WHO HAS READ C.O.C.? WHAT WAS AN EYE OPENER FOR YOU?
by juni ini am half way through the book and am finding some surprising information.
i was always told that the gb met on wed. and prayed before considering their decisions on things, but was i surprised that different ones were given the assignments and to use if they wanted other "worldly" written things and then were off on their own to work independantly or w/another to come up w/the book, etc.. also, the malawi and mexico difference in treatment.
brothers lied to escape military service in mexico.

What are JW's taught about friendships with worldlies?
by Worldly ini'm new to posting here, but i've been lurking for awhile trying to find out more about the jw life, as i have a dear friend who is a jw, but there are many things i don't understand about him, and how he treats our friendship.
i came right out and asked him once if it was true that he was not allowed to be friends with people outside of his religion, and he said "no, but we are encouraged to spend our time with "like-minded" people and that he had other friends besides me who weren't jw.
we met at work and seemed to be very close, but i've always felt some aloofness.

I quit smoking and drinking 25 years ago last july cold turkey, I could not quit one without quitting the other they seem to go hand in hand. Hard for first few weeks, but gets easier as time goes on.

Why I belong to JWD
by Jez inmy jw sil doesn't approve of me being on this site.
she has compared it to a black person having a friend that is a member of a anti-black community.
where else can you get so many varied opinions about a religion that i grew up in, would have died for, have family members that are members of, have questions about myself and find answers to some tough questions i have?

I find there are so many smart people on this forum that is why I am here. One can learn more here than forty years a JW. as I was. I know more about their religion now then most active JW's do.

A Memo for my JW dad
by Lilycurly ini have been daed for months but only recently, after having asked every and each person he could ask (even writting a letter to the wt), my dad decided he couldn't talk to me anymore.
it has hit my non-jw mother very hard that her husband could do that.
she cries a lot, but we are trying to be strong and hold ourselves together, and try in anyway we can to make him open his eyes..... tomorrow, i have decided to leave the crisis of conscience book on his desk with a with page on it, written on big black letters that will say.... "i was wondering if every man would be capable of shunning his own children and break up his family because of a group of men.. then i realised that no, some men have chosen to open their eyes and *truly* follow jesus, example...... with love, your daughter".

Lilycurly, point out to him the quote from the elders book "pay attention to yourselves and to the flock" page 103 says " normally a close relative would not be disfellowshipped for associating with a disfellowshipped person unless there is spiritual association or an effort made to justify or excuse the wrongful course. So if he shuns you it is soley his decision.

Hi janelle welcome to the forum. I felt like you did when I left 26 years ago. Nobody could talk religion to me, I was very bitter. But I always felt there was something missing in my life. So I did some investigating into various churches and after six years of ex dubdom I along with my wife joined another religion, and have been happy there for 20 years.
