OMG .. My mother just sent me this email. It was the only aunt I had that wasn't a freaking JW. I have tried to contact her but her contact info wouldn't work that I had. I tried to ask family for her number but they wouldn't give it to me (or ignored me rather). I was going to try to contact her so I could have someone to talk to and she freaking died.
And why the hell couldn't they tell me TUESDAY so I could have gone to the funeral or something??! I get this Friday AFTERNOON so I couldn't go ...
So here's a reply after I asked why she didn't tell me sooner:
I couldn’t take a chance on you showing up and the family would wonder how you found out. They would point to me some has already made the commit if they knew I was e-mailing you they would have a decision to make. So think about it.
So here's my reply:
My Aunt who is NOT a JW died, mother. You could have had someone call me and tell me .. and it was after all an emergency. I do have a right to know when my family dies. This is the only person I had in our family who might have talked to me. I have tried over and over to contact her and I couldn't. Her number was disconnected. I even looked up Greg and tried to call him but they were never home. Why do you let some men tell you what to do like this? They are just trying to control you mother. Why couldn't you ask Dad if he could get an elder to call me or something? She wasn't even a JW!!!! That's what makes me so mad!! This in no way was something I didn't have a right to know.
Lord only knows what she'll say to this.
soooo...i was in at the bank last week and had a great discussion with the teller there.
she has been in banking for over 20 years and despite using this bank for the past 3 years, this was the first time we had a chance to gab.
this was a bank in california by the way.
I worked in a bank from 2002-2006 as a teller.
"I thought perhaps, that the fact that most of the people doing their own banking don't read or write well enough to do it on their own, might tweak a few souls."
Hardly anyone would fill out their deposit slip/counter check. They either could not do it on their own or they were to lazy to do it. I always made the college students do it and offered to show them how.
i think my head is a little messed up from my recent relationship with a man who is a jw.
i attended a few meetings and bible studies with an older woman who i met at the first meeting.
i am not going to become a jw because i can't give up holidays and birthdays, but i do have a few questions.
Because in time you are no longer able to think. They tell you how to handle every situation without using your brain to come up with the right way to handle things.
You get casted away and loose your feeling of self worth (assuming you end up actually believing it all) if you make a simple mistake. No one ever helps you with your problems. They just disown you if you have them.
They discourage so many things that don't make any sense --- like using the internet, having wind chimes or dream catchers, saying "bless you" or "good luck", joining a civic club, doing community service, giving blood, taking blood transfusions, going to college, joining a sports team, eating lunch with a coworker, or even having a friend or spending time with a friend who's not a JW.
You loose having a relationship with God even though you are a religious person because you view God as a big mean angry guy. They take out Jesus from worship, and don't really encourage or pray for others during hard times. Their love is conditional and will end the minute you disagree with one doctrine. You must believe every single thing they teach without thought or question. -- Leave your brain at the door.
Their doctrine is not what the Bible teaches and is pure heracy. Just the point that you would be believing a lie is enough.
They are false prophets. They have predicted the end of the world and been wrong several times.
Their practices have even resulted in death. Their erronous teaching of no blood transfusions has had thousands die each year. They have let people be murdered for their lie in other countries (Malawi / WWII)
If you were to be raped, you could not report it to the police without threat of being disfellowshipped unless there was a witness to the crime. They allow pedofiles to be loose, unconvicted, and knocking on doors where children live.

these are the things i remember always looking forward to as a dub and when they happened it was great.. last day of convention/assemblyend of the meetingend of the ministrywhen an event was interrupted thus endingif i had a responsibility to escape the mind-numbing boredomif a visiting speaker failed to make it for the sunday meeting and it only included the watchtowerwhen the sunday watchtower was just question & answer cos of the c.o visit, pity he then wasted all that saved time.no ministry after sunday meeting cos of some reasonwhen i faked illness or even death to get out of meetings/ministry etc
I always looked forward to the clap at the end of the last day of the assembly.

you have to reject your families if they don't follow jesus(jehovah according to jws) so this proves they are right.
Its not hard to explain .. And it doesn't have to mean that JWs are right in what they are doing either.

When I left to follow Jesus, I had to leave behind my family. If I would have stayed in the borg, the family would have remained together. By leaving, I lost my life for the sake of Jesus .. and then I found "the real life". If I would have stayed, I would have lost my life. I hope I am making sense. I chose to love Jesus more than my father or mother. These scriptures always comfort me -- and are in no way hard for me to explain.
is it a requirement for both the groom and the bride to be bapitsed jws in order to get married at a kh?
if so, does anyone know if this was a requirement back in the mid- 1970's?.

Just for the record -- They can disallow you to get married in the KH if you are on reproof or if anyone in your wedding party is on reproof even if you are baptized.
