i stopped going to kh when i was in my early 20's.
i'm now in my mid 40's.
i've done many of the things for which a person should be df'd over the many years since but i don't know whether i am df'd.
When I was at Bethel (~1970), on the janitorial crew, one of my jobs was to buff the floors in the Service Department.
In the course of my midnight labors there, I noticed a file cabinet there which had a label "Disfellowshipped." It was an alphabetical card file, with everyone's name, location, and reason for df'ing listed. I sneaked a look or two.
i don't think so.
i believe that if they decide to have it, there's nothing legallyspeaking, that you can do to thwart it.. what's your opinion??

Based on my effort (making the same threat of legal action), you're right. My circumstances were somewhat different, and, in all honesty, my threat was hollow even as I said it...I was just sort of hoping that it would work. It didn't.
I think what turned the tables in the case I mentioned was that the JW threatened to sue that elder personally.

on a recent thread, i made a bit of fun about outlaw having to eat penguin morning, noon, and night.. as is the way of things, his almost unbelievably super-nasty p/m back to me made me do some research, and lo and behold, i found a plethora of penguin recipes suitable to all but the most sensitive of palates:.

there are many new ones on this board who may not have seen this.
my old friend alan feurerbacher who has done an unbelievable amount of scholarly research on many subjects must have spent about two or three thousand years researching virtually every aspect of the biblical flood story, and am providing the link to this subject (together with links to other excellent work by him).
it's long and detailed and definitely not for those who get bored with more than four sentences of information and sound bites.
I remember like it was yesterday when Alan first presented me with his researches on the Flood, and other things (back in the early 90s). It was like 500 pages of stuff! I took it from him with shaking hands, and read every page...and was shaking even more after the read. It was yet one more pile of bricks added to my already sagging shelf of belief in Biblical accounts as being of Divine authority...and I mean that in a good way, as in budding realization.
There is a lot to read, but it's worth it.

Make your decision, and stick with it.
For reasons that I can't openly post, and therefore must ask that you take my word on it (but, still, just in my own experience): The harder you stand your ground, it's entirely possible that the family will bend...but only if they know for a fact that you are not going to bend first. As long as they suspect that you might just even might bend first, they will most probably stand to the bastions.
The ambience in the WTS has been changing for some time now, and there is a strong undercurrent of 'violating' Society rules, especially where family is involved.

I know personally of one case where the JW in question was approached by an elder (who I also have known for many years) and said that there would need to be a JC. The JW came straight out and said "I haven't been associated for years, and I don't recognize your authority to come after me after all this time. But if you do, I warn you that my attorney will institute charges against you personally, against the congregation, and against the Society, and we will pursue the litigation vigorously."
And that was the end of that.
