On a more serious note: There a numerous social constructs where women really do hold the power, both socially and financially.
the memory of this just popped back into my mind.. i was at a 3 day congress, and the ending prayer was said by this really old brother.
he was one of the survivors of wo ii concentration camps were he was put for being a jw.. anyway, the poor man started his prayer with thanking jah, and then he recalled every piece and play of the three day congress.
i bet the man had written his prayer on paper and rehersed it each day adding a new 15 minutes to it ... he even mentioned a part where a witness lady replayed an incident on the street - she gave witness to by-standers - and one of the people she talked to had a stuffed dog.
The longest prayer I ever suffered was at a Pasadena assembly..I think it was in the 60s.
Knorr closed it out with a prayer that went on for like, well, forever (15 minutes, at least). As I looked left and right, everybody was shifting their feet, and the kids were getting cranky.
Boy, did we all hit the exits as soon as the Amen was said. LOL

2007 has been a hard year for bikerchic and me (not in an interpersonal way, but circumstantial).

let's assume for the moment that god decides what is good and what is bad.
does he 'a' choose what is good because it is obviously good or 'b' is it good simply because he says so?
if 'a' then what is good is independant of god and he has no choice but to accept it as good.. if 'b' then the definition of what is good is arbitrary - god could decide that child abuse was good and it would be because he said so.. clearly this is ridiculous because we all recognise child abuse to be a bad thing and that is why god would never label it as good.

This is true! I was exactly that way when I first started participating on JWD over 5 years ago...ask anybody that knows me, and they will confirm that I was virtually an ex-JW still thinking like a JW! LOL
However, if they had jumped into my face, I would have turned away, and lost (yet again) the opportunity to learn the things I have. I'm just making an observation about what constituted (for me, and I daresay most others) an inviting atmosphere for self-examination.
The results of that research will not necessarily lead us all to the same conclusions.
