Why oh why do those in authority at the Watchtower say something is from Jehovah. The governing body say repeatedly that they are not inspired so why can't they simply say something honest like 'We think it would be a good idea if you used this extra time for personal study'. The reason is of course that witnesses may do something different that they think is important. You would never believe that when they finally get baptised they have to have their hand held for practically every thing that they do. Thank goodness I am out of it.

If its not the way. Which way is?
by maryacclaim ini read a lot of the topics and subjects in this forum, and can't help but to ask, if the witnesses ideas are not the way, then which way is?.
i was a witness for over 25 years and have been out of the organization for over 3 years now.
yet, i have a hard time seeing anyone else's way as the right way to go.

Hi Mary, First thing to say is that you have taken the first step and got out of an organisation that shows love but only to those who totally adhere to the orgs. ideas. The moment you disagree with anything that love suddenly is gone. It is a totally conditional love. I agree with you that there are some people that need to be expelled, but the vast majority are ones who simply cannot agree with the orgs teachings.
Personally I have not found any other religeon that makes sense but I know there are plenty on this board that have.
I hope you find what you are looking for, just make sure you don't go back to this destructive cult.

What Advice Would You Give To Anyone Who's Thinking Of Going Back To The Witnesses?
by minimus inwhen certain old friends love bomb you or try to make you think of the "good old days", what do you suggest to help them appreciate the reality of things?.

I'm sure many of us have had witnesses say to us 'Why dont you come back' and I always remember one person who new I disagreed with some of the things taught by the Borg, completely blanking me even though I have only faded. That reminded me that the love shown is totally dependant on you toeing the line. If you dare to disagree with anything the gov. body says that is the end of their love for you.

Question about Prodigal Son parable
by tsar_robles inwell, after much thought put into it i decided to send a letter requesting reinstatement.
i met with the jc and tried to reason with them on the prodigal son parable... how the father in this parable did not put his son through a waiting or probationary period, etc but rather embraced him on the spot... their answer was that the 'walk' to his father's home represents meeting attendance... in other words, the 'works' that befit repentance... any ideas???.
i reminded them that in the last 3 years i've attempted to attend the meetings and yet the anxiety that developed brought me tangible unknown illnesses and symptoms that were unbearable and thus had to stop attending... i was told that i had to find a way to make meetings though; that i'd not die because of that.... i was asked how long did i attend meetings in my last attempt and i said about 4 months... "well, that's about 48 meetings... so say you went to 30 meetings..." i said: "no, i hardly missed any meetings and when i did i made sure the p.0.

The fact that you are on this board shows you must be aware of what goes on at the Watchtower. There is no doubt that many of the rank and file are 'nice' people but they have to do exactly what they are told as a previous poster wrote. This organisation has got practically everything of any importance wrong in the past and they continue to expell anyone who dares disagree with them. Surely this shows us that they are a very far cry from the love and truth that Jesus taught us. Sorry to be so frank but we are are talking about how you want to spend the rest of your life here.

I was looking through Friends United and to my surprise I found an old girlfriend who used to be a witness.
We have been e-mailing each other for a couple of months purely as old friends and I was pleased to hear that she and her brother are now both out of the borg.

X-Witnesses and Faders - have you had a help them return visit yet?
by eyeslice inwith the watchtower study about helping 'lost sheep' return, i have been half expecting a visit.
i have mentally rehearsed how i should handle the situation, which is fairly tricky as i still have family in.
but no call yet.

I too have family in the borg and so far my fade has been successful. If I did get a call from the elders there is nothing I would like more than to tell them all the things I have learned about the Watchtower and it's governing body since leaving. However I realize I would immediately be dis fellowshipped for rejecting 'Jehovah's arrangement' so I won't do that as it would make it so hard to talk to my witnee son.
So how about if I said when asked what I think of the governing body, I say, I think they are trying very hard to do the right thing but unfortunately they have made some errors along the way. Of course nobody's perfect and they do mean well. I will be back as soon as they have got everything straight.
That way I feel I am not having a go at them and most elders would admit there has been some errors along the way. If all else fails I could simply say I am too spiritually sick to come back at the moment but thanks for the call.
What do you guys think? Would it work?

Another non biblical practice by Jehovah's witnesses
by excito-are inmatthew 10.8 speaks about the preaching work and states " you received free, give free".
the society no longer charges for the magazines, but should witnesses still accept contributions from householders?
does this not conflict with the bible?
-
alanv
Although at first it looks wrong, Jesus was actually talking about giving the message free. Logically if you provide something extra to someone and that has cost you money there is nothing wrong with charging that person what it has cost you.
What is wrong is the profit the society seems to make by receiving money from the publisher when they pick up the mags, and then money again if the householder gives a contribution.
Also some of the suggested contributions are way in excess of what it has cost the society like CDs or doluxe bibles. The cost should not be compared to industry where they have skilled workers to pay. That is where it is wrong.

Statistical evidence against WTS fulfillment of Mat24:14. Simple argument.
by Awakened at Gilead injehovahs witnesses are proud to point out that they are fulfilling the prophecy at matthew 24:14. jws are quick to point out that part of the purpose of the preaching work is so that jehovah can take note of how people respond to the witnessing, and thus can decide if they are worthy of survival or not.
last year, jws spent 1.4 billion hours in their preaching work.
so if we take: 6.6 billion people.

One other figure you can put in the equation is the fact that most witnesses work in pairs so you can half the number of hours that your working out as come up with. It's amazing that when you break it down as we have done the witnesses actually spend very very little time speaking to people.

Why there will always be Jehovah's Witnesses.
by TooBad TooSad inthere will always be jehovah's witnesses because:.
1. there will always be people who can not think for themselves.. 2. there will always be people who need to be told how to dress, what to do on vacation, what.
to do on the weekends, how much education you should have, and what married couples can do in bed.. 3. there will always be people who are willing to put thier lives on hold as they wait for better times.. 4. there will always be people who, because they can not make a decision, enjoy being told what.

I'd say you really hit the nail on the head. There are as you say many who really need someone else to make their decisions for them. They are and will always be spiritual babes.
There are also as you say many who have just been totally misled, but now with the imfo. that is available to all on the internet have a real chance of making a life for themselves apart from the Watchtower.
It is with sites like this one that we can all help these individuals.
