WTS advocates resisting rape to the point of death?
by M.J. inover the years the wts has vacillated on its stance regarding the distinction between rape and mutual consent to fornication.. in years past, the wts has stated that "the primary distinction between rape and consent was whether a woman screamed for help.
" (awake!, 4/22/73, p. 17).. the wts's latest published stance, however, states that while the act of screaming establishes innocence of the victim, screaming in itself is not the sole criteria for determining the victim's innocence before god.
if one is incapable of screaming, it does not matter, since jehovah can read a person's motives:.

What exactly classifies someone as "inactive"? Just wondering because as I have said before, my husband was disfellowshipped in 2000 (before we met), but most of the people that were raised in the JW religion (his age group) are inactive. I know of five or six for sure. And that's just one congregation in this area. There are about four Kingdom Halls in my area alone.

Yes she absolutely could sue. And she would absolutely win her case in a court of law.

If you were God, would you want to be worshipped?
by rebel8 inif i was the god of the bible, i think my priorities would be to set the ground rules of life and manage the planet, ensuring life is good.
i cannot envision any reason to desire worship.
appreciation, yes.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't really recall God ever demanding to be worshipped. It is something that we do because he is deserving of praise and glory. He does require that if we are to honor him we should not worship false gods, idols. Maybe I'm wrong, because I'm not great at memorizing scripture.

Ahh,
But do they not realize that any person worth their salt who is searching, is searching for truth, for consistency, for continuity. In order to impress me, you have to be upstanding, and accepting a gift in observance of a holiday that you consider pagan is just wrong. And selfish. I do not believe for one second that JWs accept gifts on Christmas to avoid offending someone. The reason I say that is because most JWs that I have come in contact with are extremely intelligent individuals. I cannot understand any intelligent sane person thinking that respectfully refusing a gift is offensive. I would assume most of the time that the gift-giver is aware that the person they are giving to is a JW. So why would they be offended?
Example: My in laws are JWs. This past Christmas I specifically asked my mother-in-law, "If I buy you something for Christmas, would you be able to accept, or is accepting Christmas gifts against your beliefs?" I asked because I wanted to avoid putting her, or me in a situation where she would have to refuse my gift. She responded, "Oh, well, we don't give gifts, but if you buy me something I won't refuse it."
I gave her an opportunity (before I shoved a pretty package in her face) to say that she couldn't accept. She had no reason at all to think that I would be offended if she had said no. Yet, she said she would accept the gift. Seems to me I had more reason to be afraid of offending her, than she did of offending me.

So JWs accept gifts because they don't want to be RUDE? Excuse me, but I think it's rude to give the rest of the world's population so little credit. What person in their right mind would be offended if a JW simply said, "I really appreciate the fact that you thought enough of me to purchase a gift, but since I am one of JWs and do not celebrate Christmas, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to accept." My feelings sure wouldn't be hurt. In fact, I would probably have a much deeper respect for a person who stands by their beliefs no matter who they may possibly remotely offend rather than employ a double standard to appease a person who is obviously not "in the truth". Fear of rudeness sure doesn't come into play when JWs come banging on my door at 8a.m. SATURDAY (off day) morning (no offense to any JWs, just making a point).
Also, I would like to know who does this research on Christmas, and birthdays. Who discovered that they had pagan roots? What about Thanksgiving? Is is a pagan holiday as well? Unless my history books are dead wrong Thanksgiving is NOT a pagan holiday. Do JWs celebrate that? Mothers Day? Father's day? Easter?
Has anyone researched baby showers? Wedding showers? Just about every single custom, tradition, event in American culture could possibly have a hint of paganism involved, right? Did you know that originally (I think) brides wore white not only as a sign of virginity, but also because it was thought that the color white had the power to ward off evil? Do JWs wear white wedding gowns? Certainly JWs do not agree that a color has the power to ward off evil? Wouldn't that be a bit pagan? My point is that you would have to leave EARTH to avoid any hint of paganism.

My husband was disfellowshipped before we were married, and has been to the Kingdom Hall a few times since. Once I went with him. NO ONE SPOKE TO HIM. The very next day my husband came to the Dr's office where I work to take me to lunch. While he was waiting in the lobby a woman we had just seen the day before at the Kingdom Hall came up to him and threw her arms around him and had a thirty minute conversation with him. Mind you, not 24 hours earlier she had walked past him as if he was not even standing there.
I don't understand why she behaved that way. I mean, if you're not allowed to speak to a disfellowshipped person, then how can you be allowed to speak to them at another location? Isn't that hypocritical?

My husband was disfellowshipped before we were married. Of course, he was brought up in the "one true religion" (the term itself is an oxymoron if you ask me), but as he got older, he sort of drifted away. He had his first Christmas with me last year, and I just sort of wondered why his parents would not celebrate Christmas (come to Christmas dinner), but would accept gifts from non JW friends.
I think my husband is feeling pressure from his parents to return to "the truth" as they call it, but he tells me he just has too many unanswered questions about the religion that he once blindly and wholeheartedly accepted.
They have attempted several Bible studies with me, but I made it pretty clear that I have no intention of converting to a religion that grants group of men who publish little pamphlets so much power. Too many failed prophecies. Clearly the WTS is not the true channel between God and man (if you even need such a channel).
Seems to me the JWs operate purely by instilling fear of damnation in the hearts and minds of the members. Not a religion I feel God would condone.

Haven't there been a great deal of false prophecies made by the WTS? Do the JWs not notice this, or do they just not care?

I'm new here and have lots of questions
by jaada inhello, i am new to this board, i am not a jehovahs witness however i studied with them for years, i went out into service a couple of times, but i havent done anything in 4 years.
i am so confused.
i always have been scared of the last days thing, but i could never accept the fact that while i was in the meetings, my husband and parents were all at home and the witnesses would tell me that unless they changed and started coming to the meetings that they would be killed!

I'm new here as well, and I, too have many questions for JWs.
Why do JWs claim to not celebrate Christmas or birthdays, but will accept gifts?
Why don't JWs celebrate Christmas and/or birthdays? Is there a reason?
Haven't there been a great deal of false prophecies by the WTS? Why don't these fasle prophecies seem to alarm or repel any of JWs? Do they not notice, or not care?
