dope himself he is one of the biggest morons in history. We'll see.
