Could you tell me in what ways the WTS is much like those that they believe are wrong? (Example: Mormons believe Jesus is an angel; WT belive Jesus is Michael the Archangel.) I'm interested in seeing comparisons to Catholic, Mormon, Moonies, etc...whatever. Compare they to Amway! I would like to see in what ways they are alike, even though they feel unique and exclusive, for having the same doctrines or practices as others.

To Those Who 'Believe' In 'Jesus'.
by SpannerintheWorks in.
tell me, what is it that happens to you when you ' know' you have the 'holy spirit'?

Have you ever noticed that the Holy Spirit is compared to a dove in the Bible? Not a pigeon, but a dove. Pigeon religion: pigeons will nest in any noisy, filthy, crowded, place they can find. Doves: will only nest where it is clean, quiet, and peaceful. When my life is full of un-repentant sin and chaos, and I am unforgiving and beligerent toward others, I cannot experience the presence of the Holy Spirit, until I clean up my heart. The Holy Spirit, in my life, is not a loud, charismatic "show". He is a gentle guiding Spirit that quietly leads me to inner peace. When I am still and listen, I know what is expected of me, and I also know that I have the freedom to obey, or not. It's my choice. The Holy Spirit is peaceful and quiet. And you will know when you have Him working in your heart.

THE GOVERMENT AND SHUNNING.....
by Mary inafter reading the tragedy of puternut, i was thinking that perhaps it's time that the government took another look at what can happen when they allow religions like the jws, to cut off family members without a second thought.
surely someone's rights to have normal religions with their family should come before freedom of religion.
isn't it ironic that the gb fought so hard in court to obtain freedom of religion, yet their own members commit suicide when they try to express this very right.

It seems that they could make a stipulation in the law books, that if your organization is actively seeking converts and is approaching them at their homes, you should be REQUIRED to give them a detailed description of what your beliefs are and what would be required of YOU, should you decide to join this particular religion. Including the differences between this religion and other Christian faiths. NOTHING hidden, so you know right off the bat who's knocking! Afterall, people who are approached on their OWN doorsteps, deserve to know up front what is going to be expected of them, don't you think? Many of the JWs I have encountered, don't even want to tell you what organization they are with, until you commit to something with them. And they definitely do not disclose that they are planning a DOCTRINE study, in place of what they originally said was going to be a Bible study. That is misleading and a lot of people would put up some red flags, if they knew what was going on from the beginning! One couple also blatantly lied to me about where they lived and their last name! I believe the WT should also be required to provide a police back-ground check on each of the individuals conducting these study sessions, before they are allowed in homes of people who may have children or single women. You should be able to know their names, addresses, and phone numbers, before they even start their first sentence about the kingdom, etc...on your doorstep. In this day and age, it should be required of any religion that expects to be allowed to approach the homes of stangers unannounced.

Educating yourself with as much information as you can, is a great start. Toxic Faith is a terrific book that does not mention any particular religions. You may even be able to get your wife to read that one, since it doesn't criticize the WT. Maybe you could study up, find areas that you can use in their own version of the Bible, to show that what they say "doesn't really make sense". Then ask if she can explain it to you. But don't do it in a critical, or snide way. And do not pressure her. If she ends up not answering you, then let it go. She WILL think about it. And you must realize that this could take a LONG time for her to work through. Educating your kids about what their Mom is going through might help them also. Don't tease her or critisize her, or the WT. Let her know that you think she is smart and honest. Allow her to make the decision on her own. "Love-bomb" her at home, so that she would rather be with you than at the KH. She is probably going through some depression issues. Maybe even suggest reading the Bible together, WITHOUT any other materials. Start in the New Testament first. It could be that as you go through Romans, Galatians, etc.... she will see that there are things that just do not coincide with what she has been taught. And you can learn the questions to ask from particular verses as you go along. And PRAY!!!!!! And I will be praying that your wife will break the bonds of this mind control that she is under. Have faith. It WILL happen.

Where the KIT and NWT differ (Jn 14:14). Do you have more?!
by whyizit ini have a 1985 edition of the kit and have heard that there are many places that the nwt was translated erroneously and that it can be proven by this.
john 14:14 is one of the places i have found to support this.
can you show me other others?

When was the last time a witness knocked at your door as a friend, not FS?
by JH in.
although i've been bapized back in 1988, and never was disfellowshipped, the last time a jw came over here as a friend, was about 15 years ago.
oh, and i'm not shunned..... the only witnesses who knocked on my door in the last 15 years, were elders, in "uniform" in the field service.. now, imagine if i was really shunned......

We had a JW couple that spent 6 months, trying to show us how they had the "truth" and all the answers. (Of course, we already knew quite a bit about the org. and we had our questions lined up.) The gentleman had many instances of a light bulb going off in his head, but it wasn't until his wife, a chatty lady, had the light bulb go off in her's, that they were told to discontinue our study sessions. I imagine she went back to the KH and yakked about the experience a little too much. However, they told us they would still like to be friends and we could still get together for dinner, etc... We called them to see if they would like to, figuring they would turn us down......but they DID go with us! We had a great time. And do you know what?! They did not talk about Jehovah or the brothers and sisters at all! They talked about their families, their interests, etc... It was great! I pray they find freedom one day.

Survey: Out of all the doors you went to, how many asked..............
by whyizit incould you estimate how many doors you went to within a year's time, what percentage claimed to be christians, and how many asked good thought-provoking questions?
questions that made you really think and wonder if something was not quite right with the wt.
how important do you think it would be in the lives of jws to have this happen on a more regular basis?

What do your kids say about shunning? Let's get a list going
by AlmostAtheist ini talked to zachary (my 7-year-old) about shunning.
i brought it up out of the blue, in the hopes of getting his real thoughts and not leading him into anything.. me: "hey zach.
if god told you to never talk to me again, what would you do?".

My son (9yrs.) said:
"That is mean and it goes against what God says. He says to honor your parents. Any one who says God wants us to do that, is a liar. I would never do that."

The NWT and marshmallow--what is the WT excuse for that one?
by whyizit injob 6:6- will tasteless things be eaten without salt, or is there any taste in the slimy juice of marshmallow?.
hmmm........marshmallow has slimy juice?
wouldn't it taste kind of "sweet"?
-

But, does it fit this Scripture? Is it TASTELESS, like the white of an egg? From the above description of what marsh mallow is, it would appear that marshmallow would be a poor choice, when egg white makes much more sense. I just wondered how many JWs have ever been asked about it!
