I believe that our children learn a lot of valuable things about life as they observe how parents deal with pets. Sometimes pets have babies and homes have to be found for them. I would emphasize to your daughter that you would not have let kitty go unless you were sure the new owner would treat it well. We have been through some tears with our kids when pets had to go.

A friend had to have his cat put down last weekend. The cat was 20 yrs 6 mos. old and he had had her from a kitten. It was like a death in the family. How can you not love kittys?

If the end is so close, are the elders trying to contact lost sheep?

In the late seventies they instructed all the elders to contact those in their area who had "faded". Some of these people had been gone for 20 years but they had never been DF'd or anything else. The purpose was to try to reactivate them or disfellowship them. "Officially in or officially out" were the words of our Elder school instructor, Sam Friend. (By the way, this campaign led to some of the stupidest, most assinine elder visits you could imagine)
It's just another tactic to ratchet up some "the end is near" excitement.

Did any of you ever try to "un-do" a potential conversion?
by whyizit ini can see from this forum that many jws took quite awhile to decide that the wts was not the "truth" after all.
some stayed in, even after making that decision, for various reasons.
did any of you ever come to the conclusion that some of the things you were teaching to others were not biblical, and then try to dissuade prospective converts to discontinue their study?

I think I would have a hard time teaching others a religious belief that I myself was questioning. How would you get around that?
Wow, Whyizit has asked the big loaded question that comes to my mind quite often, especially when I'm reading posts of active elders. One in paricular seems to only be interested in discussing left wing political positions and rarely if ever addresses the WTS subject. How does one deal with this internally?

Sorry, I should have read more carefully. I see where this came up over disagreement with WT doctrine, the most noble of reasons to either be DF'd or to DA oneself!
We XJW's need to come up with a Medal of Valor, Purple Heart, Oak Leaf cluster, and the ultimate, Jehovahs Witness Freedom Medal of Honor.
I nominate you for the latter.

Good for you! Of course, if there was any fairness on their part they would read the DA letter to the congregation. Of course that will never happen. However, potentially all the elders will read it. Too bad more couldn't....... see....it... HOLD ON! I have heard of cases where those who are DA'ing stick a copy of their letter on all the windsheilds in the parking some night during the service meeting. Others have gone to the trouble of sending out copies in a general mailing to cong. members. I think this is a great idea!. It employs the very tactics the JWs use to get the word out.
Now, I am writing this without knowing WHY you were in their crosshairs. If you've been arrested for bank robbery or child porn then I would feel differently than ehat I've said here. But, I give you the benefit of the doubt! Carry on, and best regards.

Is a "Pure" religion an oxymoron?
by free2beme init seems that everyone i know who claims to be in the right religion, has the idea that their religion is some how more pure or perfect then all others.
whether is a christian faith as a whole, or an individual sect of christianity.
yet, no one seems to be willing to see that their religion, has, does and will do the same.

Of course religion is a stew of mankinds accumulated superstitions, political manipulations and, thankfully, mans instinctive sense of right and wrong - which is one of the most primitive emotions we all are instilled with. It is recognized in the ground rules of most all religions - except Hedonism, one of the oldest religions of manking, which has been enjoying a comeback.

Would it now be permissible to have sexual activity fractions as long as whole copulation intercourse is abstained? I wouldn't hold your bated (or baited, like when you have a big worm in your mouth) breath. The JWs went through the "as long as you don't put it in" phase a long time ago (think of the Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis years) and it was taken full advantage of by all the young hot blooded JWs. Then the WTS realized they had left open the potential for a lot of pretty serious heavy breathing up on Blueberry Hill. In the early '60s they had some nitty gritty clarifications and that started tightening things up. In the years since they have only gotten more and more narrow. Now the Witlesses feel lucky they are allowed to have missionary sex with their own mates (as long as the lights are off, of course).

Our house is listed for sale. I hate this phase. The place has to be pristine to show on no less than 30 min. notice. Then we have to gather up the two Chihuahuas and get out of the house for an hour or so. This is the third weekend of this. Hard to relax. Wife is gone all day today, I may sneek out to see Miami Vice.
