  i've been visiting this forum for quite awhile now, reading as much as i can about others in situations similar to mine.

  i've learned alot but i think i am ready to share and will really appreciate whatever advice/thoughts anyone has to offer.. i'm a "wordly" gal (non-demoninational christian) and have been dating a jw for a year.

  he has been a witness for about 34 yrs but has been inactive the past two due to the way he and his ex were treated when she was df'd for cheating/alcoholism.

  I have come to the reluctant conclusion that the brainwashing (unless erased by pure logic) is stronger than any human emotion - including love between man and woman.

  I agree with James.

  In the JW cult, the member is expected to sacrifice their children or themselves instead of authorizing a life saving medical treatment involving blood.(the jw blood doctrine limits the type of medical care a member can receive)

  In the JW cult, families are destroyed forever because of their shunning policies(disfellowshipping and disassociation)

  Indoctrination and mind control are the tools used to control people in such a way that their behavior becomes completely unnatural and potentially deadly.

  It's just not worth it to knowingly involve yourself in any of this.

  I've been thinking about my own circumstances of being with a jw wife(she's mostly inactive now and I'm 100% inactive). I realized a couple of years ago that by choosing to marry my current wife I had consciously or subconsciously decided that she was the best I could do. I basically settled and felt that I could not find anyone better.

  Instead of having a healthy self esteem and self worth and realizing that I could make a better decision, I instead chose a path of pain and suffering. I could have done so much better, I just didn't believe it at the time.

  I made the decision to marry a member of a dangerous mind control cult. We now have a child together. The list of potential and real issues are endless.

  So I must ask: Is this guy the best that you can do? Are you unable to find someone who is not affiliated with a dangerous mind control cult? There's billions of people on this planet. I'm positive you can find a healthier person to share your life with. I know it would hurt to end this relationship, but trust me, the pain of staying in the relationship long term far exceeds any sad emotions of ending it.

  Walk-away believers(the term used to describe people who are inactive yet believing jws) can be more fanatical than active cult members. Maybe you should take his cue and walk away.

  Hi Dawn,

  Ultimately the decision to stay or leave is up to you. As long as you recognize that his mind belongs to a cult, then you can decide if the subsequent problems and strain on the relationship will be worth the effort.

  Has anyone left still believing it was the truth?

  it seems that most xjws have left because at one point in their jw life something happened that made them start to think something wasn't right with the religion.

  when i left, i still believed the jws had "the truth".

  i was dying inside, trapped and unhappy (another poster's words, but describes exactly how i felt).

  It seems like the break-point is the term “cult”.

  I can't speak for others, but for me, my mind didn't become totally free until I recognized that the JWs are a cult. I had been inactive for quite some time, yet still had the same fears and indoctrination keeping an iron grip on me.

  An old time poster here coined the term "walkaway believer". That's exactly what I was despite being inactive. I still believed. I just didn't want any part of it.

  this has probably been discussed here before, but i'm new so sue me.. i think the religion of jehovah's witnesses has been an amazing but tragic social experiment proving that the mind is most vulnerable to brainwashing when it's in an unhealthy state.

  it seems to attract the bipolar, schizophrenic, depressive, and the paranoid.

  it preys on negative emotions like sorrow and fear.

  firstly a wedding/sales talk that mostly features heavily on how the woman should behave (hint, doormat) and lightly brushes over the fact of the husbands bevhaviour ( oh yeah he should treat her well).

  the reception normaly at some crummy comunity hall with yellowed ceilings and chucks of damp plaster falling off the walls.

  the seats normaly arranged facing eachother all around the edge, so that theres a huge unused space in the middle and everyone is climbing over everyone elses legs to get to their chair.. a big spread donated by everyone, normaly an ode to food poisoning.

  For my wedding, I refused to have it in the kingdom hall. Instead, my wife and I had our wedding on the shores of Lake Superior. The ceremony was on the beach, and the dinner party was in a lodge/restaurant within walking distance of the beach.

  That last video made me cry. That's how weddngs ahould be; a happy expression of the bride and groom, their family and their friends!

  it's a pretty polarizing statement.

  either you are in the "truth" and the light of the organization or you are a satan worshipper.. i guess i now realize who the statement "having no natural effection" applies to.. sheesh....

  Find an old enough JW, and they'll still be dead set against vaccines

  Here in Southern california, I know some witnesses in their 30s and 40s that are dead set against all vaccines. Their children have not received even one vaccine shot in their young lives. I'm not sure how their kids are allowed into the school system. I believe they can use their religious beliefs as a way to circumvent the vaccine requirements.

  i don't know where i'm going to land and if i had to look back and think i didn't go... well, i would feel awful..
