Ray Franz had the right idea. He new that many would not takehis word for it if he said something contraversial, so he made sure he told readers where they could go to check what he told them in his two books.

Is it normal to quote without naming the source like WT does?
by InterestedOne ini am noticing here and there that the wt literature will say things like "one bible dictionary says ..." or "one scholar says ..." and then proceed with a quotation.
my immediate reaction is to ask myself why they didn't provide the specific source of the quote - author, publication, page #, etc.
so i am wondering, do other magazines do this?

Interesting you tube video
by alanv inwatching this video left me wandering a bit iif a person is wrongly disfellowshipped for whatever reason and they appeal against it and are then reinstated, would the elders actually announce in the hall that so and so has been reinstated.
if that was so it would be pretty obvious to most people that the disfellowshipping decision was wrong, ie the elders made a mistake.
has anyone here ever had that happen at their kingdom hall in the past.

Thanks for that Boyzone. Did you mean they would not announce the original disfellowship decision, if the person concerned said they will appeal against it?

Did you ever know of a elder wanting montary comp for doing a sheparding visit?
by highdose ini knew an elder who would help and support those in the cong, but in return he expected some kind of compensation such as: goods brought for him or his family, services given for free etc.. this elder had a working class job but lived a very middle class life style because of this unspoken arrangement.
great holidays, new cars and his wife was very much the queen bee of the cong.
hardly wore the same thing twice and delighted in patronising the other sisters who she considered beaneath her.

Most elders really believe that they are doing what is required of them, so I think it would be very rare for one of them to want some reward

2011 Yearbook: Singing Praise to Jehovah
by pirata in2011 yearbook, singing praise to jehovah, p.17-21:.
singing songs of praise to jehovah is an integral part of our worship.
at the 2009 conventions, therefore, god's servants were overjoyed when they were told of a new songbook, sing to jehovah.

Can you believe it. Even their songs apparantly come from the gov. body. At least that is what they tell the sheep. I think in reality other ordinary JWs would do all the work and the old men would have given their blessing to it when it was finished.
They like to show that everything comes from the gov body, when in fact most time it comes from editorial staff

could i walk into a K/Hall and get literature?
by Aussie Oz injust wondering!.
i know many would say ''why the hell would you do that?".
just wondering if i could actually get hard copies of some stuff for a 'donation' and not have to hunt it down.... mind you, i'd have a hard time making myself look conservative!.

I supose you could do that. You would certainly need to have some balls to do it .Of course some literature is only for those in good standing.
So no study copy of Watchtower, Kingdom Ministry, or some of the other books that are just for JWs.
You could say that you already have the 2010 cd rom and the new elders book, as they are available online.
Can you imagine an elders face if you said that (hehe)

What I think the next move is...
by TheJigsUp ini'll keep it short.. you're no doubt aware of the 'if the gb say something that seems odd, just go along with it' thing.
and the 'do as the gb tell you!
dont doubt the gb!

Why would they say that? They have already said the anointed to not have any special insight. There view is keep at it until God intervenes.

Everything turns out the opposite to what they say
by alanv inwhen we were first introduced to the jws i'm sure like me you were very impressed by their claims.
things like.
1 god has a name.

When we were first introduced to the JWs I'm sure like me you were very impressed by their claims. Things like
1 God has a name
2 JWs are the only ones preaching throughout the whole world.
3 They show love to one another all the time
4 We are without doubt living in the last days
5 JWs base their religion totally on the bible
Now many of us are out of the religion I was wondering how you view those statements now.

As some have said before on this site, if future increase comes mainly from third world countries, the society will probably find less money coming in.
I believe it has started already
