I would have kept everything the same except I would go back to April 1994 and not gotten baptised. That way I could still speak to my parents. All the rest I would keep the cange. ... then i would fast forward to where i am now.

Trampled upon the Son of God?
by Rooster in29 of how much more severe a punishment, do you think, will the man be counted worthy who has trampled upon the son of god and who has esteemed as of ordinary value the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has outraged the spirit of undeserved kindness with contempt?
let me sit down my notes.
i feel the wtbts has fulfilled this scripture.. .

Ticker, I never thought 607 was confusing - in fact I could have explained it to you and had you convinced.
I never understood 607. I still don't know where they got that. I've heard it before but it just didn't "click" ... the archeologists's explinations make more sense.

Faith in God and the Church - Part 2 of 2 The Catholic Faith
by Amazing inmy story is sub-titled so you can skip ahead to parts that interest you most.. by way of reminder, my posting on "faith in god and the church" is not meant to convert anyone, because i have been out of the preaching business now for 14-years.
i am sharing my views given the questions i get when i do post about belief in god or my association with the catholic church.. why the catholic church?
protestants, especially fundamentalists and evangelicals have a hard spot with the roman catholic church.

The problem I see with the Catholic Church is this:
If you decide to let someone interpret the Bible for me, than any one of them could be right. Then I have no idea which one to follow since they all say something different from the Bible. Then I have a choice between Mormon, JW, Catholic or Orthodoxy. I just think that scripture is sufficient. Jesus Himself supports this idea.
"Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me. 'But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.'
"Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men." He was also saying to them, "You nicely set aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death'; but you say, 'If a man says to his father or his mother, anything of mine you might have been helped by is Corban (that is to say, given to God),' you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that" (Mk. 7:6-13).
There was a written record even in Moses's day. Even in an oral culture, Moses wrote down the ten commandments and the law.
"You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you" (Deut. 4:2). "Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it" (Deut. 12:32)
I studies the Greek Orthodox church for a while too. This is what disturbed me in the book I got about them: The Bible must not be regarded as something set up over the Church, but as something that lives and is understood within the Church.
I could write a book but I'll stop here. I just wanted you to understand the logic of prodestants.

Is Jesus becoming less relevant - even to Christians?
by nicolaou inone thing many jw's could do was quote jesus, although whether or not they lived up to the so-called 'christian ideal' is questioned by most of us.
conversely, many others who call themselves christians are much nicer people!
they love, they are generous, charitable and willing to give - but they are unlikely to be as familiar as we are with the details of jesus life and ministry as recorded in the bible.. i don't have a problem with that, it's what people do that matters!.

I disagree. I hear a lot about Jesus and what he did. We have lessons in his life and ministry. Last year I was assigned to read the book of John before December. Most of the focus is how that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins. So, I disagree. Jesus is the main subject always in my Baptist church.

I met an ex jw at church today!
by esw1966 ini recently wrote an email to my pastor and let him know of my story and journey up until this point.. he thanked me for blessing him with my story and had stated that he was praying for me and my situation and my 3 children.
he was very encouraging, positive, and loving.
after getting his quick response, i received another email from him stating that he had just received an email from another ex jw and how similar her story was to mine.

I remember the hall saying yes they may be 'good people' but they DO NOT LOVE JEHOVAH. The people I am meeting are more religiously touched and have a REAL LOVE for others and God than ANY witness I ever met! I have been very impressed with those I meet at church. I look forward to being more like them and having them as my friends!
I could have said those same words too. I feel the exact same way.
I am so glad you have found a good church and are making friends. I am also happy to see that you have found your way to a relationship with Jesus too! This post made me feel so good today.
God is awesome!!!!

Former/Current Elders, MS, or anyone who wants to give their $.02
by I.Wonder ini was wondering what an elder or ms might say to a wife who has an unbelieving mate?.
especially if her mate is in direct opposition of the truth.
i dont necessarily mean that her life in any physical danger.

I went through this and received advice in the back room with the elders.
They told me that I should go to the meetings more and go out in service more. They said that if I set a better example, I might "win him over."
The same general response that they think fixes everything.

Changing your diet - meat, dairy, sugar
by Pleasuredome ini have just finished reading 'confessions of a kamikaze cowboy' by dirk benedict.
in the book he talks about how 'macrobiotics' (exclusion of meat, sugar, dairy among others) helped improve his health and fight cancer.
a lot of what he says about food resonates with me, so im curious.

I have a problem with my weight. My whole family is very obese and I just do not want to be like that because it just makes you miserable. It hurts my self esteem too much. I'm going to be a pretty big girl no matter what I do it seems but at least I can keep myself out of the plus sizes if i'm careful.
So, I've tried every diet under the sun to see what worked for me that I could stick to long term. I tried vegiterian, vegan, low carb, low fat, this and that ...
And I ended up with a low calorie diet. I eat about 1200 calories a day and watch every one. On the weekends I quit counting and eat what I want but I eat probably half of what most people can eat. It keeps me from having cravings during the week.
I eat a breakfast bar (special k or the like) in the mornings with water. (I used to drink mountain dew every single morning and I had to stop)
Lunch is a bowl of soup and a unsweatened tea. (in the south no one drinks it without sugar!)
Snack is yogurt. And the real stuff -- not the artificial sweetner kind.
Dinner is baked fish or chicken and 2 veggies. Sometimes I'll get shrimp and eat it with some veggies.
On the weekends I eat sushi. Its pretty low fat and an awesome treat. Sometimes I sneak a mountain dew!
So.. that's it!
