It's my understanding that JW's believe in 3 returns of Christ. They say returned in 1914, then 1918 to inspect the "temple class," then he'll return yet again at some future date, "very soon now".

WHY THE MEMORIAL?
by hamsterbait inaccording to christs words at the last supper, his followers were to "keep doing this in remembrance of me" but st paul says that by taking the emblems we are declaring the death of our lord "until he arrives".. the greatest man book (i've been looking at it) says the "arrival of the son of man, jesus christ, with the angels must be invisible to human eyes.
the arrival occurs in the year 1914.
if the gb really believe this why are they still doing the memorial road show?.

JW’s DO celebrate birthdays, that is they celebrate the actual birth of a child with a "birthday shower." Think about it! Although it is celebrated prior or just after the actual birth of the child, obviously the celebration is centered on the actual birth of the child. Presents are usually given, yes? -- Often this is includes a meal with family and friends. And oh-my, isn't cake normally served!
Somehow, if this same celebration is repeated a year later, it is considered such an egregious act against God that judicial action is a certainty, with a possible "stoning" (by DF’ing) of those that participated. Makes perfect sense to me! – NOT!!!!

Is the UN still an issue with the JWs?

i've mentioned the duplicity to several active jw's (i.e., their becoming "associates" and "partners" as an "ngo") and they're very defensive, regardless of the evidence.
has anyone made any inroads in removing the thick "scales" of unquestioning devotion to the "organization" due to the un issue?

You mention in one of your comments that you’re on medication for depression. That’s okay my friend, nothing wrong with that, but I worry about you that your current situation may lead to deeper depression than your current medication may not be able to counter. If you find yourself in that situation, please seek out medical help, friends, and family that you can still talk to. "EvilForce" is a doctor, and I’m sure he would be willing to give advice if you PM him. And of course, a lot of us old timers are here for you too; we’d be willing to listen to whatever problems, sorrows, and confusion you have. You’re not alone my friend. You’ve been in a cult religion that can cause so much harm and mental-trauma, but you’re a survivor—good for you!

I’ve met a lot of really nice folks here on this board that I’ve later been able to have helpful, encouraging conversations over the phone. What musical instrument do you play?
by anewme ini spent many many years peforming on the cello before becoming a witness at 18 and being encouraged to quit all my symphony associations etc which i obediently did.
i was a soloist once with a community symphony and it was a wonderful experience!
i have a recording of the concerto i performed.

Piano, saxophone, and trumpet! At present mostly classical piano. I sure wish you were here in Hawaii, because I'm trying to find someone that plays the cello to accompany me on piano for Rachmaninoff’s Sonata in G minor, Op. 19. I’m sure you’re aware of this wonderful piece of music.

Are JW's Self-righteous?
by Honesty ina good friend who is a police officer told me last night that he believes a lot of the jw's he has met through the years in his line of work are extremely self-righteous.
i didn't have much of a reply but it did get me thinking about what he said.

Well, do bears crap in the woods? Sorry, you hit a sore spot with me because my brother no longer talks to me because of his own self-righteousness. It is fundamental characteristic of the JW-cult I’m afraid. Almost every publication of the "SLAVE" promotes the idea that JW’s are better than anyone else on earth!

The time periods of Daniel
by Leolaia inone of the most perplexing puzzles of daniel is the differing way the author referred to the length of time the rebuilt temple would be defiled during the persecution of antiochus epiphanes iv (175-163 bc).
historically, the period is known with some precision; the heathen altar (the "abomination of desolation" of daniel and 1 maccabees) was installed on 15 chislev 167 bc and the temple was rededicated on 25 chislev 164 bc -- a period of almost exactly 3 years (1 maccabees 1:57, 4:52).

On Freeing Minds: How do you know when you have scored a hit?

In most cases, it is a very long process, and at times, hard to gage the actual power the “real truth” can have on people. I’m trying every day to help the JW-oppressed get a release from the prison-like system they are in. However, at times, trying to pull the extremely thick scales on their “eyes” is so extremely hard to do; most have extreme pain in the process, especially if they’ve been in the JW structure their whole life! However, I’m trying not to despair! Incrementally, inch-by-inch, month-by-month, year-by-year, I press on. I feel that I’m now on a “life-saving” work, that I can’t imagine turning aside from. The fervor that I once applied to preaching the Watchtower “kingdom,” I now am moved even more to help free the “slaves” from the prison-like system that I was once in. Therefore, no matter how long it takes, I’m willing to continue to “educate, educate, educate” about the false JW “kingdom,” and the fake “organization!”
