But it gets us pretty close, doesn't it? Considering our limitations...

I see a lot of gobbledegook by creationists but I just don't see the logic behind their theories. We need the Creator to settle this matter once and for all, right now! But where is It? In Star Trek: The Motion Picture Vger was the most powerful and intelligent entity in the galaxy but all it was was a creation to assemble, collect, and transmit its data. Otherwise it was useless until it "joined" with its creator -- humans. Materialist scientists, like Vger, are constantly collecting and assemling data but we don't search for a creator, that isn't in their "programming." Even Christ recognized that some had no 'spiritual inclinations' and he called those that had them 'happy.' But in 2005 they don't seem happy; they seem to have a need for proof and explanation, because science and logic has wiped out the notion of a needed Creator. At least that's what Hawking said.

What silly rules did your congregation make up?

elders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?

i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).

2. suits only or no privledges.

It is also a rule in my hall that you have to be an MS to read the Watchtower or be an attendant.

Never heard of that one before. As soon as I was baptized I got to read the WT for the congo, and be an attendant. I was assitant to the Secretary, ran mikes, occasionally did the sound, sat in the back a lot on "guard duty" (we had a problem with theft and unknown people driving into our parking lot so we'd keep an eye on it, that was fun, if someone drove into the lot we went out to check it out, lots of stories there, not enough space to tell them), and did lots of other stuff. My reported service time was usually 3-5 hours a month but nobody ever gave me a problem with it. I told the brothers I reported my time honestly: if I sat in the car or McDonald's for 45 minutes that time didnt get reported. A pioneer sister once told me, "You'll never get pioneer hours doing that." Pioneers would spend maybe 20 minutes actually witnessing and the rest of the morning goofing around and they'd report 4 hours.

From Jw to born again .................

when i was "in" the borg ( i love that word) i really , really believed that when ppl left it, they became like the undead.

with no direction in life and no religion, i felt sorry for them.. i never thought that they became ............born again or heaven forbid catholic !!!!!!.

when i first started looking at sites on the internet i came across www.jwinfoline.com what an eye opener !

Jeff, I've asked hundreds of born-agains what it means to be "born again" and I've never received a tangible answer. Mostly just slogans inherited from Billy Graham or some other preacher. LT is almost an exception to this.

To me, becoming a bornagain/fundy after quitting the JWs is jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. But I guess some people have the need to believe and not just believe but do it in (what I consider anyway) a radical way.

Just to add, if i ever became a believer again, I'd be a liberal Catholic, not because I'd buy into all the dogma, but i like the mysticism, the rituals, the beauty and tradition of catholicism. Which is cheap. Which is why I'm not one.

he is a very nice guy and his wife (shown in the pic) is a frigid manipulative self-righteous wench.. apparently he is working hard to get reinstated.

he and his wife are going through divorce proceedings right now.. man, i wish i could talk to him.. ls

I couldn't bring myself to read that webpage. It's just garbage. "What's wrong with telephone sex?" indeed! Man, all these JWs under age 25, i wish i could kick all their butts out into the world. Hah. Not my job though, thank Yahweh. edit: LOL ok I did read it, felt hypocritical calling something garbage without reading it. Now imformed, I can say it is definitely garbage. How dumb the bible is... God didn't make a "compliment" for Adam and only realized he needed one when all the animals were fucking and Adam was left just to play with himself. It's gotta be so confusing for young dubs... I know it was for me. Glad I got out of that filth and into the horrible, disturbed world.

well well well, kicking the puppy was fun.

for those of you unfamiliar with the term, it is bashing and bitching about the org, which i was happy to do.

also with it i found an intense sense of a need to help, and to get involved.

Having been associated with online JW-related activities for near 9 years, meeting so many people and developing so many relationships, I'm 'fading away' as it were because life has so much more to offer. But I'll never disappear entirely. My email [email protected] will always be there. AlanF, Eduardo, and my other friends can still call me on the old fashioned telephone whenever they want and I'll drop whatever I'm doing for them. But hell, that goes for all of you. :)

some of these people started disparaging our beliefs..they were really apostates..deliberately tried to undermine the morals.

with the help of caty a while ago I snuck into the JW chatroom on MSN. It was highly controlled and restricted to ONLY JWs. There was more behind-the-scenes cybersex affairs and mischieve than you could believe. JWs are so held back, the internet gives them what their banal instincts demand. There's no stopping it, no matter how much guilt the Watchtower tries to heap upon those young consciences.

I humbly submit that I can't help but wonder whether or not our lack of need to "survive as fitter" is hindering our further evolution.

I bet it is. The Darwinian age is over for us. We post-Darwinian manipulate the system with medicine, better living conditions, and so forth. As carbon-based lifeforms we've probably gone as far as we'll go. We might even regress! Look at all the fat kids we've created with Gameboys and chatrooms available to almost any kid. "Hindering" is subjective though. When I was a kid I might have been in better shape cause I spent my free time playing baseball, but kids today learn at a much more advanced rate than I had opportunity to do so. They have tens of thousands of libraries at their fingertips. It'll be interesting to see how those kids develop as the world's greatest minds and our leaders 40 years from now.

OK I'm a little more awake now. I'm definitely a materialist, but I'm definitely open to spiritualistic or ultra-dimensional feelings, if they'd ever come to me. They don't, and as kid-A remarked (wow, I have a newfound respect for the dude), we know what causes feelings of "I", or id, and it has nothing to do with a Jeremiah-like influence where God rattles our guts and bones into action.

I'm more than welcome to a Little-Toe like spiritual awakening, but I'd have it studied./.... by...erhm.... scientists. I wouldn't go around the corner to the psychic who does hand readings and the like. or maybe I would for the hell of it?

Great thread guys, wish I were smarter or that I could type faster to participate more. I love this stuff, which is why i spent 20 hours reading the Hedonistic Imperative. We know so much more than goat-herders 3000 years ago.. though they were damned smart themselves. How in god's adam's apple we as humans got so far is a miracle in itself. What a great time to be alive!

i usually have very lucid dreams, and can remember them well after i wake up.

yesterday i slept for a good 16 hours and had funfilled dreams.

I usually have very lucid dreams, and can remember them well after I wake up. Yesterday I slept for a good 16 hours and had funfilled dreams. My hands worked, I felt good, I could do superhuman stuff. I had a boxing match in someone's basement bedroom that turned into an orgy with a 1982-Chris Evert taking an extreme liking to me! I usually know when I'm dreaming and can manipulate stuff, and my emotions feel very real. A little while ago I dreamed about reuniting with a girl I had blown off and broke her heart some 15 years ago and she had saved the mean note I wrote to her, and the look of pain in her face was amazing, and we hugged and cried, and then I woke up right in the middle of all the emotion. I dream I'm an actor a lot these days and get mad at the director for cutting out a lot of my scenes. How powerful our brains are! I feel lucky, cause I can experience New York City, or Brazil, or China, and meet all sorts of people, dead and alive in reality, and feel all sorts of emotions, and never have to leave my bed. Just thought I'd share.

Since I just awoke from 16 hours sleep several of which were occupied by dreams of a 1982-era blonde Chris Evert in a nightie, all I can add right now is: this is a great thread and what great thinkers we have here and I would have loved to participate more, but Chrissy kept begging me to come back to bed. And THAT, my friends, beats any science/religion/alternate reality talk.
