  I know you all love to put down Fox news, it's makes you all feel so...intellectual and cutting edge, rightly so and just as it should be.

  However, in this case, all Fox, Wall Street Journal, LA Times, AP, etc etc. did was pass along a press release by some professor of Islam and Mideast Studies who pointed out the above mentioned significance of 8/22 to Muslims. He is the one who suggested that it would be an appropriate date for some terror event.

  That gives me less than two weeks to get straight with Jay Hoover.

  when i got off for lunch today i decided to go to the walmart deli and get something to eat.

  it is a huge store, groceries, a bakery, mc donalds, a bank , eye center, beauty shop, a great deli, and a huge garden center.

  i had taken back a 80 gig hard drive dvd recorder ( i couldn't figure out how to hook up <smile> and had received 238.00. i picked up a couple of things in the store then went to the deli.

  Once when my wife, 3 little ones and I were having some hard times, I had just returned some pop bottles that I hade picked up along the road. I think it was less than $2.00. Anyway, I knew I couldn't buy many groceries with that and the cupboards were empty at home. I looked up in sky as I crossed the parking lot and said a silent prayer. When I looked down, right in front of me was a womans purse sitting in a shopping cart. I took a quick look around, grabbed it and skedaddled. From the contents I could see that the purse belonged to some ditz with plenty of cash and credit cards. I kept the cash and ditched the purse in a trash can. Thanks to our heavenly fathers intervention we were able to buy the kids burgers and cokes and we treated ourselves to a couple of T-bones and a nice bottle of Cab.

  JWs are gossip mongers

  once i left the jw social scene and started hanging out with "worldly" people a lot more, i realized that these "worldly" people don't gossip nearly as much as the witnesses.. i didn't realize it at the time but now i can see how much of a gossip-based social structure it all was.

  jws absolutely thrive on gossip.

  I grew up with my mother, aunts and grandmother almost constantly gossiping about members of the cong. Over a period of 40 years one of my uncles was a "company" servant, then a "congregation" servant and finally an elder. He kept the above mentioned cadre supplied with fresh material. In turn, the cadre of women also kept him supplied with hot leads based on other sources of gossip about sexual transgressions, marital problems, etc.

  My Grandparents and their oldest daughter and the son-in-law mentioned above lived in mobile homes or rented apts and moved frequently. He always planned ahead to make sure he went to a cong. where he would remain a servant. The moves were usually brought on after a year or two of their joining a cong. Then the gossip shit would start to hit the fan, hard feelings ensued and it was time for them to "shake the dust from their feet" and move on to where they would be appreciated.

  For me, it was like growing up in a small family comune of people who were a combination of "Grapes of Wrath" migrants, Judge Rutherford devotees and general mainstream misfits. They took me and my cousins out of public school as soon as possible. Sometimes just moving and not registering us until the neighbors noticed we didn't go to school. Armageddon was always just about to break out so why even bother with school.

  Yeah, I'm about as afraid of JW definition "Armageddon" as I am of being abducted by space aliens and anally probed. Can't hardly sleep at night.

  The closest thing to Armageddon we really should be worried about is nuclear weapons being used by radical elements, the Islamic fascists or despotic dictatorships such as No Korea. The chaos resulting from a nuclear device being set off in a large city anywhere in the world, and the aftermath, would immediately and directly affect each and every one of us.

  i was raised in the anglican church as a child i attended regualary with my beloved grandma.

  she passed away in 1992, and when i left the organization in 1999 i had thoughts of perhaps going back to that way of faith.

  Jesus Christ! It sounds ugly enough already! I've never understood how it could be rationalized to use coercion to get some one to stay involved in the org. Do they really believe that Jehovah sees everything?

  read 1 Peter chap. 3. It's only about half a page. In a way it presents a strategy for you that your husband would have to respect and at the same time you might be able to make a few points with him in exposing the WTS.
  The first part of the chapter talks about the relationship between husband and wife and how our conduct and attitude should eliminate harsh words in the marriage. Then, in vs. 14, 15 16 It talks about a how believer should respond when questioned about their beliefs. They are instructed tobe ready to give a thorough answer with calmness and respect. This could open the door to your tactfully asking him loaded questions. It also is a good scripture to have as an answer when he or the elders start trying to box you into saying something "apostate".

  No offense people, but how can you classify and entire organization or congregation as filth when only talking about relatively few incidents. Sad story however, for i've seen the same. Matt.7:15-20 talks about the basic rule of judging a "tree". Bad trees bring forth bad fruit, Good trees-good fruit. etc... "By their fruits ye shall know them"(vs 20). The WTS uses this rule to condemn other religions. "What's good for the goose"...etc. As a former elder one of the things that began to open my eyes was the huge percentage of problems dealing with sexual immorality that arose from a modest little congregation of about 100 publishers (150+ including unbaptized family and friends). Near the end I once told the body of elders that I strongly believed that our congregation (and JWs in general) when compared with an equal number of people, randomly selected from off the street, would have a much higher incidence of sexual transgressions of all kinds. It was an awkward moment, but no one disagreed with me.

  So, let me see if I understand. From the JW pov - I am an apostate. I left the "Organization" So I am - "Apostate/Bad."

  Many JWs, who converted from Catholicism, Baptists, Islam..etc, are also apostates, but now "Apostate/Good"

  So, in other words, a huge focus of their work is to convince others that they should become apostates and join the JWs.

  Quebec City and Vancouver BC, I was underwhelmed by Montreal.

  New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia (I liked it for the American history, Likewise Boston area). Tampa.

  London, and my fave, Tokyo - New York in Japanese! Beautiful day trips to temple compounds (Kamakura) and mountain lakes.
