Which did you fear more as a JW, God or the Elders?
by JH ini felt that god understood if i missed meetings or didn't go out in the field service very much, but the elders wouldn't.. bottom line, i feared the elders more ...... that's pretty sad.

elders and my dad then again my dad WAS an elder so it's a kind of "egg or chicken" situation... God never was an issue, I figured, if he was that pissed at me for something I've done, he could get rid of me right then and there...or he would get me later...no way of getting out of it. Whatever...it was really more of a boogey man threat to me

As you know I'm a fader. I've been out for several years now. All of our family except for one of my brothers and one of my husband's brothers are JW's.
My need for info comes from the fact that ever since the rounds of the latest Dist. Conv. I've been receiving all kinds of "encouraging" calls from my brother - the elder and his wife, who thinks of herself as the "first lady" of JW's and who refuses to go to my parents' house because they associate with my other DF brother, and even some of their friends who I met in the past but have no relationship with them whatsoever.
I see in many posts about the "resolution" and the "surprise" of Sunday in the DC, and am curious to see if it has anything to do with this.
The calls are getting annoying, I've simply stopped answering the phone. What pisses me off is the fact that my bro gave them my cell phone number!!!!
Anyway, those of you with the 411, please, give me some "new light" hahaha -

I can't put eyeliner straight for anything. So I had the eyeliner done - two-tone. It looks great and it wasn't painful. Now I just put on some mascara and off we go.
The only time it was bothersome (a little) was when she was doing the middle of the eye and switching to the other side and I had to look to the opposite side. For a brief micro-second my iris and the needle were in the same place. Not fun, but again it was a micro-second.
Only eyelined the top. My friend did her eyebrows, lips, and all over eyeliner. It looks really good. I guess it depends on the technician to make it painless and not Michael Jackson-like.
Next I'm going to perm my eyelashes. I'll let you know how that goes. -

The JW dress code.....yuck
by JH inthis morning i took a long walk and happened to walk near by a small christian church.
and i could see them come out of the building after their meeting.
they were all dressed differently, some in clean sunday clothes, some in clean jeans, but no one in a suit like the jw's do.

My husband was "counseled" about wearing a sweater OVER his shirt and tie to a meeting once. Let me tell you this: he was wearing gray slacks, dress shoes, a long sleeve shirt and tie and a knitted sweater - very nice one - over it.
The conversation went like this: "Where is your jacket?" --"Didn't bring one" --"You know your supposed to be dressed in a manner that brings praise to God" --"What exactly is innapropiate about the way I'm dressed?" Of course, no answer.
I've always got a beef with the "no beard" policy and the "skirt or dress only" for the ladies -

I loved going camping with all my JW friends the week between X-mas and New Years. Since we couldn't celebrate, our parents would make arrangements to take us camping that week --ALL TOGETHER!!
Keep in mind, in Puerto Rico you go "camping" at the beach (one of the advantages of having year long summers). We had a blast. We went diving, boating, skiing and just hung out for a whole week. And when we were older, we would go mostly by ourselves, except for one or two sets of parents. Plus: NO MEETINGS!!
I love that my best friend to this day and I met in a meeting when she was 6 and I was 5.
I love that I met my husband there.
I love that my wedding was a blast where we danced till 3:00 am without any drama because some idiot got drunk half way through it. There was definitely some buzz, but no drunkenness.
I love that my very first boyfriend, who is one of the sweetest, kindest people you'll ever meet, I got from there too. So I get to have that sweet "first love" memory still. -

One of the most irritating things you can say to a Witness?
by free2beme inmy relatives that are still witnesses, always hate it when i say one thing to them, more then any others ... .
"are you going to church tonight?
"were you at church?".

Just wish them "Good Luck!" or say "Wish me luck" about anything that is about to start.
You can see their neck stiff the moment you say it. But they will wish each other "Success" before they go out to FS. Like it doesn't mean the same thing...so stupid. -

I don't know what genius thought the Merrell Center was good for a convention.
This is an arena prepared mostly for HS graduations, dances, HS plays, and limited sport events (HS level). For that purpose is nice. I've been there for trainings (I'm a teacher with the school district that owns it), and even for that is so bad people leave, stand in the hallways or perform hara-kiri right there.:)
My last DC was in Denver CO, in the old Mile High Stadium the year before they started using the new Pepsi Center. I had a baby and I wasn't allowed to seat in the shaded "reserved for the elderly" - but mostly empty area. The sun was burning and I got sunburned in the two hours I stayed before I said "screw this" and left. That was the first day of the assembly. Never been to another again. -

That has happened to me.
In the middle school I used to teach, they have this program called Project Grad. Basically is a grant program to prevent drop out and give scholarship money. The condition is that the students sign up with the program in the 6th grade, maintain a C average throughout MS and HS, and do so many hours of community service through HS and they'll get $4,000 for college.
Anyway every year, the teachers of the school have to go on a Saturday morning to an assigned number of 6ht graders' homes and present the deal to the parents and get them to sign in.
Total JW dejavue. Not only that, but many parents would hide and not come out thinking we were Jdubs.
