Hi everyone I regularly go onto the Topix website and on one thread this was said earlier today.
Found on Facebook this morning:
"At our service meeting it was announced that there is a change in the manner in which magazines are now to be delivered to the congregations.
Up until now, magazines were sent to each Kingdom Hall via UPS. In years past magazines were sent t...o each congregation PO's home address via UPS.
Going forward, magazines will be sent only as far as the Assembly Hall. It is the responsibility of each Kingdom Hall to send brother(s) twice a month to drive out there, pick up the magazines, and return.
This of course saves a little bit of money for the Society - shipping larger packages to fewer addresses will cost less.
However, what about the expenseto the local congregations?
A typical Assembly Hall probably has 20-25 circuits assigned to it. Each of those circuits has 20-25 congregations.
That's 400-600 congregations, maybe 200 or 250 Kingdom Halls shared among them. Each of those Kingdom Halls now has to send, twice a month, a van or truck to the assembly hall to pick up the magazines.
Our Kingdom Hall is only about 40 or so miles from the Assembly Hall - but what about congregations out in the sticks? Maybe they are 150, 200, 300 miles away from their assembly hall. Think of the expense - the gasolinealone could run into the hundreds of dollars per month. Multiply that by the hundreds of Kingdom Halls assigned to each assembly hall, then think of the dozens of assembly halls in use in the USA.
As usual, the Society acts to save itself a little money, and in the process, sneeringly gives the finger to the congregations that support it."Does anyone know if this is truly happening now and is it worldwide.
If it is true, it is yet another indicator of how the society are desperately trying to save money at the congregations expense

Overlapping Generations
by elder-schmelder ini think that this explains it best !!.
one of the critical and most debatable assumptions we have maintained thus far in our arguments is the assumption of successive generations.
in other words, we have assumed that, every period, a new generation arises and the old one dies off.

All you have to do is show any person who knows nothing of the generation doctrine, and they will give the proper sensable meaning to the words Jesus said.
Remember the only reason we have the current meaning of generation is because all the societies other efforts failed miserably. And it only took them 130 years.

Are the Watchtower numbers right for membership?
by yalbmert99 inaccording to what appeared in written newspapers and that we can add up, the real number of people who assisted the summer district assemblies in the province of quebec, canada is : 13 500.. .
assembly at quebec city: 7000.
1st assembly at sherbrooke : 3500.

Remember too that many witnesses go to more than one assembly. One to work and one to listen to the crap (talks) So they are actually being counted twice. As has been said you really can't take their figures at face value.

Witnesses reach out to U S A immigrants
by alanv inas has been said recently by many in the know, the society are now targeting more and more immigrants who come to the usa.
sometimes helping them with the new language they need to learn.
these individuals then think how wonderful these people are to take the time and trouble to teach them a language.. little do they know what awaits them if they join the witnesses.. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2012327460_jehovahswitnesses11m.html.

It is very hard for you in this situation, but there comes a time when you can no loger live a lie. Although your daughters may like going to meetings now it's extremely likely they will leave as they get older (66% of those brought up as witnesses leave when they become adults)
Your husband almost certainly likes the power he has in the cong, but sooner or later he will hopefully see the double standards and hypocrisy that goes on in the org. I wish you well.

Did you ever voice disagreement at the Watchtower study?
by MrMonroe init was only after leaving that i realised just how absurd and inaccurate many of the statements in the wt study really are.
the tag-team application of "this generation" is a classic example.. i'm interested to know if anyone who was in "good standing" actually did speak up at a meeting and challenge what's in the study.
what was the reaction?.
-
alanv
There were certainly times that I really wanted to say something against a point that was being made.
However it is very hard to do that, for the moment you say anything in disagreement with the point being made, the whole congregation would be glaring at you for having doubted what 'God's org' was telling you. Even if you did muster up the courage to say something the WT study conductor would always say that we should speak about it privately at the end of the study.

What a messed up Cult the JW religion is
by Think About It ini'm reading coc for the first time.
a governing body that is suppose to be god's channel on earth and led by jehovah's holy spirit could not even change jw dogma even though the majority of those present voted for change.
there had to be a 2/3's vote of the total gb membership.
-
alanv
Hi think about it. You are right. It is a messed up religion. Crisis of Conscience has helped so many people on this and other sites. Ray Franz the author was able to tell it exactly as it was because of being on the governing body for 9 years.

Chosen in 1919, but they didn't realize it until 1929
by UnConfused inno, i don't have the wt articles at my fingertips.
it is the case though that it wasn't until 1929 that the wt changed their current understanding to be that they were inspected and selected in 1919 - 3 1/2 years after 1914 and christ's return to the throne.. .
wouldn't you think such an important event would have been revealed in a more obvious way?.
-
alanv
I may be wrong but I believe the society actually say that Jesus set up his heavenly kingdom in 1914, then 3.5 years later in 1918 he ressurected the anointed who had died up to that time. It was then in 1919 that he appointed the witnesses to proclaim the kingdom message in all the earth, choosing them and no one else.

Since 2003 that is a 2% increase. In reality it is a decrease, when you allow for the increased population in the U K over the past 7 years.
Anyone got the figures for U S A or any other country. It should make interesting reading.
