she just went back to be able to talk to her family.
I should have posted an update. My mom ended up not needing the surgery. The symptoms led the doctor to think it was a common heart valve problem, but it was actually some rare form of heart disease that can be treated by medicine. *sigh of relief* (For most people having a long term disease is worse than a valve that can be fixed with surgery, but not when you are dealing with this blood issue crap!)
I'm going to keep in mind the idea about storing blood or using mine. That's a great idea!
it comes on the national geographic channel and it's about young people who choose to leave the amish faith/way of life, the backlash from their families, and their adjustment to the "outside" world.
it's fascinating for me to watch.
some of the experiences are unique to amish, but so much of it is similar to what people feel when they decide they no longer want to be witnesses.
I like to watch it because it reminds me of what we went through, only they have it worse. At least I had a high school education and knew how to drive when I got out. Don't get me wrong, leaving is tough because you loose your support system, but I think they have it worse.

I was a 5th generation. I thought I was so lucky to have been born in the "truth" with so much family JW support. I was baptized at TWELVE. My critical thinking skills were not all that great at TWELVE. It took me until 18 to become inactive and 23 to disassociate.

What did it for me was that Jesus said he would save a cow on the sabbath and how much more value a human had. If he could break the sabbath to save a life, couldn't we break the blood rule to save a life? And also -- Blood is is a symbol of life. What good is the symbol if the life is dead?
She didn't really get the last one. I don't think she really got either of those.
What really makes me think that if I can convince her, she will change her mind is that she actually donated blood a while back. ....

Drinking the Kool-Aid is a reference to a cult under the direction of Jim Jones where members comitted suicide by drinking kool-aid laced with cyanide. It refers to a cult having unquestioning belief in their leaders without critical thinking.
From "Star Trek" the Borg is a "collective" of half-human, half-machine creatures, who have sacrificed their individual identity to live within a rigidly controlled environment and function as one mind focused upon universal domination. The Borg is led by one distinct individual mind, which is cast as somewhat of a self-proclaimed Science Fiction "messiah." That mind alone actually directs their plans and defines their collective mindset. The Borg travel throughout space in search of new species to assimilate. Subsequently, those absorbed into their collective are labeled "liberated." Calling a JW that is saying tha they give up much of who they are to live in a controlled environment controlled by the governing body.

My mom is going to need heart surgery soon. She is currently a recently reinstated JW after being disfellowshipped for 5 years. She just went back to be able to talk to her family. She isn't going out in service or to the meetings now that she got reinstated. She is pretending she believes to their face and pretending that she's fed up with them to my face. I have no idea what she really thinks. I doubt she really knows what she thinks.
This heart surgery puts her at a cross roads. She may need a blood transfusion. Her sisters wanted to go with her to make sure she told the doctor that she didn't want blood. I want to go with her to make sure she lets the doctor do his job. Mom told me that she didn't want to get a blood transfusion reguardless because she doesn't want to get a disease. I told her how unlikely that was. The conflict made her shut down and not talk to me anymore about it. I did get her to finally decide to let me go with her to the doctor instead of her JW family. I think that's HUGE. So, I may have a few one liners I can get in to talk about the blood issue before she shuts down again. She won't listen if I go into scientific detail about components and vaccines and fractions. I tried debunking the Biblical aspect back a few years ago and she doesn't really care about that part.
Question:
What little things could I say that aren't all that technical that might get her to think?
i want to vacation somewhere sometime later this year, but i am not sure where i want to go yet.
i need some ideas.

i am sorry, but even if you deny the whole witness faith, there is still parts to christianity that they pointed out that you can not just ignore and act like it is okay to join another faith that is christian.
are you going to become catholic when your know their history?
I'm a Presbyterian. I like that they tell you up front: "We require you to believe in Jesus, but you don't have to agree with us on the rest." I like the fellowship and meeting friends that churches give. I couldn't handle a chuch that requires me to believe what they say 100% of the time or the shunning if I decide to leave. I like feeling the freedom to read the Bible and decide what it says myself and not feeling like I need to look up a Watchtower to explain it.

Sorry, I don't know anyone who rings a bell like that. I don't want to reveal my identy to the active witness I know that goes to that hall or I would ask.
