Congrats to you both, and may you both have another 20 such years!
Who knows how the match will work out, eh?
my partner and i celebrate our 20th anniversary today!.
hmm...a successful relationship outside of the the troof...who would've thought it possible.... anyways - 20 years without a raised voice, a fight, a heated argument; 20 years of mutual respect, even when not in agreement, and getting along; 20 years of love and kindness, and mutual support.. who would've thought a jw and a mormon could both recover and prosper...!.
Congrats to you both, and may you both have another 20 such years!

since it is illegal for a corporation to have any social interests (a social corporation is an oxymoron), and since the entire purpose of a corporation is to make money for its shareholders, why do they need to be a coroporation to spread the "good news"?.
do the shareholders amass wealth?
are they allowed to sell their stock?.
The original incorporation, and subsequent incorporations of international branches of the WTS, is a legal matter.
The shareholders are limited to 500, and there is no stock, are no dividends...it's a voting privilege only.

After the Society’s directors and its officers were elected by the shareholders there represented, consideration was directed to six amendments that were proposed for the Charter of the Society, which was a Pennsylvania corporation incorporated sixty years earlier, in the year 1884. These would amend Articles 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10. The first amendment resolution that was adopted proposed the enlarging of the purposes of the Society so as to assume properly the great worldwide work that lay ahead. Also, this amendment put God’s name, Jehovah, into the Charter. Amendment Three did away with the original charter’s provision that fixed one’s membership in the Society on the basis of one’s money contributions to the Society; henceforth the membership was to be limited to not more than 500, all of whom were to be chosen on the basis of their active service to Jehovah. As the Watchtower issue of November 1, 1944, said in its report: "This amendment will have the effect of bringing the charter as near to Theocratic arrangement as the law of the land permits." All six amendment resolutions were adopted.
it's been a good day on the forum.
i've been trying to read more old stuff because i took a year off.
it's hard to keep up 'cos this place moves fast!.
It must be all the atheists.
This place is overrun with 'em.
Not if I can help it! First, I'll convert all atheists and theists to agnosticism, and then according to my carefully crafted subterfuge I'll get you all to join the Church of Scientology!...
including dinah.
.
apparently she is now dating a rapper named common,,,,,,guess she is feeling the holy spirit:).

Well now, dinah, if you're wanting for excitement you could always jump in on that "atheist" thread! roflmao
dansk's christmas tree thread got me to thinking .. in this house we do not celebrate since my wife is still a die hard dub.
i have no complaints about that, it was our joint choice for decades and i an the one that changed .but as witnesses we were always given the negative view of the holiday time :-.
"people feel that they just have to do it although they do not really want to".
bikerchic and I enjoy it!...although she does most of the work.
But we don't feel compelled, either. Last year, we didn't do any decorating to speak of, because we just didn't feel like it. This year we're all decked out.
I like the twinkly little lights.
i'm sure it will be around but how big i don't know.. as the older ones die off or become inactive there doesn't seem to be as many stepping up to take there place as one elder said to me recently " iv'e just come from a meeting at bethal they talked a lot about how much of this generation we have lost it seems we have skipped a generation ".. after alot of growth in the 80's and early 90's things seemed to have tailed off in the western world .. in 1992 i helped build the kh i used to go to it was built to hold 250 it was about 3/4 full and growing now it has about 100 publishers they had 9 reg pioneers then now maybe 1 or 2 the enthusiasm seems to have faded at best.. i went to the talk with my wife the other week (she still active) alot asleep or staring into space when i left after the talk the was alot of people milling around and talking in the lobby.. what will happen in the future i don't know it's co's vist this week everyone will get reved up but it seems to faid just as quick.. your thoughts??

It's called the secularization of religion: As the original "true believing" core dies, or disintegrates, the vestiges of the social group carry on with a momentum of their own. Witness the Mormons and Seventh-Day Adventists.
Eric Hoffer's The True Believer is an excellent read on this subject...and I've got to find out who still has the copy I loaned them.
greetings from the other side of the street,.
i just loved having you guys proselytizing on the other side of the street when we were tracting.
i am a recovering mormon with a believing spouse / family.
I would like to be able to show my wife the disturbing, unconscionable actions by leaders. Scrubbing and sanitizing history. Changing / evolving doctrines. Changing scripture. False prophecies.
I don't want to read anything into your history, but do you have examples or resources or stories demonstrating these things?
How many terabytes of storage capacity do you have on your computer? LOL
just in case any of you are interested!.
i'm told (and i can't confirm this, perhaps someone else can?
) that this tour company is run by an ex-bethelite (sorta like stoops mfg.)..

please bear with me on this.
as usual, which you will come to observe, i like to crunch numbers.how many of people are "employed" ahem, in this volunteer priveledge?
If you mean Bethelites, I think it's at about 13,000 worldwide (since the last downsizing).
*** w95 12/1 p. 30 "Where Does the Money Come From?" ***
One area where there has been unprecedented growth is in the nations in Eastern Europe that were subject to the former Soviet Union. How joyful was the progressive news that the work had opened up in these places! Now missionaries are being sent to many of these countries. New branches have been established in some lands, swelling the number of volunteer ministers who staff the worldwide Bethel family to over 15,000. Of course, branch buildings to house them have to be bought or constructed. Your contributions help to fill the need.

MORE ENCOURAGING THEOCRATIC DEVELOPMENTS
Meeting the Needs for the Field: To help meet the field needs of Jehovah’s army of witnesses, the Society increased the number of Bethel family members by 9.9 percent, for a total of 7,233 worldwide.

In order to keep up with the worldwide demand for literature the Bethel families have grown to 1,376 members in number.
Edit to add: Up through 2001 is the latest info to which I have access.
