Although many may get disfellowshipped for immorality, that is only because they no longer believe it is the truth, so they feel it is ok to continue in immorality. It is very unlikely that those that get kicked out for that still believe everything the gov body says is true. Otherwise they would be repentant and not get disfellowshipped.

Is the number of JWs leaving increasing?
by dozy ini don't mean jws getting stumbled or bored or getting dfd for immorality- there always have been a certain number of those all the time.. i've been out for a few years now but am curious to know from "still ins" if there is any evidence of increasing numbers of people leaving for classic "apostate" reasons - ie either fading or getting dfd because they have done research & realise that this isn't "the truth".. when i was a jw occasionally i would hear of someone suddenly stopping going to meetings & hearing through the grapevine & jw gossip mill that the person no longer believed it was the truth or had expressed doubts in the "slave" etc.
but it didn't happen very often ( though it was increasing somewhat in the years before i left).. one would imagine with the internet & increased information available to all that this would be happening more often.
any evidence of this , anecdotally?

Beards......the CO allowed this one!
by punkofnice ina minny man in a local congregation has a beard...he was bullied by the elders to remove it.. then the co came along and told the elders to allow him to keep his beard.
(not as the result of any skin condition or anything).. i kid you not!!!.
what do you make of that?.

The Watchtower is becoming much more mainstream now. The result is that some things are allowed and some are not.

Is sex abuse in the Wt that big of a problem
by joe134cd inbefore i start, i'm not a wt apologist and i am certainly not trying to minimise sex abuse.
i was looking at the amount of sex abuse cases in light of witness population.
just say wt ended up on paying out on 30,000 individual abuse cases.

It may well be the same percentage wise, but the problem is the Watchtower just do not admit there is even a slight problem. The pope came right out and admitted it, the governing body would never do that.

I believe the Watchtower can say all that was quoted earlier because they will just say the witness has decided themselves not to be a witness any more. So the Watchtower are not taking anything away or taking any action. They will simply say that the individual agreed to accept all the Watchtower doctrines at his or her baptism. If they later decide they dont want to any more, then that is their decision.
Very crafty of course but its hard to argue against that.

Interesting talk with an uber dub relative today
by joe134cd inmy relative asked me a question today of why half the witnesses in this country had to travel to the opposite end of the country to attend a convention, when in some areas it would of been closer to attend a convention that was only 3.5 hours up the road.
i replied by saying the society could be getting some sort of benefits if they can prove they can bring x amount of dollars into the city.
she replied by saying they would never do that.

Haha got to laugh when you say just three and a half hours up the road. I take it you are not in the UK where two hour travelling would be quite enough

Seriously considering stepping down as Elder
by fader77 ini have been an elder for 6 years.
it's been the last 2 years or so that i've really seen the hypocrisy, but the ability to know the shenanigans of the society through the body of elders letters has kind of kept me in there.
i'm to the point now that i can't stand the hatred and bitterness that the body of elders has towards myself and my whole family.

I stepped down from being a mini servant because I could see the next step would be for me to become an elder and like fader I just knew there was so much wrong in the org. In time I was able to fade and so was able to keep in touch with my JW family members. Best decision I ever made.

Wow the governing body are getting desperate. Just looked at the increase in regular pioneers and while the usa is quite impressive the high percentage increases in the smaller countries actually equates to most of them being under 10 extra people from each of those lands. Certainly nothing to shout about when you think there are 8 million JWs worldwide.

BBC Radio 4 reference to 607 Babylonian conquest?
by 88JM inwas listening to bbc radio 4 late sunday night, and in a programme about migration, they referenced the "babylonian conquest of jerusalem in 607 b.c.
" which caught my attention.. did they not mean 587 b.c., or did i understand it wrong?.
the link to the programme is below - sorry if you're not in the u.k. as you probably won't be able to listen to bbc programmes.

What has the WTS EVER "predicted" that has actually come true?
by integ inyou'd think they could point to something right?
obviously we're the one true religion".. i can't fathom how anyone of any intelligence would be willing to join up with this org after doing even rudimentary research.. for years they have taught that it's wrong to seek advanced education or to plan for a "worldly" future by trusting in this system of things and then this past sunday the watchtower article rips on people for not planning for the future in regard to their elderly relatives.
maybe if they hadn't been teaching for 100 yr's that the end was "just around the corner" and telling us we'd better believe that fact...or else, we would have planned better for a future that you said without reservation would not even occur.. what mind blowing prediction can they point to that would convince someone "oh yeah..these guys have it right"...?.

I used to be amazed at the way the 607 BCE doctrine ended with 1914 and the outbreak of world war one but see now that it was a wrong date they used. Also they said they predicted the rise of the United Nations but again that imformation was known by many not just the JWs.

some changes need to be made
by venting inbut im still in and on the fence.
" remember who owns the fence?".
shunning needs to be tempered.

Really dont know why you are on the fence venting, as clearly you can see how wrong the religion is. I was shunned yesterday by an elders wife, even though I have just faded because I disagreed with some of their doctrines.
