Would you do it for the sake of the kids?

i have a very close friend, who is still an active dub.

we have known each other since we were kids and we have been able to maintain a strong friendship - we are actually more like brothers than friends.. we have reached a truce - i don't try to talk him out of being a dub and he doesn't try to talk me out of being an apostate.. we have both worked hard to honor this rule.. my problem is, i am the "godfather" of his son.

meaning if something should happen to him and his wife, i would raise his son.. i have a very close relationship with the boy, he is 7 and smart as a whip.

You know how JWs can't do anything the borg doesn't approve first? I think going would show that you are free now to do whatever you want. It will show him that no matter what he does, you'll be there for him. Your love for him is not conditional on what religion he is or what trouble he might get himself into at a later age. If you don't go, he might hate that you have different beliefs. If you go, you'll show him that no matter what your beliefs are, they won't stop you from loving him.

One more thing: If he got disfellowshipped one day, he'll say, "Uncle loved me no matter what. Now those people are shunning me."

I remember them reading the letter but I hadn't heard about the show yet so I didn't know what they were talking about. It was convenient that the show aired when most JWs were at a meeting. I know I was.

i bet my mom would gladly send me one but i'm afraid that she would speculate that i wanted to go back or something and i can't deal with that.. you could even count it as a placement!

here i sit, doing my hubby's study again.

a little creative editing on the part of the revelation writers caught my eye.

It is true that the scripture it talking about something non-tangible. Storing up treasures on earth would be storing up gold/silver (things you can touch) and storing up treasures in heaven would be non-tangible (things you can't touch)

We aren't in heaven so now we can't be storing up treasures like silver and gold and putting them there. We can however work on our relationship with God and helping other people to come into a relationship with God -- and therefore storing up treasures so we will be rewarded when we get to heaven.

The heaven then is not symbolic -- as the above post says, the treasures are symbolic but not heaven.

she told me at that time to never call her because of my new "religious" lifestyle.

i'm a bit of a newbie here i suppose, but i've been fascinated by the photo threads that pop up now and then - notably leo's, purps and sparks.

so i thought i'd do my bit for posterity and bring you some pics from the uk that i've taken over the last few years, if that's all right with you that is!.

although i'm fully digital these days, my early work was film-based so, as a result of that training i tend to just use photoshop in the same way that i used to use my darkroom - ie.

How can you be faithful yet not gullible or misled?

i hear all the time how leaders justify why people should buy into and follow their guesses...and the whole defense is if you don't you have no faith.. what protects a "faithful" person from becoming prey to a self-exalted leader and their guesses?

or are the faithful meant to be prey or something?.

I want to believe because it makes me happy and because (you've heard this): If I believe and I'm wrong, I'll have the same fate as someone who didn't believe. If I don't believe and I'm wrong, I go to hades.

So, I also think of atheism like this: If I pull out something from my pocket, hold my hand closed around it, and tell you its a quarter, you have a choice to believe me or not. You can believe it's nothing, you can believe its a paperclip, or you can believe its a quarter like I said. Your best choice is to go with a quarter. The quarter to me is Christianity. The best possible solution to all the facts I know is Christianity.

So how do I go about practicing Christianity? I believe that putting my trust in God and letting him be the Lord of my life is the way. The rest is fun to study (end times eschatology/predestination ... etc.) and helps you to learn about God but not essential to my salvation. The other good part about reading the Bible is you learn what God says is best for you and you get to learn about God's will that way.
