Occasionally. The first six months that I started questioning I was very scared that if the big A came I was going to be the only one in my family who died. But as I learned more about the history of the watchtower, the UN, and 587, the fear has faded. The more I learn the less I worry. I know in my heart there is no way that "the truth" is the truth. It just takes time. The truth will set you free.

7. Anyone who does not trust firmly in Jehovah might think differently. The
majority of humans view material wealth as a major key to security. Hence,
parents have encouraged their offspring to invest much of their young adulthood
in higher education, hoping that it will prepare them for well-paying careers.
Sadly, some Christian families have found the cost of such an investment to be
very high, as their children have lost their spiritual focus and turned to
pursuing materialistic goals. They don't even try to justify their anti-college views with a scripture. I don't know how I ever stomached these manipulative articles.
I can't wait to sit through a paragraph about how people who go to college don't trust in Jehovah, while everyone looks at me.
Great job Blondie!

How many here used to attend meetings un prepared?
by JH inon sundays, i hardly ever read my watchtower.
i would take 2 minutes to underline here and there just to look good.
if i wanted to make a comment at the watchtower study , i'd read 1 or 2 paragraphs and answer the question related to those paragraphs, that's it.

I haven't prepared since I was little and I studied with my parents. I always underline a few sentences in the wt or the whatever BS book we are on so I look like a good witness. I usually just read scriptures for my answers, that takes no preparation. I don't think I've ever really read the KM.

*Sigh* ; I have 3 boxes of stuff hidden in the back of my closet full of "worldly stuff" ; Ray's book, RPG games (Ooooh D&D, so evil.... ; Oooh), The Lord of the Rings and other fantasy novels, Anime (violence, magic, revealing outfits, etc...) ; and live in constant fear of being discovered.
I'm with you there Shador.
hang in there and welcome to the board.

I'm in because of my family. I still live with my parents so right now I don't have a choice. Their house, their rules. I attend most meetings except when I'm "sick" or have "homework" which happens rather frequently. Actually except for the college deal, most would consider me to be pretty strong. It makes me rather sick.

WOW! I just went out and got my newspaper. I live in a small town and the newspaper usually just does local news. I couldn't believe it! The article was in there! If it's in my paper it has to be in most major newspapers. I have to admit, I didn't think the BIG NEWS was all that big, I'm glad I was wrong.

Question for JWs still on the "inside":
by Hellrider injust a question: if you are still jws (for any reason, many just can`t leave because their entire families are wrapped around it, etc), but don`t believe in it, and lead a "double life", how do you cope with going door to door?
i just can`t imagine how it must feel like to go out there and try to tell people at the doors or in the streets things you know are just bs!
how do you deal with that?
-
Collegegurl
It is tough. I usually go to the door by myself. I knock lightly and pray that no one comes and leave quickly. If they do come I just leave the magazines with a very very brief presentation and never return.

What is your rating?
by billyboy inas a bit of a newbie , i'm interested as to the overall viewpoint of site users and spectrum of views.. using a crude gauge , where 1 = completely convinced "stepford"jw ("jhs organisation is wonderful etc") and 10 is a completely rabid "tear down the tower" apostate/ex-witness pathalogically hating the whole jw structure , where do you fit in?
(apolgies to both groups - no offense intended).. i'm about 2.5 - somewhat disillusioned , keen for reforms in certain areas but broadly accepts the teachings and loves the lifestyle.
would never leave.

probably a 5 or 6. I don't believe any of their teachings and would like to help my family out, but I won't be actively fighting the org. I wouldn't shed any tears if they collapsed either.

Quotes from "Clothe Yoursleves With The New Personality" Assembly
by Inquisitor in"i use my time wisely by not spending it with my worldly friends..." and so you chose to spend it with people who devised rules that shut up their female members (with the exception of elders' wives who are skilled manipulators of men and power), ban moustaches and beards (for men too) and frown on higher education.
wise indeed!.
"we cannot find such joy (construction of new kingdom halls) in the jobs that we do in the world..." never had a fat paycheck waved in your face, have you?.
-
Collegegurl
Oh no! I have to attend this assembly soon. I don't think I can take any more college bashing. To sit there and clap, take notes and smile is more than I think I can stand. I just hope I'm not sitting close to any elders who will stare at me the entire time ( they stare at me any time college is mention.) To be honest I'm not sure my jw parents will sit through too much more of that, perhaps this will help them see the light.
