Just a couple of corrections.... I'm so damned stubborn. It wasn't Kool-Aid the Jim Jones cult drank, it was FlavorAid. And, those weren't JWs that expected the world to end in 1914. They were "earnest" Bible Students, from which the JWs became an offshoot. Carry on, folks.

Our Own Conference
by Valis ini know there are conferences that xjws attend, but since i ran accross joy castro's writings and new book today it got me thinking about the subject.
something non-religious in nature.....well as non religious as xjws can get anyway lol.
i think it would be cool if we could have people like her, kimberly norris, bryan, donald, and so many of the others that have done stuff for us.

By the by, the meaning of my post and the sad face i.e. :( meant that I wish I enjoyed pot - I don't. And alcohol doesn't mix with the heavy dose of anti-coagulants I have to take every day so my prosthetic heart valve doesn't form a clot which would kill me. So I miss my precious Guinness and Harp. :(

I remember some woman yelling as she approached the platform at a DC. Then 10 minutes later a man did the same thing. This was maybe 20 years ago. Soon thereafter DCs started posting brothers, 2 a side, as "guards" to the platform. I did that once, and almost fell asleep. Which reminds me of a bad joke: who was the smallest man in the Bible? Peter, cause he slept on the watch. (alternatively, Knee-high-miah, or Ezra, because he read the word of god aloud in the king's ear). har-har

Hmm.. nobody's tried to answer my question yet. Just once I'd like to have an intelligible conversation with, say, my dead great-grandfather. Yet his spirit and everyone else's that are dead either sit in silence, act like the bogie-man, or most probably simply don't exist and the phenonenae attributed to them can be explained in other ways.

Ohhhh I'm so glad I didn't enter this thread. What a useless argument. That is the true agnostic's position: the question of God's existence is an absurd one to even ask. That's my position too. Whether God exists or not is irrelevant to me. I simply don't care one way or the other.

Elder gives service for non-JW
by jt stumbler inmy cousin, a non-jw died last saturday of kidney cancer.
although not a jw, his wife also a non jw asked an elder to do his service.
this at the request of his jw mother, who by the way is very inactive.

I hate JW funerals/memorials. When one of my close friends was murdered in 1991 (the case is still open), the funeral talk was all about JWism, practically nothing about her. Her Catholic family that attended were visibly (and rightly) extremely pissed off.
When my grandfather died a few years ago, I went to the kingdom hall for his service. What a horrible talk the elder gave. My non-JW family were pissed that his military service in WW2 was not mentioned. The elder read about six scriptures "proving" that the dead are really dead. NO SHIT SHERLOCK. Y'all are right, these services are nothing more than a live JW commericial.
