I would say -0- but Voltaire hit the nail on the head. I don't like the fact that their publications don't list the author(s), woops I forget, their publications are faxed to the printing rooms directly from heaven.

just wondering who is going to college now and/or who attended college after leaving the jws.
what is/was your major and how do/did you find the experience?
do you find it difficult to choose a major?
Just wondering who is going to college now and/or who attended college after leaving the JWs. What is/was your major and how do/did you find the experience? Do you find it difficult to choose a major? Are you going full time or part time? Are you a traditional student or an adult student? What are your favorite things about college? What do you dislike? Do you find it easy or difficult to acclimate to intellectual and campus life? Are you in debt because our parents didn't plan for us to attend college and we have to pay for it ourselves with the help of scholarships and loans?
I was a bad student in high school (why focus on school when it's not that important??) and of course I regular pioneered after high school graduation instead of going to college. Finally, at 34 years of age I graduated a community college last year with honors and as one of the valedictorians if I may brag and am now attending a four-year college. I'm currently (and have been) going part-time while working full-time but plan on leaving my nice cushy job and attend college full-time in the Fall so I can totally make up for a college experience I should have had at age 18. It's scary to leave a full-time job with benefits but I plan on immersing myself into the college life and hopefully study abroad for a semester...what fun..
Also if anyone is on Facebook, we should be "college friends."

i have a problem that im hoping you can all help me with.. my daughter who is now 11 was devastated when we left.
she loved it, our fault we did everything by th book.
she wants to go to the meetings with my parents.
Am I missing something here? I don't mean to be confrontational, but you are you daughters parent. You have every right decide what she hears and reads..period. Unless you are abusing her or not providing for her physical needs, the congregation or her grandparents have no right to interfere.
I have a good friend who left the JW religion when her daughter was very young. When her daughter turned 18 last year, her JW grandparents and Aunt (my friends sister) pounced on her..actually they were sneaky, inviting her to spend "time with them" when actually they were trying to get her to go to meetings with them and to start a study. Thankfully my friend raised her daughter to be a smart woman and she picked up on it soon enough (she's also in college now). Without any sort of proddding from her mother, she told them that going forward, she'll accept their invitations if she can bring her mother along (who's disassociated). Needless to say the invites stopped shortly thereafter.
The point is, while your daughter is under your supervision they cannot do anything. Believe me, get her involved in extracurricular activities and she'll soon lose interest. Does she like ballet or music?. When she turns 18 and wants to be JW, then so be it, but for now you can make that decision for her.

when i was at bethel in the 70's the president of the watchtower society nathan knorr was really unpopular among a lot of bethelites because he supported the four year oblligation for bethelites to stay at bethel and stay single for four years.
i had heard that over nintey percent of the people who left bethel fell away from the jw religion afterwards, i was among that number, and i had heard that the majority of people who came to bethel did not keep there four year commitment but left in less than a year, i know the majority of people i started with lasted about a year at bethel, i was dumb enough to stay at bethel three and one half years.
i guess it was because i was raised in the witnesses and didn't know what to do after i lost my faith in that religion while i was there.
My Dad was in Bethel in the early 60's under Knorr. He rarely spoke of this experience. I think he was there for about 2 years if I recall correctly. Looking back on it now, it was strange he rarely brought it up and never really encouraged my brothers and I to go, although he's still a devotee.
From what I hear it was not fun back then (not that it's any better now).

why is satan supposed to be so bad?
he gets the blame, sure, but what does he explicitly do?
that god had?
A belief in Satan and Jehovah or in other words a struggle between evil and good has it's roots in paganism. But more importantly, it removes the need for individual responsibility. Satan makes us do bad things so we need Jehovah or <insert your favorite name of God here> to help us do good. Since the Hebrew Bible says humans were created 6000 or so years ago and Satan deceived them and placed humans on a course of evil and death, then God has to step in for their salvation (nevermind that God didn't feel need to step in at the time of the Adam and Eve were deceived but allowed 6000 years of human suffering).
My mother keeps blaming Satan for deceiving her son. I keep telling her to not give a fictional creature so much credit and allow me to take responsibility for my own life.
Way back when, someone had to attach a meaning to bad things in order to make sense of them. Interestingly there are some in United States are now blaming God for bad things. God is mad at the United States for whatever, and caused the Hurricanes the terrorist attacks.
It's really laughable.

Your dilemma is the sort of thing that gets me riled up. Mercedes. You are her parents and you need to put your foot down with your daughters grandparents. They MUST NOT interfere with your wishes. Your daughter can make up her mind when she's 18, until then, you have every right to keep her home from those awful meetings. Believe me, after a few weeks or months she won't even miss them and will forget about the doomsdaying rhetoric. If your daughter's grandparents cannot respect your wishes, then they can't see her without being in your presence. That's it.

on may 9th and 10th i will be at a meeting in montvale nj for a work related meeting.
i should be able to take a few extra days off to hang out with anyone in the area!
:d. anyone want to make some plans to get together?
May is a nice time to be in the city...keep in touch with Soledad and myself. I've been involved with a few groups here, including ACB and Meet-up...we can definately arrange to paint the town red (Soledad, don't think I met you yet). We can always make mischief in Brooklyn if you'd prefer
Sometimes (in the summer) I ride my bike across the Brooklyn Bridge with friends, we lunch in the Heights and I take my posse to the Bossert Hotel or one of the administration buildings to use the restrooms and freshen up...hee hee...there's also an awesome ice cream place down by the river and adjacent to one of their buildings.
Keep in touch,

hey guys,.
i'm just finished reading george orwell's "1984.
" has anyone read it and did you also find eerie similarities to.
Oh gees....now I have to read "Animal Farm".... ;-)
Hellrider, your story is very truthful...any elements coming from a personal experience?
I feel similar in regard to my parents...gave their lives to their religion, now they're old, ill and have very little retirement savings and they are quite stunned they reached the age of retirement before "the end of this system"....Heaven Forbid they'll get any help from the religion they devoted their lives and money to (my Dad served in NY Bethel as well).
Quite Sad...sort of like poor Winston Smith (1984), who in the end was very grateful to "Big Brother" for providing for him so well.
