Good point Blondie! When I was in Brooklyn Bethel (circa 1979), I recall a young brother at my “table” expressing his guilt at going to a Thanksgiving Dinner, where the wife was an active JW, but husband was not. Anyway, he said he still went and the food was great! I was jealous!

How many JWs do you know do the turkey-thing (Thanksgiving) each year?
by cyberguy inits amazing how jws operate.
when i was an active jw in florida (usa), many jw families had a turkey dinner with friends and family on thanksgiving day!
in fact, a number of elders participated in these family get-togethers, they just happened to have a turkey dinner on the same day as the thanksgiving holiday (usa).

Territory coverage in Hawaii?
by Gregor ini remember hearing years ago that there were so many witnesses in the islands that territories were being covered twice a month!
can anyone confirm this?
what is the current saturation?

I live in Hawaii, although work in Florida from time-to-time, and no, the territory is "worked" about twice per year in most congregations. There may be a few congregations in some dense areas where it is different, but where I live, it was common for the CO to complain that some territories were only being worked once per year. I think what happens is that the locals avoid affluent areas, because they get the door slammed in their face, or rather, people don’t answer the door. And most JW’s (when I was an active elder here in Hawaii), simply ride-around for hours in a van, talking rarely if at all. Most JW’s here in Hawaii, only have a few they call on and avoid the door-to-door “work” as much as possible.

In fact, a number of elders participated in these family get-togethers, they just happened to have a turkey dinner on the same day as the Thanksgiving Holiday (USA). Of the few meals I got invited to over the years, there was plenty of justification. “The turkey was on sale,” was a common statement! "We can't it go bad, and must cook it on this day!" Christmas is another holiday celebrated on the sly. I would often get “friendship” cards form JW’s around Christmas time! Funny isn't it?

first my reaction was that i was not interested and i let them know.
that as i was closing the door.. however, after i closed the door it dawned on me to question them.

The Wanderer – thanks for sharing!
It’s amazing that someone in the group actually knew about it! As far as WT sending out information about their involvement, I doubt very much that has happened. Did you show them the letter from the UN web site regarding WT and UN? Please let us know if they return with an explanation.

transcript of a disfellowship appeal meeting -they can get you for anything
by jwfacts ini have just received the transcript of the disfellowship appeal meeting from a person i know from a recording he took.
it is quite typical in the condescension of the elders.
unfortunately he did not record the initial meeting.

Jwfacts,
Thanks for sharing this. As a former elder for many years I saw the abuse first hand! Unfortunately, this abuse is more the rule than the exception! I’m sure these guys see nothing wrong with their actions. What Ray Franz brought out in his books is so true. Most JW elders, individually, would never harshly treat people the way a group of them will. There’s a type of group-think that takes place, which creates arrogance and bullying to an extreme. Under these conditions, these men get an erection-of -authority that must be a real brain-rush of endorphins. It’s so sad!

What is the real reason behind the WTS' move out of Brooklyn?
by Lady Lee inthere have been several discussions about the wts and their selling off properties in brooklyn and moving headquarters out of nyc.
the best of... wts finances.
why the wts is selling their assets.

They sell real estate because they can! And because they bought many premium properties when they were cheap (from today’s prices), they no doubt figured that after they improve the property (by using free JW-labor of course) they’ll make a killing (I'm not sure they are that smart, but gambled)! It’s all planned! I don’t believe they really believe in a God (or a higher power mightier than they are), other than the Almightily Dollar God! These terrible controllers of authority have NO values! And they have absolutely no concern for the small throng of supporters (that live from pay-check to pay-check) they rule over! It’s so sad! Very sad! :(

You're right, OnTheWayOut! It is a cult! Although Ray Franz didn't go as far in his books, I agree with you 100%, although not reading the book you reference!

If You Don't Believe In Jehovah's Organization You Can't Believe In Jehovah
by minimus inso said my brother to my mother the other day while she was in the hospital.
he asked her why i wasn't coming back to the "truth".
she suggested that i wanted to enjoy a worldly life of fun.

Hey Min,
You should ask your family to show you the scriptural basis for their beliefs. Where does it say “Truth” = “God and his Organization?”
