My best friends hug me and tell me they love me on a one-on-one basis, and we're not gay, but I wouldn't get offended if somebody mentioned it looked "gay" unless they were trying to be assholes.

I guess my advice would be, if you feel apprehensive it ain't right. And it definitely ain't right if she says No. But if she says Yes you don't necessarily have to make a committment. You'll get something out of it and so will she. That oughta be good enough.
But what do i know? I'm a woman beating manipulative lying jerk.

Films/movies that resonate with Apostates
by Black Man inthere are a few films that i really connect with that sum up my j-dub experiences........ .
shawshank redemption: if you've ever "served time" at bethel, you can't help but connect with this film.
institutionalization, mental persecution and "andy dufrene crossing through 500 yards of shit, came out clean on the other side.

A Clockwork Orange, because IMO the prison chaplin was the only moral character. How ironic.

What's the hardest thing you ever had to do?
by Country Girl ini think the hardest thing i ever went through was my divorce.
it was something i knew i needed to go through, and get over, but it was the hardest thing of my life.
i wanted the divorce, but it was so very painful.... what's the hardest thing you've ever gone through?

The most difficult of all will be dealing with the death of my father.
The hardest thing I did in the past was realizing caty was gone, how I completely lost control, our family business was moving on without me, and I wanted to kill myself. So I guess the hardest thing was humbling myself and spending 3 days in a hospital psyche ward and all the horrific events I witnessed therein. I'd never go back to a place like that. What keeps me going now is hoping for a better future, living and marrying caty, getting my arms and hands back, and managing the business. But right now, the hardest thing is keeping that positive mental attitude, and I credit caty first and foremost, my parents, certain people here like AlanF and Eduardo, and my good friend chris, who always greets me and leaves me with a hug and a "I love you."

JWs who were actually cool
by Black Man inwe always talk about the crazy j-dub fundy types, but i knew some cool jws (co, do, bethelites, pio) during my time.
this is kind of a "where are they now" post along with acknowledginig some jws who were cool and down-to-earth.
as with most "cool" and good people in the borg, most of them are either not jws anymore (burned out) or are not "serving" in responsible positions (funny how that works, isn't it).

As far as CO's go, Ray (crap, forget his last name) was a good fella for the reason that he never pushed numbers, just always said "just do your best" with a twinkle in his eye. By far the easiest going CO I ever knew,
Alan Hood was a complete dick, but he was witty, being British. He once said from the platform, "Don't be nervous taking me or Sister Hood on your Bible studies. We'll bring a bottle of Scotch and chat for a bit and if we're still afloat we'll make an attempt at the study."
Last CO I had was, I think, Melvin Mallette. Black dude from Canada. Loved to play hockey. As a going away present our congo bought him a hockey jersey with "Mallete" on the back.

Does that look like a Watchtower picture or what? It's just missing the Africans, Mexicans, and blonde-haired blue-eyed Americans with glazed smiles on their faces as they're performing some task. Oh yeah, and the women dutifully serving apples dressed in the full height of paradisaic condition.

YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!
by Gill inwell, today i began to think there really was no point in trying to argue a point in a reasonable reasoning way with a jw, after all, there's non so blind as those who will not see.. i saw my, mother, again and we had a humungous scrap on the wtbts.
she wanted to know if i expected her to return to the rcatholic church as that's the religion she originated in.
she told me how she had been badly beaten by the nuns and that on one occasion when she had missed class and gone to the cinema instead she had received such a severe clobbering that she could barely sit down for a week.

Gill, I'm sorry you had to endure that. What a wicked religion to make people say such things to their own flesh and blood.

That's good stuff. I wish I felt better, I'd call the local KH for a Bible study just to see who they'd send.
