>>>>I hear that the ESV (English Standard Version) is a good second choice.
I read the NIV when I first got out of the WatchTower. It was actually a gift from a fellow ex-jw. But when I finally joined a church they were using the ESV (English Standard Version) and I fell in love with it. It sounds like the NWT (it's definitely NOT!) so it sounds familiar to me. It was the first Bible that I felt comfortable with. It is great to do studies on words but is still very readable. I'm surprised more of us Christian ex-jws don't use it.

How did you handle facing the reality of death?
by song19 infor those raised or who got the truth at a young age, how have you been able to handle the reality that you are in fact, eventually, going to die in this system?.
for me, this was a real hard reality check.
as a witness, my entire life i was convinced that i would see armageddon, that i wouldnt grow old and die.

I've always been ok with the idea of dieing personally. I always considered it an option because I could get into a car wreck at anytime and loose my life. It was the realization that everyone I loved would probably die at some point that hit me hard especially when I think of my husband. What also hit me pretty hard was the realization that saving for retirement might be a good idea and that my biological clock is ticking and I might want to consider having children soon.

Apparently I ruined my mom's life.
by reneeisorym inin the course of a conversation (it started with the fact that the convention is in town and i work near the site and i was stressing because my family was across the street) i asked my mom if she was upset because i made her choose between me and her family.
she couldn't answer.
after silence she said, "i always said i would die for you so i guess we'll see.

You guys said exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks so much. I just had a bad day because the convention was in town and because Father's Day was approaching. (Not that I missed Father's Day but I just hated that I couldn't celebrate it even now that I'm gone because my dad's still in) I think I'm better now! :)

The DC is here in town for me too ... UGH! ... I HATE it! I work near the thing and I was on my way to taco bell and here comes a suited guy walking across the street. I would have yelled, "Aren't you supposed to stay in there and eat a brown bag lunch?" but he wouldn't have heard me. I am dreading the traffic already. It's 4:37 and I'm sure it's getting close to letting out so that it'll be nice and clogged up when I leave work at 5. The whole thing gives me flashbacks and an urge to picket.

They could hate you and you loose their trust and therefore the opportunity to help them. The lady who got me a JC committee meeting really did me a favor but I am still trying to forgive her.

my mom's a social butterfly. She has more friends than I could imagine. The problem is that she still thinks it's "the truth".

High gas prices finally changing North American vehicle attitudes
by Simon inwhen i read that the ford f-150 is the best selling vehicle in america i wrongly assumed that it was just the best selling truck.
but no, it has been the best selling vehicle for the last 17 years!
if that is the best selling you can be sure that there are plenty of similar models from different manufacturers being bought as well.. they are huge, fuel-inefficient things and i seriously doubt that even 90% of the people who buy them really need them.

I drive a little toyota because that's all I need ... I can't comprehend why people would want an SUV or a race car when they will be staying around town on pavement -- not racing or driving along wagon trails.
But why is it wrong to drive a big vehicle but no one talks about those with big houses? Doesn't it take more heat/cooling and more water for the swimming pool and big tub?
I'll tell you why -- We work and make money and want to do something with it. Why pile it all up in the bank and work for nothing?
What I don't understand is borrowing 30k to buy a brand new Suberban. We borrow too much money in America. If we would live within our means, we would have a lot less problems. -

I left first and it was all because of me that she had to choose. I was ok with the consequences of my choice but it sucks that other people are also feeling the consequences of my choice. -

how to make the perfect sandwich
by wings infirst you have to have an appreciation for the fact that it is an art form.. like an appreciation of music....endless possibilities...... then you have to start with good fresh bread, if you don't have that, you won't hit perfect.
hot or cold?
doesn't really matter...perfection can be found either way.

This is the perfect sandwich. My mom begs me to make it when she visits.
Grilled Tomato Smoked Turkey And Muenster Sandwich
* 1 tablespoon minced red onion
* 3 tablespoons fat-free sour cream
* 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
* 1 teaspoon chopped fresh or 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
* 4 teaspoons butter, softened
* 4 (1 1/2-ounce) slices sourdough bread
* 6 (1-ounce) slices fat-free, honey-roasted smoked turkey breast
* 4 (1/2-inch-thick) slices tomato
* 2 (1/2-ounce) slices Muenster cheese
Directions
1. Preparation
2. Combine the first 4 ingredients in a bowl. Spread 1 teaspoon butter on one side of each bread slice. Spread 2 tablespoons mustard mixture over unbuttered side of each of 2 bread slices; top each with 3 turkey slices, 2 tomato slices, 1 cheese slice, and 1 bread slice (with buttered side out).
3. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot. Add the sandwiches; cover and cook for 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
