The doctrines were very similar
Except for the Fundamental Doctrine of Jehovah's Witnesses, which is that their leadership, the Governing Body, is always right and never to be questioned, even when they're wrong.
tonight while at a restaurant discussing jw topics my mom told me that herbert armstrong was on the wt society board of directors years ago and that he ended up leaving over doctrinal issues, and was subsequently branded an apostate by the wt society, and after this he founded the worldwide church of god.
can anybody else verify this?
it does seem believable since a majority of the wwcog doctrines mirror those of the wt society.

does anyone have the factual information concerning the jw's in romania?
i believe there were many witnesses serving under ban in romania for years and years while the communists were in power.
then in 1989 when the country revolted against ceausescu and communism was overthrown, the ban on the witnesses was lifted and they could now worship freely.
Hehe... I like that... "flawed marketing." Yes indeed, people refer to JWs as "Jehovahs" or variations thereof all the time. Which, really, is a testament to two things: One, flawed marketing, i.e. the Watchtower hasn't impressed their name well enough on people's minds, and Two, that contemporary peoples are too lazy or just plain too dumb to remember a multisyllabic name like Jehovah's Witnesses.
someone asked me if i knew anything about that.
oblviuosly i don't, so i'm reaching to all of you in this enlightened crowd to shed some light on this for me.
thanks!
Okie dokie, rooter, have it your way. :)

It's amazing how rumors and misundersatndings get spread in the JW underground and among apostastes. Armstrong was never associated with JWs and his rag "The Plain Truth" only resembled the "Watchtower." This is similar to how people claim CT Russell was influence by 7th Day Adventists, when Russell wrote that he never read nor was familiar of Ellen White's work.
BTW thanks for the call last night, Alan.
Cygnus, of the 'name-dropping' class (been accused of that elsewhere and find it funny, considering I've been "around" for 9 years)

I think there are about 10,000 Romanian True Faith JWs. They've been dubbed Rutherfordites, and have had a web presence for at least 7 years. It's hard to know how many Bible Students (wrongly called "Russellites") exist but they're at least 10,000 as well and the internet has helped them contact each other and reestablish a sense of community (but still no central authority).
Just a note to clarify a previous post: the JWs are technically an offshoot of the Bible Students, not the other way around. Along his presidency, Rutherford lost some 75% of Russell's followers, or Bible Students, and he, Franz and Knorr built the preaching and publishing evangelistic empire that recruited new members, especially Jonadabs, to eventually outnumber their competetion. CT Russell was not the founder of JWism by any means, other than he 'put the hose on hellfire' and began the date-setting and type/antitype junk, which JWs have slowly abandoned in the last 30 years.
i was wondering especially from some of the old timers out there jw's or ex-jw's that really understand the jw's concept of the reserrected dead during the 1000 reign of jesus christ.
do they believe that the people brought back from the dead will have to convert to jw's in order to live on for eternity?
i know this sounds like a stupid question but i was talking to a jw's elder the other day and he told me that people like my grandmother who was a "devout born-again baptist" would have to study and become a jw's in the 1000 year reign before she could enter into paradise.
Also as a ressurected person she would according to JW teaching be without sin.
Not quite.

w74 2/1 p. 96 Questions from Readers ***However, others of mankind, including those resurrected on earth during Christ’s thousand-year reign, will not immediately be freed from sinful inclinations and their deadly effects. In fact, without the benefits of Christ’s ransom being applied to them and their availing themselves of these, such resurrected ones on earth would die again. That liberation from sinful inclinations will eventually take place during the Christ’s thousand-year reign is confirmed at 1 Corinthians 15:24-28. There we read that not until "the last enemy, death," is brought to nothing will Jesus ‘hand over the kingdom to his God and Father.’ This ‘handing over of the kingdom’ could not occur until the completion of Christ’s thousand-year reign.
i had a scholarship that i didn't take because... well i'm sure you know.
i did eventually go back to school and get a degree but i feel like i lost ten years.
I agree with unbeliever. Early in our doomed marriage, my JW (then) wife said if she weren't a JW, she'd be a metalhead.
.
does anyone know a website about where can i find sublimated images in watchtower material?.
peter
No, because what people are considering "subliminal images" aren't really there, or don't carry any such impact at all. They are simply drawing mistakes or perhaps somebody goofing around and got their picture into a WT publication.
A real subliminal image would be such as a small picture in a 1980 or 1981 Watchtower discussing disfellowshipped (apostates (?)) and included a hand-drawn image of a 40-something man with dissheveled hair scowling, thus implying that DF'd (apostates (?)) are angry, mean. directionless people.
(edited to correct typos)
so, my life as a jw has been cast, before i can speak or understand even one word.
my folks relegated their parental authority to the wts (they told me that, explicitly), and were just tickled pink to see me grow up in accordance with the expectations that they themselves had adopted: the end is near, there is no need to worry about anything in the future, but just to devote my life to the "cause of the truth.".
but this is where the cognitive dissonance comes into play.
As I've said here previously, my dad spanked us kids, kept out of of extracurricular actiivites, and so forth because we were Jehovah-Kids and now he regrets it. He would even tell us he didn't like what he had to do it, but Jehovah says he has to do it, so do it he did. How said to eliminate your own personal convictions and allow people you've never even met dictate how you raise your family.

As a side note, and I apologize for being off-topic, but when I was a kid, prepubescent, Raiders of the Lost Ark was on television, and the whole family was watching, and near the end when the priest went to open the ark, my dad, who has known the Bible inside and out for decades, showed me how the priest was wearing the Urim and Thummim with its different jewels and precious stones, and I thought that was cool, then when the Nazis faces melted he showed me in Zechariah 14:12: " There will be a rotting away of one’s flesh, while one is standing upon one’s feet; and one’s very eyes will rot away in their sockets, and one’s very tongue will rot away in one’s mouth" and said 'that is how it'll be at Armageddon.' I thought ewwwwwww how horrible.
