Kristyann, If that is you in your avatar then as an attractive young woman you don't really need to take big chances with Mr. Strange. I agree with others here. I don't think he is being straight with you. He's just trying to soften you up for the real story, which might be an accusation of rape in his past or something else of an unsavory nature. The cousin part is really no big deal in many cultures. Hell, in Arkansas the only place young people can get dates is at family reunions.

Getting shunned by JW's that were always WEAK makes me so mad
by PaNiCAtTaCk indoesnt it make you mad to get shunned by jw's that barely made the meetings??
to get shunned by jw's that you used to go encourage.
by jw's that always led double lives.

It is quite possible that these "weak" JWs are trying to over-compensate for their weakness by shunning. Think about it. They have to "try harder" than the rest to prove they are "loyal" [yuck].
LongHairGal put her finger right on it. I once started a topic here on the same subject, the weakest are really the strongest when it comes to shunning, refusing blood transfusions for themselves or children, draft punishment, etc. But when it comes to field service, Theo. Ministry School, conducting BS or even answering a question in a study, they are not involved. "YUCK" is the word.

My dad wants to know if he is the only one that thinks this way......
by Rayvin ini mentioned in casual convo about a message board where jws that are disappointed w/ treatment etc.. go and share experiences and support each other.
he asks " i wonder really how many people there are out there that feel and think the way i do?
" i try to hold back my grin.

I think I am following your situation. You are saying that your Dad is vulnerable to the right circumstance and person. I think it might be difficult to arrange for a covert agent to get next to him. You may have to be a little more bold. Maybe ask more loaded questions. Ask them as you walk away. Don't put him on the spot. Sounds like he is ready to start thinking for himself. Forgive me if I have misunderstood your post.

AK Jeff - On more than one occasion it struck me as ludicrous for a commitee of janitors, auto mechanics and ditch diggers to be setting on matters of other peoples personal problems, mental illness and of course child abuse cases that should have been handled by the law. I have to include myself as one who thought they were capable of counseling people who I now realize were seriously in need of professional mental health counseling.

Will Lack of Leadership Sink the JW Ship?
by Seeker4 ini see serious problems with the leadership of the witnesses on two important levels: locally, in smaller bodies of elders with marginally qualified men carrying heavier workloads, and internationally in a lackluster and unimaginative governing body.
there are no nathan knorrs, or fred or ray franz's in this pathetic group!
first, the local elders: .

Gregor - Who gave them the authority to meet secretly and decide 'everlasting matters' for those being tried. AK Jeff, I agree with your post as far as the whole concept being wrong. But the people who went to the authority figures they accepted had a right to expect their personal matters be kept private.

Bilz. I appreciate your candid post. You are not the lone ranger in your breaking trust, don't beat yourself up over it. For me it was just something I never did and my wife never pressed me. I saw first hand some situations where elders wives used inside info as currency (gossip) to raise their stature among their female peers in the cong. It was a nasty business.
The worst case, which I have posted here before, was of an older brother who's wife had cancer. He went to an elder who was an old friend and 'confessed' to him that he had been masturbating and it was eating at his conscience. The elder told him to stop doing it (brilliant). Then the elder told his wife about poor old Clarence and she told a few pals and it became snickering gossip and it got back to Clarence that damn near the whole cong. knew he was jacking off. His wife of fifty years passed away, he quit going to meetings and isolated himself from all the people he had ever known. He died shortly thereafter. This was rotten behavior.

The WTS is not operating in a vacuum. Older members are dying/leaving. New blood doesn't have the stability of a membership made up of extended families as in the good ol' days. The world and everything in it is in flux. I stand by my view that they are in decline.

I know of nothing but bad things happening when elders shared things with their wives, buddies, or whoever, the confidential matters they were entrusted with. Dirty pool. It's all a part of what's wrong with the WTS. No justification for it.
