Depends with whom I am conversing. And my mood. And the topic at hand. Some people think I'm like a mouse. Others think I'm loud and boisterous. Ah it's nice not to fit any one particular profile.

1990, which I think was the year Steve Austin was made faster, stronger........ I like my age. I have memories of the "70s, grew up in the wonderfully decadent '80s, loathed the grunge area with an air of self-dignity, giggled at late-'90s "'70s retro" and now I'm at the age where I can get away with just about anything stylishtically. After all, isn't that what half of the high school experience is all about - self-defining style?

Giving up drinking...........
by vitty in..............the tread about giving up smoking, made me think.
they usually can give you a time scale of how long it takes to give up smoking, i know its different for everyone, but usually 6 weeks and youve cracked it, 3 months and you hardly think about it.. what about drinking, is there a yard stick of how long it takes you to break the addiction.
ive decided to stop for a month, they reckon its a good test.. ive stopped drinking during the week( about 3 months ) and drink only fridays and saturdays, but i must admit by thursday im really chomping on the bit for a glass of wine.. so this week will be my first dry weekend for about 10 years, im excited but also worried that i cant do it.. the problem is i associate drinking wine, with relaxing and welcoming the weekend.. .

I used to live my days in anticipation of getting drunk. Timing things I had to do around pounding 8 beers and getting a nap. An average week of drinking for me would be a couple litres of either Southern Comfort or Black Velvet, and 80-90 5.6% alcohol beers.
Then I found out I needed open heart surgery, pronto.
That was good incentive to quit drinking, and today I have MAYBE a total of 12 ounces of beer a month. I usually take a few sips and blahhhhhhhhhh. I dunno, I guess it was easy for me to quit. Going on an SSRI might have helped too (I went on Paxil and am on Lexapro now).
I have friends who still get bombed. I was at some friends' house the other day, I called over there at 10 in the morning, the one guy who answered the phone insisted I come over and if I wasn't there in 15 minutes he'd come get me. I said uhhhh no way you're driving, I'll be over. 45 minutes later without any warning he passed out in his chair and everyone else went to bed. I'm glad I'm not like that anymore, but I don't judge, and I can easily walk into a bar and drink Pepsi all night. Food tastes better. My cholesterol is way down and my liver enzymes went back to normal. I dunno, I guess I'm lucky.
Giving up PAINKILLERS is something else entirely............ but we won't go off topic. :)

I always liked Holly Hunter as an actress. I'm old enough to have a 13 year old kid. Are modern-day families/divorced families as messed up as this late-night Showtime film portrays? Or were we as kids that messed up but not so bold about it?

Evolutionary establishment tactics
by hooberus inwednesday evenings (august 24th) fox news program "the oreilly factor" featured an interview life after "intelligent design" with dr. richard sternberg, editor, of the peer-reviewed journal "proceedings of the biological society of washington.
" dr. sternberg's home page discusses the recriminations he faced by certain members of the evolutionary establishment after publishing an arcticle by another person advocating the possibilty of intelligent design in the peer reviewed journal.

Wasn't all of this covered in 1998 on H2O? Either these IDers are trolls or massively ignorant. "I don't proof read my posts" - "Oh well so what if not all my facts are right, my basic principles of argument are sound." ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/6072/1.ashx ) Hooberus....hubris.... I detect a pattern. Do you gentlemen say your prayers at night before sleeping? (Why do humans need sleep anyway? Will we sleep in paradise?)

Is this swearing, to a JW?
by wordlywife insaying "jesus" or "judas priest", as when watching a football game and a call or play is bad?
my jw husband does this frequently.. .
would this be considered swearing by the average witness?.

Well I know quite a few dubs that use four-letter words deemed "obscene" by the FCC.
Reminds me of a time a few years back when my JW wife goofed something up on our work computer and while we were both standing there figuring out how to fix it she said "Oh shit", then covered her mouth with her hand, looked at me and giggled. Ya don't say "Oh shit" once; verbiage such as that becomes ingrained in your brain with use.

Very Bad Apologetics For Honest Seekers
by AlanF ingod had no beginning, so god did not need to be made.. .
if our local space-time universe is uncreated, then of course it is meaningless to ask who created it.
of course, everything that had a beginning had a beginner.

hey Terry, I describe myself as an agnostic, not so much that I don't know (I could be agnostic about a lot of things I certainly believe in but don't understand), but that I simply don't care....... that's as mild as I can state it.
The question of whether the judaic-christian god exists is an absurd one to me and I don't need to read a lot of books on any topic to reach that conclusion.

That and there's a certain camaraderie that exists here, and we don't even have to offer Simon any sexual favors to use his board.
