The whole praying for God's protection is a joke. Sometimes they are lucky and no one gets killed or injured, and other times many of them do. Has nothing whatsoever to do with prayer

Narrow mindedness annoying
by Lost in the fog innone of the brothers and sisters in indonesia were hurt or lost in the recent disaster, according to one of the friends who added "we were all praying for them as soon as we heard it on the news, as you do.
and what about the rest of the population?
i know its nothing new in their attitude to the world outside in general, but it makes me so angry!

Here's another subtle reverse-witnessing topic:
by neat blue dog inthe next time a jw brings up a natural disaster or severe weather event as proof of the last days, and they preface it by reciting a fact they heard on the news like, (just for the sake of example) 'it's the worst earthquake in 70 years' or 'the worst plague in 200' years', (you get the picture), then simply reply: "oh, so that means that ____ years ago there was one that was worse, right?".
i did this twice.
both times got the same response:.

Its a good point. Makes me laugh when the news item says something like its the hottest day for 10 years. OK so what?

Adding insult to injury when the WT kicks out a congregation from their hall
by nowwhat? innot only does the organization confiscate the hall the congregation owns.
but then the former congregants are told to continue to pay for utilities and they are still responsible for upkeep and maintenance.
so they still have to cut the grass etc.

Wow how can the jdubs not see how they are being completely scammed?

Yes these days they have no wish at all to speak to anyone who doesnt keep nodding with them in agreement. Once you start asking real questions, they no longer want to speak

Hi Tom, yes welcome to the forum. The whole idea of this forum is to discuss all things concerning JWs. So by all means join in on a discussion about the organisation and any of its doctrines.

Daniel Kokotajlo’s Apostasy enters UK Top 15 box office films
by steve2 infantastic news just in: daniel kokotajlo’s film apostasy about a jw family facing the blood issue and - ahem - a daughter who apostatises - was released late last week in the united kingdom.
even though it received limited release in its first weekend and is going to be in more cinemas this weekend, it has entered the top 15 films at no.
12 - a magnificent result for a highly acclaimed film made on a shoe string.

I paid £10 to see it on youtube, but It was only on there for 48 hours. I will be buying the dvd in September though. Unfortunately it is not being shown at any cinema near me in the UK.

Smart Phones and Tablets Turning JW's Into Dummies
by scotoma inlook up the article in the wall st journal "how smartphones hijack our minds".
a flood of evidence has come in that people are outsourcing their thinking to their electronic devices.
when you feel you will always be able to look up important information on your cell phone you simply don't remember it.

The main change in recent years in JW land is for members to stop trying to defend their faith by themselves, but rather to point people to the jw website. And certainly if they see that you are not going to accept their doctrines, they will immediately end the conversation.

On the reliability of the Watchtower
by Sergey Antonov inhello!
could you give a link to the articles of the watchtower society, where they claim that information from the faithful and prudent slave comes from god and jesus christ.
and also, that magazines publish not people's thoughts, but god?.
-

"It is vital that we appreciate this fact and respond to the directions of the "slave" as we would to the voice of God, because it is His provision." Watchtower 1957 Jun 15 p.370
"The Watchtower is not the instrument of any man or set of men, nor is it published according to the whims of men. No man's opinion is expressed in The Watchtower. God feeds his own people, and surely God uses those who love and serve him according to his own will. Those who oppose The Watchtower are not capable of discerning the truth that God is giving to the children of his organization, and this is the very strongest proof that such opposers are not of God's organization." Watchtower 1931 Nov 1 p.327

over 700 baptized yesterday at one convention in Africa
by dropoffyourkeylee inthere was a french language congregation this weekend in congo dr which had 44,000 in attendance and something like 730 baptized.
i'm not saying that is good or bad, just reporting the news..

They do very occasionally have a quiet baptism, but only on very rare occasions. Watchtower like a public baptism, because it shows that people are joining the org. If someone was so disabled that a public baptism would be impossible then it could take place somewhere else, like a private home.

Much of Africa still has bad internet connection. Because of this those countries show the highest percentage rises in JW members. In countries where there is good internet connection, JWs have very little increase, in fact many of those lands are now losing more members each year than come into the org.
