Remember too that many witnesses go to more than one assembly. One to work and one to listen to the crap (talks) So they are actually being counted twice. As has been said you really can't take their figures at face value.

Witnesses reach out to U S A immigrants
by alanv inas has been said recently by many in the know, the society are now targeting more and more immigrants who come to the usa.
sometimes helping them with the new language they need to learn.
these individuals then think how wonderful these people are to take the time and trouble to teach them a language.. little do they know what awaits them if they join the witnesses.. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2012327460_jehovahswitnesses11m.html.

It is very hard for you in this situation, but there comes a time when you can no loger live a lie. Although your daughters may like going to meetings now it's extremely likely they will leave as they get older (66% of those brought up as witnesses leave when they become adults)
Your husband almost certainly likes the power he has in the cong, but sooner or later he will hopefully see the double standards and hypocrisy that goes on in the org. I wish you well.

Did you ever voice disagreement at the Watchtower study?
by MrMonroe init was only after leaving that i realised just how absurd and inaccurate many of the statements in the wt study really are.
the tag-team application of "this generation" is a classic example.. i'm interested to know if anyone who was in "good standing" actually did speak up at a meeting and challenge what's in the study.
what was the reaction?.
-
alanv
There were certainly times that I really wanted to say something against a point that was being made.
However it is very hard to do that, for the moment you say anything in disagreement with the point being made, the whole congregation would be glaring at you for having doubted what 'God's org' was telling you. Even if you did muster up the courage to say something the WT study conductor would always say that we should speak about it privately at the end of the study.

What a messed up Cult the JW religion is
by Think About It ini'm reading coc for the first time.
a governing body that is suppose to be god's channel on earth and led by jehovah's holy spirit could not even change jw dogma even though the majority of those present voted for change.
there had to be a 2/3's vote of the total gb membership.
-
alanv
Hi think about it. You are right. It is a messed up religion. Crisis of Conscience has helped so many people on this and other sites. Ray Franz the author was able to tell it exactly as it was because of being on the governing body for 9 years.

Chosen in 1919, but they didn't realize it until 1929
by UnConfused inno, i don't have the wt articles at my fingertips.
it is the case though that it wasn't until 1929 that the wt changed their current understanding to be that they were inspected and selected in 1919 - 3 1/2 years after 1914 and christ's return to the throne.. .
wouldn't you think such an important event would have been revealed in a more obvious way?.
-
alanv
I may be wrong but I believe the society actually say that Jesus set up his heavenly kingdom in 1914, then 3.5 years later in 1918 he ressurected the anointed who had died up to that time. It was then in 1919 that he appointed the witnesses to proclaim the kingdom message in all the earth, choosing them and no one else.

Since 2003 that is a 2% increase. In reality it is a decrease, when you allow for the increased population in the U K over the past 7 years.
Anyone got the figures for U S A or any other country. It should make interesting reading.

Incoming communication from Borg elder
by sd-7 ini guess it's about time to post on what happened over the weekend.
i was telling my old pal jamiebowers about it and she thought it was hilarious.
thought i might retell the tale on a thread of its own.. so, i dropped my wife off at the kh for her cult recruitment activities.
-
alanv
I'm not sure I would say it was hilarious like Jamie did, but what I would say is that if you were disfellowshipped and have no intention of going back, why not tell them the reasons. I'm sure since leaving you must have found a wealth of imfo. about the JWs.
I really wish I could do that, I would love to share with them what many ex witnesses have found out about this fake org. Unfortunately I had to fade as I have family still in and clearly don't want to lose them from my life.
Maybe if you get accosted again you can tell them why you are not going back. Good luck for the future and enjoy a borg free life.

I'm Going To The Watchtower Headquaters Next Week And I Have A Question
by Blue Grass innext week i plan on going to new york to get a songbook in a foreign language for a district convention that i will be attending next month.
i'm first going to go to bethel and get directions to the headquarters where they keep all their literature because i can't find it on google maps.
my first question is will they let me in to get directions or literature if i'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
-
alanv
I'm sure they will let you in. As a JW they would expect you to obey their spiritual direction that you should dress up. However I don't believe they will make an issue of it. Let us know how you got on.
I imagine providing you make a donation to the WT for any literature you take, they couldn't care less if you are a witness or not.
