I remember the old days when 'the friends' would pitch in and make the new sign and it was a piece of achievement and pride. Now, from my experience going to the Kingdom Hall several times a couple of years ago, the sign is there just as another sterile piece of non-worship and no spiritual value that the Kingdom Hall meetings have become.

The Year's Text: What's the point?
by Nosferatu inokay, i can see why they have the daily text.
it fulfills the need for a horroscope (sorta), although nobody is anxious to read the damn thing to see what the day is going to bring them.. but what about the year's text... what's the point of it?
it doesn't give an outlook for the year.

I heard the apostafests/ meetups get pretty wild...
by love11 inwhat's been your experiences and would you go to one if they were in your area?
if you don't have any official gatherings for ex-jw's then what have you and your ex-jw friends done for fun?
hopefully curiousity doesn't kill this cat.

I met up with Joanna, Eyegirl and No Apologies this past week. We had a very uncomfortable, even terrible time. Everything went wrong, there was little to be said except for complaining, and I would never, EVER do it again. I hated every minute of it.

Joanna and Eyegirl are the greatest people ever! EVER!
by Cygnus ini just got home from a 5 day stint with joanna, eyegirl, and no apologies as well as joanna's manwhore and it was by far the best vacation i ever had and i had the most fun humanly imaginable.
joanna is the best host ever and eyegirl is great to swap silly stories with, among other things.
;) a public thank you for having me and this is not an invitation for anyone else to swamp them with invitation requests because they do lead busy lives and they are mine mine, you hear me, mine all mine!

Eyegirl's place was very nice. I liked the doorless bedroom very much, and had much fun restoring the ceramic cat's head to its rightful place. However, I'll take "Guest" on Joanna's couch 8 days out of the week plus Sundays.

Just a note (since I can't start another thread today). I don't feel like killing myself anymore, my life is pretty damned good and my trip to Minnesota confirmed it. :) Although, running out of Paxil was kinda bad (very dizzy). Other than that, oh and the hellish golf course conditions, I have become firmly convinced that, to quote Kenny Loggins, I'm all right. :)

The Williams sisters have a book coming out as well as a reality TV show. Wonder how honest try'll be about their affiliation with JWs.
I have two favorite JW celebrities, Lou Whitaker cause I heard he was a complete asshole in the dugout and in team functions, and Sam Perkins because he could hit a 20 footer with a hand in his face. Otherwise damn the rest of them.

God damn it, Leolia is married. :-(
I first got online and chatted on QLink in 1984 and progressed quicly into hacking into my high school, Ma Bell, NORAD, you name it. Amazing what you could do with a few hacking programs, the right #s and passwords, and a 1200 baud modem. Yeah I was a big nerd but it was big fun until I discovered alcohol.

'mankind's search for god': a worldy person's opinion
by Pleasuredome insomeone i know was given 'mankind's search for god' book.
he read it because he thought it would be interesting to know about other religions.
he told me that he soon realised that after so long in each chapter that explained a particular religion, the text started to become biased and sometimes patronizing against that religion.

I only "placed" a few books in my tenure as a JW. One, "Choosing the best way of Life" was sternly returned to me by the householder's mom. Another, "Creation...." was returned to me by a college student who couldn't stop laughing.
