i can't find the quote for this but i remember being told that jw children were way ahead of their classmates when it came to reading and spelling.
both my daughters knew how to read before they got to school.. i remember writing school reports and using the awake!

I really grew tired of the WTS concept that witness children were better educated. One sister that I grew up with learned to read quite well by 4 years of age. Everyone in the
congregation gave praise and credit to the WTS for this accomplishment. I must say, that really bothered me, cuz in reality, this 4 year old sister should have been recognized
for her intelligence and skill level, but no, it was all about the WT corp. Why not also give some credit to her parents for working with her and teaching her to read at such a young
age? Nope,, it's all about the WT corp. Oh, and one last thing, this same sister,, she's still very intelligent, but she's wasting her abilities as a pioneer. :(

a greater number of people are in it just for the social benefits, like having help with moving (I got suckered into that a number of times) or knowing someone who'll do a job real cheaply etc.
That's what I really detested about going to the meetings. Being one of the few skilled 'brothers' at the KH, everyone would try and hit me up to do them favors.

weird feeling every time I drive past it. It brings back all these strange memories of growing up and believe the end would come within 80 years of the 1914 date.
What is your experience/reaction when you stumble across an address or anything that has 1914 on it? Or am I the only one this has happened to?

i live in wa, so i feel obligated to root for the seahawks as well.. happy football,.

On a side note: I'm have a hard time watching this game as I have always been a big fan of both the broncos and the steelers. I guess either way, I can enjoy the outcome of the
game. I'd love to see the steelers in the big game so that bettis can retire on a high note.

In most cases the lies won't affect your reinstatement, cuz the elders involved will only be concerned about whether or not you have repented and no longer lead a lifestyle that
caused you to be df'd,, however on the flip side,, because of all the lies, rumors, etc, the r/f and will always view you according to those lies not according to what really happened.
Though we are told to forgive and forget, in actual practice those that heard the lies and rumors will always consider you 'marked' in some form or another.
But what else should we expect? The JW lifestyle is so unfullfiling, boring, repressive, therfore the general jw public grasps onto these rumors with full might so as to attain some
excitement in their lives. There's nothing more exciting to the brothers and sisters than to 'talk' about so and so and what that person did.

and what other measures can be taken against a jw who does something the elders dissapprove of, short of disfellowshipping?.
(this may sound like a dumb question but i was never a jw)
They'll even take away priviledges without telling you. For instance I was heavily involved with 'running the microphones' at one of my older congregations years ago. I'm not sure what
I did, it could have been my preaching hours were a bit under the average, but still at 8,, or that at the time I was dating someone(an active witness) that the elders didn't like and sure
enough my name disappeared from the 'microphone schedule' When I asked about it, no answer was given other than that of no longer needing me to help out. I didn't buy that answer
cuz we were a bit understaffed for the mics.
