i had such a shock today, its almost bizarre, my son was involved in an accident at work.
he's an ironwoker, which means he works the high steel on skyscrapers and such.
today he was working and tied his safety harness off to the cable as usual, and went to work.. lots of times they have to lean out and rely on that harness to keep them secure while they reach out to do whatever the hell it is they do (best mom's don't always know all), and today his dumbass bosses didn't have the cable attached on one end.
Gretchen, I'm glad your son is relatively OK. Over the years I've worked with many ironworkers, and on one job an ironworker was knocked off the side of the building @ 10 stories up. He was tied off, but he had jury-rigged his yo-yo so that he had more freedom of movement. Unfortunately, what that meant is that when he went over the side, the yo-yo played out without any braking, and when the line was maxed (about 25 feet), his lanyard snapped and he went down. Mike was a real nice guy, and left behind his wife and two young children.
My best to your son. It's good that he has his bros with him...ironworkers are one of the tightest bunch of friends I've ever known, and I know your son will have a lot of support, both financial and emotional.

I haven't read every post above, but in reflecting the sentiments of many of you:
The general guidelines for open forum posting apply equally to private messages using the JWD p/m. Therefore, if someone is violating those guidelines, notify a mod and, indeed, there are ways of at least eliminating that particular account, as the circumstances warrant.
Unfortunately, it is most often the case that these nut-jobs just set up another account, and continue on with their venom. The only resort is to notify a mod accordingly, at each occurence.
However, as tempting as it is to exact a degree of revenge against such vicious Internet savages, it would be counter-productive to post up any private messages or e-mails, both because it gives them the attention they don't deserve, and also because posting such private communications without the specific permission of the sender (as vile as that sender might be) is also a breach of open forum protocol.
All that being said, I fully share the anger and frustration that you all have expressed, and can't tell you how many times I've had to push the "delete" button on my angry response posts...though I certainly haven't been perfect at that effort of self-control, and have more than a few times had to have my own posts edited.

first of all, let me assure you that i am in my right mind and am not at all depressed.
in fact i feel a deep, quiet, inner happiness.. this decision has been running around my brain for a couple of weeks now.. my decision is one that honors how good and how beautiful life is.. i am deeply appreciative for life even though i do not know it's exact source.. my decision is to live a full, productive, and happy life.. my decision is to never be a burden to my family.. my decision is to terminate my life if at any time i do become a burden.. i hope to live to a "ripe old age", and to leave this life kicking and screaming for more.. but if at any time my life is marred by an accident or disease that is crippling, physically or mentally and that requires the sacrifice of my family to sustain my life, i will terminate my life.. i will make space on the planet for another person.. i will give my family the gift of freedom and of remembering me as a vital and healthy person.. i will not plague my family with having to force me to take a bath, or having to clean my excrement.
i will not burden my loved ones with having to rearrange their lives to sustain my misery.. i will leave a letter in which i will tell how much my family means to me and how i want them to live their lives to the full, just as i did.. i will tell them to move on and remember me fondly and be grateful they did not have to see my physical pain or mental anguish.. i will assure them that i died happy and fulfilled, that i have no regrets.. i hope never to have to face my decision.

The door-to-door ministry is a most effective way to praise Jehovah. If you are not yet taking part, why not set it as a goal? If you are taking part, are there further goals that you may set for yourself? For example, rather than saying essentially the same thing at each door, look for ways to improve, asking your parents and other experienced ones for pointers. Learn how to use the Bible more, to make effective return visits, and to start a Bible study. (1 Timothy 4:15) The more you praise Jehovah in such ways, the more effective you will become, and the more you will enjoy your ministry.
